Why don't you just make a list of the 2,000 most frequently used words, and then group them alphabetically or by category? And then move on to the less frequently used ones? That way you'll have the 2,000 most frequently used words in 20 days
@@MathiasCzaja good idea, also using it sometimes. depending on learning goals i would recommend to rather let chatgpt write some dialogues to create assimil-like material since stories are often written in tenses which are not applied in everyday's communication.
These are words from your language island sentences. So why not learn them in the context of the sentences themselves? Language island sentences are, by their very nature, short, interesting and relevant to the learner, which makes them memorable. No need to bother with this painful and time-consuming process of inventing weird mnemonics for isolated words, which should be a last resort when all else fails.

then ask gpt to write you a story with the words from same category and make a shadowing exercise for each sentence from that story.

I do that first with my Language Islands vocab. Then with longer vocabulary lists.
