    some nice lookin stickers in that pile. I sticker them well too but an old fella down in New Hampshire who had a sugar shack Never sovered wood he was trying to dry. He didn't mind the thin water gettin in the wood. Rain after rain it slowly helped draw the sap out. As long as you have it piled as you do, it'll dry out before any mold sets in.
    I figure either way it dries out. That's a nice lookin pile of wood man :)

    Yes sir! Good stuff right there. I can remember back in the day we had a lot stacked and drying to rebuild my daddies house, so anyway, the yellow jackets 🐝 built a huge nest up in the middle of one stack. That was a mess!!
    But it worked out though.

    If you have any problems with mildew on green lumber, use a garden sprayer with TSP (located in the paint section of any hardware store) mixed with water. Wet the boards and leave the TSP on. It will kill mildew and help prevent graying, which is also caused by mildew for as long as it is on the boards. Also, copper sulfate works great if you don't mind blue green stained boards (same as pressure treatment). Copper Sulfate is in the plumbing section with the drain cleaner, it is called root stop.
    I use the TSP on fancy hardwood cut in the hot humid time of the year and the TSP and Copper Sulfate on dry lumber that I am going to use outside, as a mold inhibiter.
    Hope this helps.

    Howdy Mr. Duke- looks like you got some good stuff to work with. In my opinion, aired dried pine is better than kiln- dried. I’ve air dried pine and I’d much rather work with it. With the way the lumber prices have jumped a feller needs to put back some lumber and get it to drying. Take care Brother Duke. God bless y’all

    • @RuffCut
      @RuffCut  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes Sir Bro. Paul...these boards came from storm damaged trees, you may remember...got a good deal at the sawmill...there are two more stacks for the loft and trim...the Lord has been good to me...yeah the air dried lumber hasn't been cooked! :) Doesn't split out good lumber

    • @RuffCut
      @RuffCut  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sounds good Larry...if I had it to do over again I would use tie wire and 2x2s vertical down the sides to keep the boards tight. Thanks and hope you do good with your lumber.

    Got our first small mill. Stacking our wood under cover but do you know how to prevent bug damage in straight air dry lumber? Thanks for your help! It's up off the ground, stickered every 16", and covered by a hoop style covering.

    • @RuffCut
      @RuffCut  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      thats a good question...I'm not sure what bugs your talking about...you might want to use the lumber after it is seasoned if you think you could have problems...the only real problem I have had is mildew

  • @CraigArndt
    @CraigArndt 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Excellent, that wood stayed very straight. Air dried slow, you got some good wood with little waste. Is that southern yellow pine?

    • @RuffCut
      @RuffCut  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      hey Craig...yeah its yellow pine...Loblolly...I'm happy with the sawmill too...dimensions are accurate for the most part

      no its from a pine that was damaged in a storm
