Sometimes Cambridge Sucks

- Sometimes life at Cambridge University can be awful, but most TH-cam content about it is all sunshine and rainbows. Let me tell you, it's often stressful, tiring, and lots of other things that I discuss in this video. This isn't me telling you not to go - I still think it's an incredible opportunity and I'm so glad that I went - but it's not perfect and, if you're making the decision to apply, you deserve to know the good and the bad. This is a video about the bad.
There are a lot of things that I mention in this video that might seem a bit confusing. Here are some explanations:
My degree was 3 years long and split into 2 parts
..................Part 1: my first and second years
..................Part 2: my third year
Varsity is the name of Cambridge's main student newspaper
Impostor Syndrome is a complex where you feel like you don't belong somewhere, like you've cheated your way in, because you're not good enough to actually be there legitimately
A supervision (also called a 'supo') is an hour of 1-1 or small group teaching at Cambridge

This is a useful perspective to help inform decisions about applying. It would be useful to get a view on which colleges are better at welfare and support as this seems important given the pressure people are put under at Cambridge.

Gosh you're so right- as someone who really isn't anywhere near going to university (it's 3 years in the future at any rate), I feel a bit stupid watching videos on Oxbridge and romanticising a university I probably won't ever go to anyway- I think that 'realistic Oxbridge' should become a trend (it would certainly be useful), just to make it easier on those, such as myself, who see Oxbridge as THE ultimate pinnacle of success. Hi Hatty, thank you so much for making this video. I'm going to Cambridge in October, and although I was already familiar with the downsides of Cam, this video was still really insightful. I'm definitely going to take your advice regarding routines and time management. Having some downtime to relax and be with friends always fuels my motivation to work and improves my productivity, so I'm hoping to make a set routine when I get to university to remind myself that taking time to relax is key. It may be slightly unrealistic of me to expect to stick to a routine all the time, but hopefully it'll help to some degree :)

As a dedicated dad to a wonderful daughter I’ve really enjoyed your videos. I think I’m going to take her to Exeter, Bath (where I went) or wherever she wants for open days. The pressure at Oxbridge just doesn’t look worth it. Unless she decides it is worth it then whoop!
