🚪. I use the “one in, one out” method. I see so many videos of people with hundreds of personal care items like lotion, perfume, body wash etc. I don’t buy anything until it is completely out. For example, I have one bottle of lotion and I will use it until there’s one drop left before I head out and buy another. It really helps minimize clutter and saves a bunch of money. Most people don’t realize that there’s expiration dates in personal care items as well. Love your videos 😍

Shopping therapy was my way to cope with a lot of trauma in my life. I was hoarding so much, my mental health was not good. I was swimming in "stuff" everywhere in my tiny home. I started to declutter while learning about minimalism and simple living. 4 years later and I am so much more happy and feel "free" from the stress that I was holding onto with all those items. Now my therapy is to declutter 💕 I have also managed to pay down so much debt towards my mortgage since becoming more minimalist.

My favorite minimalist living tip is your are never done decluttering. And we are very minimal at this point, but I can always find one or two things every few weeks that no longer serve us and can be sold or donated. It doesn't always need to be a huge purge or massive decluttering session! Eventually, it can just be one or two items you find every few weeks, but keeping on top of it makes all the difference.

🚪my mom died 6 weeks ago and 80% of her house is now in mine. We received a good offer on her house and it sold much quicker than expected so her stuff came to my brother and my house to be gone through “latter”. I am overwhelmed and found your channel on You-Tube. I have been playing some of your videos while going through boxes and boxes. Thank You for the inspiration. I was also drawn to your channel because I too lived in Europe for seven years while my husband was in the Air Force. We did 4 years in West Germany and 3 years in England. I miss so much of the European way of doings from shopping local to the house styles especially stairwell living. I would move back again in a heartbeat if given the opportunity. Thanks again for your channel.

One thing that has worked for me for getting the clutter out of my home is to reward myself once it’s out. After I make a drop off at a donation center, I reward myself by grabbing my favorite drink while I’m out. It’s inexpensive, and keeps me motivated to stay on top of getting the clutter out of my house!

That's how I live my life, too. Too much structure bothers me. My frame of mind is my greatest asset. The day I realized that I don't "have to" do, for instance, do the dishes right away, or go for milk and bread (I'll do without for today), I found a flexible reality that didn't destroy anyone's life, including my own. I declutter when I accept the challenge in my mind to make more space, to have a cleaner environment, to get rid of stuff that doesn't lift my spirits. I know when it's time to get rid of something, and it happens in a split second. BAM! into the donation box or trash.

Working through my decluttering process after becoming empty-nesters. We realize that we don't really need such a large house (although it is just a normal size split level from decades ago with 4 bedrooms) but our area is in the middle of a housing shortage crisis with outrageous prices. My spouse is not quite as on-board with the minimalism but has really given me freedom in most areas to declutter. We are working on becoming debt free through this journey and the peace that decluttering has given me has all been worth it. Here's to more success in the future.

My minimalist tip is to always allot a ‘space’ for what I want to keep. I designate a specific surface area (a box, a bag, a binder...) for what I want to keep and I CANNOT GO OVERBOARD (I say this to myself 50 times a day) 🙈

By the time i got to the actual CLEANING, i was tired and cranky and sick of it! Now i spend an hour a week, and maybe another hour deepcleaning, if i feel like it. 😉

I find that my journey to minimalism over the past 4 years has included weekly/daily declutter. Rather than a huge overwhelming declutter once a month. I instead am constantly in that mindset so if I notice something throughout my day that no longer serves its purpose or I no longer enjoy then I add it to the donations bin. Once that's full (usually fills quickly as it's an empty diaper box) then I donate it. 💕 I also post it on local pay it forward/pay nothing Facebook groups to help other mamas for their family ❤️

    • @AtoZenLife
      @AtoZenLife  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Working on my new office space, I painted, papered and refinished the floor. I had to empty my bookshelf and desk to move them, so sorted out the books, oiled the desk now going through the contents 😮, so many things i can and have disposed of! The next room is the WC...painting and refinishing the floor.😊

One of my favourite decluttering tips is from Dana K White, to put things where you would expect to find them.
It has really cut out the indecision and resultant procrastination and is keeping my surfaces clear!
Instead of having a lot of transient items that never get put away.
I find I just instinctively put things away, even things that may have previously not had a definitive 'home' Doing this has helped me see the groups of items that work together and it inspires me to reduce these down to a more comfortable amount.
Thank you for your videos, I'm really enjoying your channel 🚪🌟

I'm by nature a minimalist, not in eastetic, but in lifestyle. I love decluttering and do it on a regular basis (every 2 to 5 months) in all those places, my room (bc I live with family still), my phone, my computer, all digital things also get a good declutter from time to time. It saves so much space and I don't have my phone crying for new space the whole time. Also keeps my devices more good for more years!

It made me realise how I didn’t miss anything we hadn’t unpacked & I actually loved the space & that it was so easy to clean. That was 6 years ago & I still love it. 🚪 it is a process. I have been on this journey for a couple of years now, peeling away the layers. My family is on board now, but it took time, patience, and understanding. It is a lovely way to live. We are not extreme by any means, but our house is more functional, easier to clean and much nicer.

I have a minimalist lifestyle and one dump room for lapses in my minimalist aesthetic😊 I do not own a wardrobe ( for myself - family yes however) . I don’t have a traditional bed- it takes too much space in our small apartment and I only sleep five hours max at a time- so I have a sofa bed with a roll out mat. No curtains to wake up with the natural light cycle ( or night lights:)) My one weakness is books and spares of essentials in case we get snowed in. Lightbulbs, loo roll, soaps. I would sympathise with hoarding / collecting good socks- so many are such poor quality now they tear easily and our feet hold us up all day- they deserve a treat: nice socks🧦🧦🧦

I love the aesthetic of your videos. These are perfect tips for anyone who wants to focus on their minimalist lifestyle. Thank you. 🚪
My favourite tip is to take a photo of an area you are getting rid of items, then take another photo after (like some people do selfies during weight loss). It is such a rewarding and joyful experience to see where you were and be grateful and honour where you are now. It truly is a journey, so take each moment as a mini lesson you can apply to so many other areas of our life. (Give away things -> give away complements and give up criticism)

I have been living the minimalist lifestyle for 9 years. My reason for beginning was because I was welcoming my first child and we needed more room and less clutter. Now my reason is to have more time to be outside and to take twice-a-week field trips with my kids. We are an on-purpose (pre-pandemic) homeschooling family (ages 8 and 3). We live near DC and we go hiking in Shenandoah and visit DC frequently. 🚪

My goal is to get out of survival mode and get back to the fun stuff... kids, job, housekeeping, a lot on the plate and a constant struggle and that is not how I want to spend my precious time.

🚪🚪🚪🚪 my biggest struggle is this nagging feeling, that I need to order/buy certain things, because we "need" them, like the next storage box or another pack of 10 socks for my sons. coming from a relatively low income family I struggle to say no to material "improvements", since now I do earn my own and enough money to feed those desires. But I´ll get there eventually... thank you for your realistic approach on minimalism. It actually does help me a lot to re-focus me and my goals. Hugs from Berlin/Germany p.s. I can relate to your china, we use the china we inherited from my husbands grant-aunt nearly 10 years ago on a daily basis since 6 years now. It is a huge 12 persons set (dinner, bowls, coffee set, extra tea set ... everything) of the "english scenery" chinea, which she did collect for over 30 years and which she had never used herself. After she had passed away, we had found the set, neatly stacked away in her cupboards and we decided, that we could honor and remember her best, if we put this lovely china to use finally.

Great tips! One of mine would be not to wait for others to join into the journey you are trying to pursue. Everyone will eventually enjoy the benefits and will eventually join on their own and learn from you. After one yr of decluttering (and we are not done) my partner often says, the house picks itself up, my daughter asked if we could go through her toys she no longer wants on her own, i do ask the kids to find 1-3 items in their rooms they think should go (clothes, books, toys) and so far are learning well. The best one is my partner’s comment this week, how come it seems like nothing fits well in this cupboard anymore, few things needs to go and started sorting.

I grew up broke..like holes in the floor of a single wide trailer and potted meat sandwich broke. When I graduated college and got a good job. I bought and bought and bought while thinking “this is what I’ve been waiting for…stuff.” At 38 yrs old, I’ve never been more empty. I’ve bought and owned more guns and guitars I can count on my fingers and toes. I can say honestly, to maintain all this stuff is a financial burden. Working to maintain steals my peace because there is a dark cloud over my head that says “you see the stuff doing nothing in the corner. You have to maintain that.” Quite frankly since getting rid of all but one guitar and gun and useless furniture in my home, I’ve been happier. It’s hard work but my family will not remember me for my possessions but my time. Stuff takes away my time and I work too hard to not enjoy experiences
