Essen Spiel is the world's largest public fair for board games and happens annually in Essen, Germany. I am very lucky to have attended for the second time this year!

I doubt I'd ever get to go to SPIEL but if I did my first stop (if I didn't get visit with them sooner than) would have to be the Thundergryph Games booth. They are a publisher that has meant more to me over the last few years than most.

Finally! I was on first day there and keep an eye spotting you but never saw you. Next year you'll have to make a official meeting!
Oh - next year the Spiel will be started on October 3rd, which is a national holiday in germany, so prepare that it will get even more crowded!
it's crazy that it's such a big event that we can go all those days without running into people. So many people were there who I just never saw!

Nice to walk with you over the Messe. You look "Frisch wie der Frühling" (loosely translated: full of energy) when leaving the event. I would propably look pretty tired at the end. Have fun.
Belated thanks for this video! It was quite refreshing and indeed interesting to see you pick about 98% different games than the mostly unison stuff german 'tubers were talking about - on the very same expo!
there were SO many games there - I was talking to someone else who attended and we saw completely different games. It's wild how big the show is!

I got them from Amazon - they're KF94 masks and the shape of them makes them so much more comfortable for my face

I used to own 5min mystery, it just didn’t hit the table as much as the others so was sold at airecon just last year, but I do recommend at least playing it once

Next year they will only use promo artworks that feature people with very serious faces who are concentrating on their next move ;) Also more fingers.
Thank you for sharing your experience at Essen! I hope to one day take my family to Germany to see some of the beautiful sights. We just got new passports recently and are going to Europe soon.
On a sidenote: I'm glad you noticed that the event promo art was AI generated. I understand trying to save money but it's kind of insulting to a community that include some of the best artists in any medium. Get some art you can afford or ask if you could use some of the art from some of the vendors present. I'm glad Spiel has a successful event and hope next year goes well too. I just hope they do better next time.
Same! The art was disappointing to say the least. I believe it was created by an outside company they hired to do their app/promotions but... they still had to approve it and it was just bad art all around.

Enjoy your remote tour of game cons as I always do. Was not aware that there is still a mask mandate even after the pandemic. Was this a temporary reversal there in Germany or has it never been relaxed?
no mandate, just a personal choice to mask in a crowded event space. You'll notice most other people in the video aren't masked.
Other people? I always just watch you! Your friend was also face covered off the train so I misjudged the situation. These cons look exciting.

it depends on the con. They weren't for this one, but in a large crowd like this I still feel like wearing one. It helps with general Con Crud, as well!
But how will I know I'm at a gaming con if a mask is preventing me from smelling the other people? I'd just feel like I'm missing out.

@@PaulaDeming there's this funny trick with German words where if there are two vowels next to each other they make the sound of the second letter. So in Mainz the emphasis is on the 'i'. When I lived in Wiesbaden the 'e' was the emphasis. That's not even getting into w sounding like v.

yes, this was from this past October, 2023. I am still masking in very crowded situations for my own health and comfort. It's my choice and I haven't been getting sick at conventions so I'm pretty happy with it.

Nah, I'll keep wearing one at big, crowded events like this. It helps me not get con crud and doesn't hurt anyone!

they do have tours! but you can't take pictures or video inside so I have no proof of the fact that we went on one
