  • Brakes installed the easy way... Harness set up and a little rip around the yard. Not super happy with the Comet clone but we'll see how it works out. Waiting on parts for the two seater; I can't wait to get bak to work on it. Let me know in the comments if this would be a good enough fit for a young one or if there should be a dedicated "kid" size chassis. Thank you as always.

    I got interested in building some sort of "cart" for my motorcycle engine. Started looking around and saw others building crosskarts. And now that I've watched your videos, you make it look REALLY easy to build these things. I've never bent or welded a piece of metal in my life, but I'm inspired to give it a try after watching you.

    • @KJRaycing
      @KJRaycing  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Heck yeah! Are you going to go mild or wild with your build? After you do a couple of bends, do a couple of notches and weld a couple of fish mouths, you’ll get the hang of it and enjoy building something cool in your garage. I hope you will post progress in the facebook group. We all like seeing the builds. Thank you for the comment!

      She is so good. She wasn’t giving it 100% at all, maybe 40% throttle tops. Shows a lot of responsibility for such a young lady and makes me want to give her anything she wants 🦾😁

      I know right? I may do the whole axle to keep dirt out and add “just a little” strength when I do the rear suspension. Thanks, man.

    I'm telling you buddy you would be much happier and your clutch will last a lot longer if you will install it the correct way. The drive clutch literally goes on backwards with this setup then the drive sprocket that came with the clutch goes between The driven clutch and the back plate. Not only does it make it to where the belt stays in alignment throughout it's range but it also takes a lot less stress off of the end of the Jack shaft making it a lot stronger and of course more durable. I absolutely love mine and I've owned five or six of them on different builds and never had a problem, a kevlar belt is another big improvement.

    • @KJRaycing
      @KJRaycing  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I looked into this after you commented on the last video. The output shaft from the engine is not long enough to support this. The sprocket is 2” wide and the clutch is already spaced 1”. It’s the same situation no matter how it is configured. The only other option is to run the sprocket under the engine cylinder on the opposite side of the jackshaft. I really appreciate the info though, thank you.

    I gotta say I love the shape of this thing. Gotta buy these plans and try to build this over the summer. I have my welder and also have a tl1000s motor that would really rip in this thing. 100+ lb torque would make this a beast.

    • @KJRaycing
      @KJRaycing  ปีที่แล้ว

      Well I cannot take credit for the shape, it’s pretty common in European crosskarts. But the design and reusing atv components is 100% original. I was really close to using a TL in the two seater for the same reason, but went with a busa instead. Going to be a torque monster and maybe even do wheelies with a TL… I can’t wait to see your build 🦾

    Well you raised her right! Great job on the budget build! Just need a booster seat for your daughter to see over the wheel. Or use a car seat manual mechanism for lifting the seat and sliding back and forward?
    Oh and finish those welds, I'm sure the axle supports are still only tacked in.

    • @KJRaycing
      @KJRaycing  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      She’s so fun. And she says she can see alright. The brackets for the seat come out in just a couple minutes and cost waaaay less than what you’re suggesting 😉. And yes, it’s mostly tacked together because the rear is getting suspension, but when something is designed well it should only need tacked.

  • @davessparetime83
    @davessparetime83 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The PVC sleeve still won't stop the axle from creeping. What you should do instead is tack the steel collar onto the axle. If you did that on both sides the axle will stay centered.

    • @KJRaycing
      @KJRaycing  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes it will. The axle is staying centered just fine because it has 6 collars keeping it centered. This was just to keep the hubs from pushing in on the outer collars as I said in the video. Welding on the axle kind of defeats the purpose of everything I put on there. Thank you for the input though, I always appreciate the comments.

    Nice build! Interested in seeing the direct comparison to IRS, once you get there!
    I'm just looking at getting into building a small go kart with the kids, and thought it would be fun to try to design a smaller IRS setup.. I can't find anything smaller than the miata CV shafts that are commonly used for these cross buggies.. I feel like I will be sacrificing a lot of power to the unnecessarily heavy drive components.
    Have you seen any smaller components used? Am I wasting my time not sticking with a solid axle for my first build? ( Very likely haha )

    • @KJRaycing
      @KJRaycing  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve thought about this too. An easy low power solution could be to use steering u-joints. I’m not sure how much abuse they would take and it would be a decent amount of R and D funds but I’m sure it’s there. I made the seat brackets so my little girl could drive one of the bigger ones and had the thought that it is super safe and not tippy at all; and she can grow into it with just new seat brackets. Stick around for the rear suspension setup, I’m hoping it will be an easy and inexpensive solution to an irs setup. And thank you for the comment! 👍🦾

  • @trevorward85043
    @trevorward85043 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I like that she was thinking about safety when she flipped down that windscreen. Great series. Hoping I can adapt the design to "cut and weld" as the price for a bender (that I have found) is a bit steep.

    • @KJRaycing
      @KJRaycing  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      She is an absolute blast! We have a bluetooth comm system from when my wife and I did motorcycle rides (before kids), so we ride around and talk fun, craziness, and also how to have fun and be safe. I’ve messed around with doing a no-bend version and looking at the cad it would rely way too much on welds being perfect (in my humble opinion) and just doesn’t seem strong enough. And it would be hell to get everything straight. Thank you for the comment 👍

      Not yet. This is the first in the evolution. The least expensive way to get into crosskarts. This same kart will get suspension and other upgrades in the next build phase, coming soon. And it’s really not as bad as I thought it would be without rear suspension. A decent racing seat would actually make it pretty nice. But it’s getting rear suspension anyway.
