My one little nugget of advice to the newer visitor is to not regularly pay for things by using up your smaller paper denominations and 5 and 10 baht coins. The most useful denominations are the 20 baht note and the 10 and 5 baht coins ,which will get you home and buy simple stuff from street vendors, visit to hong nam etc. You try paying for a baht bus with a larger 500 or 1000 baht note because you have no change and I have heard of the drivers just driving off. Also with motorbike taxi, they will always amazingly have no change if you are waving a note in there face. You can always get change from a 7/11, which will never be far away, just by buying a 7 baht bottle of water before you get onboard
@@buckeyeman_9833 hey no worries just little things you pick up over the years that are easy to pass on. The other one for the new visitor would be totally disregard zebra crossings as a safe place to cross as they would be in the West. There is absolutely no guarantee that a car or motorbike will stop as you are crossing. In fact I have had vehicles pass me behind and in front as I have been crossing many times
My tip would be not to bother standing at the road crossings waiting for the traffic to stop. They were only put there to use up some left over white paint.
I lived in Thailand....have Thai brother & Sister.... It's a beautiful country... culturally on another level to the west....show them respect and you will get the same in return you miss behave expect to be dealt with....Thailand is a safe country in comparison to the West ..... Have fun visit the temples...taste the amazing food.....and have a conversation with a bar girl they all have interesting stories to tell....I do miss Thailand
An important tip trev- do not take your passport out with you when you go out on the town, go to a kodak photo shop and get a laminated copy of passport (size apprx same as credit card cost 40baht) accepted by police etc
You can get really good exchange rates at Suvarnabhumi Airport. But you have to go down to the railway station below the airport. There you will get same or sometimes even better exchange rates than in Pattaya.
Pattaya hits hard. Missed connecting flight, took cab from bangkok, checked in got a shower ,went to one of those pharmacies Trevor talked about, and immediately 2 girls at same time. So you always and gotta and better be ready (for anything) it's way fun and make sure you got enough money..
Best advice you gave on this vid was about getting really drunk. Yes we all do it on holiday, but good advice, take out what you can afford to lose. I once got really drunk and fell asleep about 1 minutes walk from my guest house on the walking St. A Thai person woke me up and I was completely robbed. Everything, my phone the wallet, cards the lot. I had leave stuff at the guest house and the manager gave me 300B to get back to Bangkok, i went back the next week a gave them 500b for my stuff back. A good lesson learnt.
I agree with you Pattaya is a great place, but like all great places it attracts the best and the worst of all things. Remember use your common sense and you will enjoy yourself.
The thing to do with taxis is to go Upstairs in the airport and find one that is just dropping somebody Off, then negotiate the price to your destination. You can get some pretty good deals because they would have to either go back empty, or get in line
Always keep your eyes onn your bar bill so they don't add a few drinks onto it. Don't leave your drink. Alone then come back to it. Someone might drug you. Never use drugs in Thailand Always ask taxis /motorbike taxis how much before getting on . If you don't they will charge you double or more.
Great tips Trevor. Some I have heard before & some were new but always useful. Stay positive through all this. Thailand will recover when things return to normal. Any one who thinks otherwise you is fooling themselves.
I am only a recent viewer of your videos, but I can certainly say that it’s great to have the benefit of your obviously many years of experience. I am really enjoying them, a little bit envious of the beautiful warm weather you are having. I am slowly working my way through your videos, perhaps not necessarily in the right order, nevertheless, they are great. Thank you.
Would slightly disagree on some points. As other people have stated Superrich in the airport is the best. Can't comment on airport taxis going to Pattaya but I get them to kanchanaburi and they are always cheaper than pre-booking. You say about only taking out cash but I would say always take a bank card, nothing worse than having a good time and running out of money. Keep up the good work 👍.

Awesome video. Good advice. My main advice, especially for the new guys coming to Pattaya, Drink lots of water / Pace yourself. Pattaya can be a lot like Las Vegas, once you land its exciting and go go go, but with the heat comes dehydration. Thats my 2 cents. 8 )
In the basement level at the airport, next to the cityline train station entrance, they have money exchange boots offering the same rate as TT in Pattaya.
Then after you have been to super rich to exchange your money go back up one level to book your 129 bus to pattaya and while you are waiting for the bus next to the waiting area is a very cheap airport staff food hall which anyone can use !!! Sorted !!! Another hidden gem in the airport 👍👍

19:40 Hey Buzz. I totally agree with your; "Be careful getting Mullered" (Pissed/Hammered/Wasted, etc.....) advice!! Definitely don't "Dress Up", in fact "Dress Down!!" No Watch. No rings. No Jewelry. Just a T-shirt and Shorts is all you need to get into almost any bar or club in Pattaya!! I actually take this advice a little further myself and take no cell phone and I always wear a plain no brand t-shirt with (definitely) no sign of my country of origin on it!!! Just leave them all guessing where your from!! I've found that your country of origin can work against you if its 'perceived' as a 'wealthy' country by the locals - so don't advertise it to them on your shirt!! Cheers Mate 👍🍺
Good quality, simple advice, particularly on the money front. To that I add, when you fold your money in your pocket, do so with twenty baht notes on the outside to help disguise how many larger denomination notes you have. Also, what you say about the sun is so true. Drink plenty of water, wear a hat or baseball cap and use plenty of suntan lotion. Make one mistake and get burnt and you'll spend days regretting it. One final tip which people can ignore or follow as they choose, when you are half way through the night start thinking of finding a last bar fairly close to where you are staying. That way your last stumble to bed isn't very far. Good luck.
@@damienlee54 You're welcome. Things change so fast in Pattaya that I won't bother recommending a bar other than to say I intend to explore Soi Buakhao a bit when next it's possible to travel without it feeling like a visit to the dentist!
I visited Pattaya early last year at the very start of the Covid, although i did my research before hand some of these tips would have been helpful for a first time visitor like myself. I am now heavily considering coming back for several months (or longer) when things return to normal. i am definitely going go through your videos for more helpful tips.
Something I would avoid is also telling it's your first visit to Thailand. I noticed they tend to ask you this every time in bars our massages and telling you just arrived, well that's a red carpet to make the scam happen
Brilliant video Trevor, I felt homesick when you passed the turning to the Levana hotel 😥 stayed there March 2020, very quiet but of a walk out but I enjoyed the walk, my mate didn't 😅. Fantastic tips from you, taxi numbers to book in advance 👍. I exchanged £50 into Thai baht in the UK before I came, glad I did it.
When I go to Pattaya, I do change £100 at the airport on arrival, mainly for the taxi and tips on first day etc. Reference accommodation, the Asia Pattaya is great value and just about 10 mins into city centre on a baht bus. Each tip is very good, it’s common sense really but alas, there are a lot of pitfalls travelling anywhere but like he says, Pattaya is an incredible place, there are some really nice genuine Thai people and once you get to know them, they will remember you year after year. There’s a beach bar at Asia Pattaya that is family run, Beer, Nit, Nut & Dah, they are a great family and the bar is great for delicious food and drinks. I love Pattaya and thoroughly recommend it, even more so if you are a golfer, some excellent deals on stunning courses.
I've heard that some of the most important rules to know are 1,never show the bottom of your feet to Thai people 2,never ever touch their heads ( why would you touch anyones head ) 3 stop for the King when you see others stop to at certain times of the day 4, don't be too big of a tight a**e when paying for a meal or something that ain't too expensive ie what's $2.50 for a huge club sandwich and a cold beer. Can someone please elaborate on such rumours, thanks in advance
I'm from sunny Queensland, but nearly every video I see regarding Thailand the sunshine is so bright and straight overhead it seems like its lunchtime all day long. Close to equator I'm assuming One of the many things I'd love to come to Thailand and enjoy. I certainly hope that the international borders open again soon. Even a quick two weeks considering ,what a 7,8 hr flight from Brisbane makes for the perfect mini break. I could save up for visits to many different cities and towns. Especially dirt bike tours up north,Chiang mai etc. I look forward to watching all your vids kind Sir. They are very clear and realistic, without crappy music,as to hear the environment also, makes me feel like I'm there. Thankyou
About changing money, it wont kill you to change a hundred at the airport in Thailand, it will still be far better than using the exchange in uk Heathrow.
in Pattaya Klang between Big C extra and Foodland is PLC languages with computer and many language courses: Thai, English and German. Also train to teach English TEFL.
Hi great vlogg , but about money at airport, there exchanges on level 2 are really bad, but if you go down to the very bottom level we’re the train goes from, there are green superich exchange and there exchange rates are as good as TT
The one word of advice I got from the owner of the hotel I first stayed at, he said, "what ever you do, do NOT go on the beach at night, especially if you're drunk".
I used Bell Travel service last time I arrived. It's a bus or a minibus and not a taxi, but they will drop you at your accommodation. I don't remember the price now but it was very cheap. A good alternative to taxi.
Good morning Trevor great informative points for the newbie visitors. I like to share a experience i a sad to say happened to me in Pattaya now as I told you before been visiting a very long time been traveling since 1978 the world so I should know better, About 12 years ago I was out on a night out by myself I love live music bars I had visit a few in Soi 7 and 8 then I decided to go to Walking Street to Visit some more up there and dance and have fun. I felt more drunk than I normally would I am not a big drinker ( unusual for an Irishman ) hehe but I think my drink might have been spiked I jumped on the a motor bike taxi to head home to hotel. Now I forgot completely that I was wearing the Large Thai gold neck chain I usually would never wear on a night out that my wife had given me ( big mistake ) going down a small darkish Soi another bike came up real fast with two guys one reached over and grab the chain it did not break at first I fell off the bike he still had his hand putting the chain I tried to get up but they both drag me till the chain link broke I was left bleeding, my bike taxi driver who had been talking on the phone on the trip back to the hotel piss off I sure he was in on it. I was not a very happy boy next day I should reported the incident to the police but at the time I thought the police would just think another drunk Farang but I could have used the incident reported to make a claim from my insurance. Second big mistake normally I am very careful, I am sure I was a marked man from earlier on in the night with the gold chain especially Thai gold I was very silly man. I return home to Australia a couple of days later to be greeted by my lovely Thai wife who was shocked when she seen my face and ams scratches nothing to serious but looked bad. She asked what happen I told her I was mugged (robbed) she said were was I said Pattaya she said i told you to be careful and then I had to tell her the gift she given me many years earlier was stolen she said does not matter only money once I was alright ( lovely wife ) very lucky guy to have her. I still felt so stupid for forgetting to take the chain off and put it in the safe, I like you Trevor always try a help new guys out to be careful about this and that if they want to take it and here I am after all these years going to Thailand making a big mistake. Anyway a lesson learnt I am still alive to tell the story guys just be careful no matter were you are. Most Thais are beautiful people but like everywhere in the world there are some bad ones as well. That’s my story take care Irish Paul

More a piece of advise is to pay your bin every hour or 2. (those little bits of paper can mount up to big $$ very fast when buying lady drinks. Also at Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) the Super Rich money exchange near the rail link enterance has been a good rate on my past visits
Definitely up for a bar crawl when we can return. After many trips to Thailand and Pattaya I am pleased to say I have never had a bad experience. I think as anywhere in the world if you behave respectfully you will be treated with respect.
Definately should do more videos like this mate. Despite being to Pattaya 3 times, there's a couple of things I learnt. Would be super helpful doing more videos like this for when the masses return, hopefully early 2022. Subscribed, cheers mate
Good rates at the airport if you go downstairs to the sky train...super rich is a good one. Not many people know this , it was 29 bhat to the dollar upstairs and 32 downstairs ...same as pattaya.
I keep a small amount in a certain pocket, every time I buy something that's where my hand goes, when I am in the toilet I will replace what I need for the next drink etc, if some one goes for that pocket they do not get much, I keep my money in 3 different places when out, the 3rd is my emergency money, same with bank cards, 1 in my hotel 1 with me.
Your advice on the sun came a bit late for me... I was sitting out on my balcony, not even in the direct sun (on an overcast day) and got fried to an absolute crisp. Hopefully this helps someone avoid similar.
A little late to the comments on this vid and it may have already been mentioned but one thing I do with the drinks bin is take out every drink ticket and look at it immediately after it is placed in. I let them see me doing it too. Unfortunately “padding” does occur in some bars and I have found that they just won’t risk it if they think you are keeping tabs on it. Also…as someone else mentioned, check bin regularly.

Great Advice. When I retire I will be coming back to Thailand. Last time I was there, I spent way to much on hotels. Spent 2 weeks at the Royal Cliff Beach Hotels. Last 7 days I was there I spent it at the Royal Wing Suite. Was about 3k U.S. The hotel was phenomenal and staff were excellent.

Good advice and let me inform you all I lived in Pattaya for 12 years with my then Thai wife and use to live in cheap hotels moving on regular with no commitment I met a couple of guys that would hit on newbie single guys just moving to hopefully retire in Thailand. On every ocatoin they would hit on guys and totally drain them of there life savings don't trust any person in Thailand as the Country is full of scammer not only Thai people foreigners can become a huge problem parting you with your cash.
Your last comment is the most prudent one. Unfortunately, the most I've had issues with were Brits. They can be very convincing but are preying on you from the moment they see you.
Yes, a fair number of farang deadbeats who will say and do almost anything to fund their long term stays. They give the more easy going genuine retirees who are the majority a bad name.
I always try and keep 5k baht plus from the Holiday before , as my Taxi money from the airport down to Pattaya , sometimes stop and buy some grub as well on the way down . Never use the airport exchange its well low .
Good point about the taxis from the airport....apart from costing more they also haven't a clue where they're going in Pattaya. I learnt the hard way for a couple of years and now prebook my transfers and if you get a taxi instead of it being an 1 hr and 30 min trip it will take close to 2 hrs because they constantly stop to ask the motorbike taxis where the hotel is, the other mob I use take me straight from the airport to my hotel door non stop.
In all of my travels to many ports while in the Navy, I always used the buddy system. Don't go alone. One of you stays half way sober, And just be courteous. Treat the locals with kindness and your stay will be wonderful.
The baht buses are absolutely brilliant in Pattaya, this model, in my opinion, should be rolled out in all tourist destinations in Thailand. Thanks for all the useful tips!
Yes, they are one of the best things in Pattaya. So inexpensive and convenient. The 10 Baht fare has been the same for the past twenty years and probably longer. i almost always tip the driver.
I probably missed very obvious glaring signs but it was very hard for me to figure out how they work, where their stops are, what their route is and how they know where I intend to get off when I ring.
People need to be aware, that lady drinks can be nearly twice the price of a regular drink. Seen lots of people with sticker shock when they get the check bin !!

Last point was spot on...trust no one. Lesson learned based on own experience while I was in Navy and participated in Cobra Gold military exercises near Pattaya. Thanx Peter. These are the (simple) tips that make a vaca A vaca to enjoy! Cheers mate.
They were only put there to use up some left over white paint.
lol, love this mate, made me chuckle
I lived in Thailand....have Thai brother & Sister.... It's a beautiful country... culturally on another level to the west....show them respect and you will get the same in return you miss behave expect to be dealt with....Thailand is a safe country in comparison to the West ..... Have fun visit the temples...taste the amazing food.....and have a conversation with a bar girl they all have interesting stories to tell....I do miss Thailand
Brilliant reply and thanks for sharing, well said!
you "do" miss it ? you don't just "miss it " ?
Best rule I was taught before my first trip.... Leave your heart at the airport before you leave your country!! Pattaya is Disneyland for adults.
indeed
Haha. Yeah 4 sure.
Reminds me of the old biblical Sodom and Gomorrah.
Enjoy it while it lasts...😏
I've done all these mistakes with honor 😂😂🤣🤣, God bless your heart.
Fair play mate, live and learn my man
Before I go back to the uk I always take 2500 baht with me ready for my return next time
Yeah wise move mate
Great idea. Somehow I always end up giving all my baht to the lady accompanying me to the airport.
What does that mean? Are you trying to say always walk away before you lose your money at the casino
An important tip trev- do not take your passport out with you when you go out on the town, go to a kodak photo shop and get a laminated copy of passport (size apprx same as credit card cost 40baht) accepted by police etc
Yeah good advice mate

You can get really good exchange rates at Suvarnabhumi Airport. But you have to go down to the railway station below the airport. There you will get same or sometimes even better exchange rates than in Pattaya.
Great shout mate cheers
Love your videos. Truly appreciate your friendly and endearing demeanor. Cheers!!!

Pattaya hits hard. Missed connecting flight, took cab from bangkok, checked in got a shower ,went to one of those pharmacies Trevor talked about, and immediately 2 girls at same time. So you always and gotta and better be ready (for anything) it's way fun and make sure you got enough money..
haha good man
Best advice you gave on this vid was about getting really drunk.
Mate am sorry to read this, so not a nice thing to happen
I agree with you Pattaya is a great place, but like all great places it attracts the best and the worst of all things. Remember use your common sense and you will enjoy yourself.
good shout
The thing to do with taxis is to go
Upstairs in the airport and find one that is just dropping somebody
Off, then negotiate the price to your destination. You can get some pretty good deals because they would have to either go back empty, or get in line
Great tip mate
You should get a very good rate, as the last thing they want to do is deadhead.
Always keep your eyes onn your bar bill so they don't add a few drinks onto it.
Don't leave your drink. Alone then come back to it. Someone might drug you.
Never use drugs in Thailand
Always ask taxis /motorbike taxis how much before getting on . If you don't they will charge you double or more.
Great comment thanks for sharing mate, much appreciated
Great tips Trevor. Some I have heard before & some were new but always useful. Stay positive through all this. Thailand will recover when things return to normal. Any one who thinks otherwise you is fooling themselves.
Thanks mate, you too

I am slowly working my way through your videos, perhaps not necessarily in the right order, nevertheless, they are great. Thank you.

Your energy and honesty are great.

Not being able to say “no” is the biggest mistake you can make 🤣😂🤣😂
That is true lol
Would slightly disagree on some points. As other people have stated Superrich in the airport is the best. Can't comment on airport taxis going to Pattaya but I get them to kanchanaburi and they are always cheaper than pre-booking. You say about only taking out cash but I would say always take a bank card, nothing worse than having a good time and running out of money. Keep up the good work 👍.
Fair enough mate and thanks for sharing
Mistake # 1 don't stand with your back to on coming traffic. Some of them cars looked like they was close to running you down Trev. Glad you made it safe to finish your work. Great video Great information as I've come to expect from you. Thank You very much !❤️👍

Mistakes are usually the result lack of knowledge, thanks for educating everyone
No worries mate
Never had any problems but I always wear proper shoes at night in case I have to run.
lol, love that
In the basement level at the airport, next to the cityline train station entrance, they have money exchange boots offering the same rate as TT in Pattaya.
Thanks mate had no idea
Yes and can check out the rates before you arrive at super rich train station level airport.
Then after you have been to super rich to exchange your money go back up one level to book your 129 bus to pattaya and while you are waiting for the bus next to the waiting area is a very cheap airport staff food hall which anyone can use !!! Sorted !!! Another hidden gem in the airport 👍👍
@@dazamanlad I ussualy pre-book the bus to Pattaya from Bell Travel Service. After a short change into a minivan at their Pattaya office they bring their passengers to the hotel front door. Cost was 309 baht (last trip end of 2019)
These money exchange booth are off the Airport property, so they give you a better rate of exchange...
Great comment thanks for sharing mate, much appreciated
This sounds like amazing advice, thanks!
Nice. Thanx for the incite. Didn't think of that one. Props to you Squiddly Deadly!
Love you and your vlog man.
I appreciate that!
Good luck.
Excellent advice about the final bar bit there. Much appreciated
@@damienlee54 You're welcome. Things change so fast in Pattaya that I won't bother recommending a bar other than to say I intend to explore Soi Buakhao a bit when next it's possible to travel without it feeling like a visit to the dentist!
Great shout that mate, thanks for sharing
I visited Pattaya early last year at the very start of the Covid, although i did my research before hand some of these tips would have been helpful for a first time visitor like myself.
I am now heavily considering coming back for several months (or longer) when things return to normal.
i am definitely going go through your videos for more helpful tips.
Great to hear!
Something I would avoid is also telling it's your first visit to Thailand. I noticed they tend to ask you this every time in bars our massages and telling you just arrived, well that's a red carpet to make the scam happen
haha yeah, although they soon work out a newbie lol
Brilliant video Trevor, I felt homesick when you passed the turning to the Levana hotel 😥 stayed there March 2020, very quiet but of a walk out but I enjoyed the walk, my mate didn't 😅. Fantastic tips from you, taxi numbers to book in advance 👍. I exchanged £50 into Thai baht in the UK before I came, glad I did it.
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks mate
I’ve made plenty of mistakes in Pattaya, I regret not one of them, oh I can’t wait to get back
Fair play mate
Thanks for sharing mate
Wow into and things ppl need to know beforehand coming to parttaya or phuket.great video content mate..by the way I'm new here to your channel..
Welcome aboard!
My only add is RESPECT for rhe local people and their culture can't tell you how many times I have seen tourists be idiots
That is very true
some folks make all farangs look bad i always do my best to respect thai culture
I have been fortunate to travel and work in different countries never had a problem anywhere.
Respect works

One of the many things I'd love to come to Thailand and enjoy.
I certainly hope that the international borders open again soon.

About changing money, it wont kill you to change a hundred at the airport in Thailand, it will still be far better than using the exchange in uk Heathrow.

The one word of advice I got from the owner of the hotel I first stayed at, he said, "what ever you do, do NOT go on the beach at night, especially if you're drunk".
Sound advice, too many undesirable's out at that time lurking about
I used Bell Travel service last time I arrived. It's a bus or a minibus and not a taxi, but they will drop you at your accommodation. I don't remember the price now but it was very cheap. A good alternative to taxi.

Love your videos. A topic for a video would be maybe the top 10 things to do in the city outside of the night life
Agreed mate great suggestion and once things restart I will be out there for sure
Good morning Trevor great informative points for the newbie visitors. I like to share a experience i a sad to say happened to me in Pattaya now as I told you before been visiting a very long time been traveling since 1978 the world so I should know better,
About 12 years ago I was out on a night out by myself I love live music bars I had visit a few in Soi 7 and 8 then I decided to go to Walking Street to Visit some more up there and dance and have fun.
Paul ..so sorry to read your story mate ,but you have a Thai wife ,and she didn't warn you on this before hand 🤦♂️Mate ..even if i was a lottery winner i'd never wear expensive ...Anything 🤦♂️sorry just saying 😏

Once rented a motorcycle and rode around in shorts. The wind kept me from knowing my legs were getting burned to hell. NUMBER ONE TIP WHEN YOU GO TO THAILAND ENJOY BUT DON'T FALL IN LOVE!!
A better holiday tip is simply don’t hire a bike - use baht buses, grab taxis or simply walk and in Bangkok use the excellent BTS and MRT.
Ouch, bet that was a funny looking suntan lol
Very good advice, I have done few of these mistakes
Glad it was helpful!

Brilliant Video! Thank you for sharing 🙂
Glad you enjoyed it!

Mate it catches so many people out
A little late to the comments on this vid and it may have already been mentioned but one thing I do with the drinks bin is take out every drink ticket and look at it immediately after it is placed in. I let them see me doing it too. Unfortunately “padding” does occur in some bars and I have found that they just won’t risk it if they think you are keeping tabs on it. Also…as someone else mentioned, check bin regularly.
100% sound advice on the bin mate

Good point about the taxis from the airport....apart from costing more they also haven't a clue where they're going in Pattaya. I learnt the hard way for a couple of years and now prebook my transfers and if you get a taxi instead of it being an 1 hr and 30 min trip it will take close to 2 hrs because they constantly stop to ask the motorbike taxis where the hotel is, the other mob I use take me straight from the airport to my hotel door non stop.

The baht buses are absolutely brilliant in Pattaya, this model, in my opinion, should be rolled out in all tourist destinations in Thailand. Thanks for all the useful tips!
