Food forest nursery, there’s a link in the description and it saves you 10% Thanks for watching. Dwarf trees are great. They are easier to get to stay small. I’ve had a few when I first started planting trees. They were shorter lived. When I was a kid my folks had a little orchard with all dwarf trees in a very small space, very fun as a kid being able to reach all the fruit. The selection and variety is much smaller though.
I’m still within my first year of living on 1/4 of an acre, I initially had big plans, got discouraged, but now, after your video, I am more determined and hopeful than ever! Thank you for being such good stewards with what you’ve been blessed with, I pray I can do the same ❤
I think we all get discouraged now and then! As long as we keep those big plans in our mind and do a little here and there, that progress will fuel us. I get discouraged after a long winter when the gardens and orchard are bleak. Then… I see daffodils blooming and I start to feel good do my garden spring cleaning! How happy and refreshing it makes me feel.
Am a new subscriber, but have been gardening since 10 years old so 50 years, even did a Horticulture and Gardening Apprenticeship in the 1980's, have been in New Zealand garden for 32 years, so nice to hear someone who is on a similar path to myself.
I think I was born in the garden! I love it! I worked at a nursery part time and traded ALL my paycheck for plants! It is nice to hear from others that are so similar in the path we travel and enjoy! Welcome! 🥰
I always get so much out of your videos. I really enjoy your teaching style and you consistently share knowledge that I've never heard anywhere else. Thank you!
This was so valuable! Thank you! I'm starting a permaculture focused orchard in the high desert this coming year, and all these tips will help. And God bless you too!
I’m getting so excited for spring! Our last frost date isn’t til May 20, but got my seed trays started in the greenhouse. All of your tips help me in planning another section in the garden! Blessings
Great info! We just bought an acreage and were needing some ideas of what all we might do with the place. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your videos.
Hi Ali, I just was recommended to your channel by my cousin who lives in Alabama. I have a small orchard that I’ve been growing on a 1 acre property in Florida. I do a lot of alchemy gardening myself. My trees are only about five years old, but I have about 40 growing now. You have a beautiful place! Can’t wait to catch up on your content.
Not anymore. Houses moved in all around us and the gophers aren’t here anymore. They can be a real problem for sure. Grateful we don’t have them now. Some of my first fruit trees were destroyed from the little buggers back in the day.
Thank you for your encouragement. My question is: overall, your property is 1/2 acre, or is it divided into more plots or sections? How much overall do you farm, including your home, fruit trees, vegetables, animals, etc.?
We have a total of 1/2 acre with our home, garden, orchard, animals, barn and our business. It’s tight, but it works out very well. Thanks for watching.
Right! And environment, pest pressure (borers especially) are a huge role. I did have a few peach trees over 30 years old, but they didn’t produce well or taste good anymore. Most other fruit trees will live much longer.
Hi, Allie! Thanks for all the great information. I’ve been following the Backyard Orchard Culture pruning for small trees and that has worked well for me. However, one of my peach trees is leaning and I’m wondering what I should do. It seems to be otherwise healthy and fruited for the first time last year. I planted it in 2021. Thanks for any advice you might have.
We had a young apricot tree that always wanted to lean. I staked it (30 years ago) and when I took the stake off it started to lean again. Now as an old tree it just leans, but it’s fine and produces well. If yours is leaning and it’s young you could try to give it support to pull it in the direction you need it to go. How old is your tree? how long has it been in the ground?
Ali, I’m just getting started with fruit trees. We are on 1 1/3 acre; however, I will be using a portion of our property that is about 70 x 200. Our garage is also in this space. It’s 18 x 20. My vegetable garden is 25 x 25 and I will also have chickens. The garden area that I would like to have my orchard is in the south west corner of the property. We just bought our first fruit tree. A honey crisp apple. I’m afraid it’s full size. I was hoping for semi dwarf. My challenge is that we have multiple 60’ and taller trees around the proposed orchard area. I think I need help but not sure who to contact. 🥴
Thank you. It seems like such a huge dream. I’m pretty much alone with very little help. I won’t happen overnight. I pray I can accomplish my dream within the next year 🙏🤞
I got it 30+ years ago. A neighbors brother brought them back from California. I have seen them at Tractor Supply in all my different heights. Ours is 8’ and is perfect for out orchard.
I did think about it, but the main scaffolding branches were so sun scalded and damage. anything graftable was pretty high and I thought it might get better best to start fresh. We did do another peach tree several years ago and it worked pretty good and it was much younger.
I have 2 apple trees about 5 years. Problem is they get attached by plum curculio (I believe). I can only find harsh chemicals to treat. I want something organic. What do you recommend?
Kaolin Clay is organic and can help control Plum Curculio. You will need to do 2-3 spayings during the season to keep the fruit coated. We are now see this problem in our area.
Do you have any thoughts of dwarf fruit trees? Where did you get your semi dwarves from?

I'm glad I found this video
i wish I went to Ali's school instead of public school
The shade that those trees give is so nice in the heat of the summer 👍
So true!

I’m excited for spring too! The weather this week has been beautiful and now the forecast show snow for Sunday 😲.
Always love to see.

Years trees should be producing very well now then!
Glad you are here! AND that your cousin recommended me! Thank you both! 🥰

Another great video my friend! Well done!❤👏🏻
Thank you! Cheers!
Thanks for sharing I started plantings Meyers lemon trees guava and fig in the container when I buy my property easy to take it with me
Very cool! Do you have any issues with digging critters like gophers?
Not anymore. Houses moved in all around us and the gophers aren’t here anymore. They can be a real problem for sure. Grateful we don’t have them now. Some of my first fruit trees were destroyed from the little buggers back in the day.
Very informative. Loved this video and love your garden.
Thanks so much!
How do you water the lawn in the orchard area? Do you use a sprinkler system?
I'm so impressed. I live to see you give a garden/yard tour one day.
I flood irrigate it. Deeper watering that way.

Where are you located do you ship your fruits to Illinois
Amazing orchard! Packed with great info, too. 18 years for peach? That seems so little of a lifespan!
Right! And environment, pest pressure (borers especially) are a huge role. I did have a few peach trees over 30 years old, but they didn’t produce well or taste good anymore.
Most other fruit trees will live much longer.
@@Alisorganics Good to know! Admittedly, I hadn't given life span much thought when I purchased my trees 😅 I figured they would last for generations.

It’s been in the ground since 2021. It was a whip when I got it. I can try staking it and see if that helps. Thank for the advice!

How did you know where to start?
Where did u get your ladder?
I got it 30+ years ago. A neighbors brother brought them back from California. I have seen them at Tractor Supply in all my different heights. Ours is 8’ and is perfect for out orchard.
I'm surprised you didn't graft new varieties to the tree you took out. Would the age make a difference?
I did think about it, but the main scaffolding branches were so sun scalded and damage. anything graftable was pretty high and I thought it might get better best to start fresh. We did do another peach tree several years ago and it worked pretty good and it was much younger.
Really nice video. Helpful to see what you are doing. How often do you spray? When is your first spray of spring?
Glad you like the video, go watch our “when to spray fruit trees” video and it should help with tree spaying times.
Thanks

You have trees planted on 1/2 acre bc you have other acrage for your other produce
No, it’s all on the 1/2 acre. Garden in the front, orchard in the middle, animals in the back. There are other videos that show the whole layout 😊
I live on 726sqft lol I'm not planting shit😂
