I love how she made her monologue about appreciating teachers. She didn't try to end it on a big punchline but a message that everyone agrees with "Pay teachers more"
I'm a retired teacher, mom to two teachers. One teaches in private school, the other in public school. One has a great salary and bennies, the other has another job to support their full time teaching job. One is male, one is female. Both love their teaching positions. One teaches art, the other history. One owns a house, the other rents. Both feel stress. There's some stats for you to consider.
I think it's ridiculous my friend makes $95k to teach GYM to elementary schoolers. If teachers make 💩 money, It's likely a reflection of the area they work in. And, they KNOW they're not making 💩 when they go to school.
Quinta is deadass one the most inspirational hosts SNL has had this year. Feels like a genuine success story of a normal person putting in the work and finally getting the recognition she earned.
Wow! That was so gratifying to this retired 30-year public educator. Thank you, Quinta! And from the SNL stage, no less. I’ve watched, from inception, both SNL and Abbott Elementary.
Come so far? She had a video selfie with Obama. I mean, I've seen people who've come far from where they were, but to have a video selfie with a former Pres... Let me rephrase that. With Barak Obama, where he knows your name. That's next level.
She is adorable… and the show is so right on! It deals with the real problems teachers have and the funny parts too! It is a hit with teachers including myself!💕💕
*WOW! Has any host ever included an ASK for fair teacher pay within the monologue in the history of SNL? I'm in LOVE!!! Way to be QUINTA!!! BARACK To The FUTURE!!!*
Better than The Office. Similar mockumentary format, but it's funny instead of cringeworthy. As a teacher, I find it very relatable and mostly realistic.
I haven’t watched a monologue before. I think maybe once. But I knew I couldn’t skip Quinta’s. I just knew it was gonna worthwhile. And now I’m crying. For so many reasons. I’ve been talking my niblings (nephews and nieces) through some of the issues and questions with school and their changing bodies and identities and how other kids use that to hurt them and I wish all our schools had teachers like Abbott. Every teacher there cares so much and has a great relationship with their kids. We need teachers to be as well respected as healthcare workers, PAID, and always appreciated. When I was in high school in the 90’s, my guidance counselor found out I was identifying as bisexual so she called me to her office and gave me ten tickets to the Seattle Gay Men’s choir. She did a lot to make sure I was getting along okay. She was the only adult I talked to about it and she made it so much more okay for me. Years later, I ran into her at a funeral for a fellow classmate and I made sure to tell her how much her being my guidance counselor helped me.
I resigned from my 7 year teaching career this past December. This was a career that had such an intense heaviness and toll that I had to think of my physical and mental well-being and knew that it was time to let it go. I appreciate her appreciation, thank you for seeing what I hoped I was for my kids, a good teacher.
Thank you for standing up for teachers!!! I have to admit it is not only about the pay - to me, it is more about how teaching is the only profession where the more experience you have, the less influence you have in the decisions being made... It is so very insulting.

Too busy to watch every popular show on the air, so this is my first time checking out this young lady, but she did that monologue like a pro and the jokes were excellently delivered.
I work in a school, I'm apart of the school support staff, and trust me, if teachers are grossly underpaid, imagine the support staff! I'm grateful that Quinta mentioned the importance of giving teachers what they're worth! ❤️
I really like it when SNL hosts do a sincere monologue. There was Austin Butler talking about his mom being an inspiration, Pedro Pascal tearing up when he praised his family's bravery when they moved to America, and now Quinta Brunson sticking up for fair teachers' pay. I wish hosts would be genuine more often.
I love how she’s so funny and it’s without even trying. Her monologue always came back to her mom and teaching. I love this woman like I know her personally. I pray for all the success, love and peace to continue coming her way.
OMG - Quinta has come so far since the days of Buzzfeed. The Abbot show is actually quite thoughtful. And her skits on SNL are pretty funny. She's not saying anything we don't already know though - pay teachers more, and give them amazing supplies. I can't tell you how many times teachers ask for classroom supplies in our buy nothing group - that's no ok. No one else has to do that.
