The best video I seen is from your fellow TH-camr. I use a dip net for my herring or a jig if i have too. I got 25 lingcod videos and 14 Coho salmon videos for season 2022. Take a look my favorite for lingcod is ( Monster Lingcod I realest last day Gopro on bow ) For Coho salmon is ( My nicest Coho so far at possession Bait beach 9-13-22) Got lots of other videos on ling and Coho. I think your last one was a great video. Thanks for sharing your videos Adam and good catch.
I think you get such a satisfying reaction to pulling up herring from the cast because humans have been doing it for millions of years. It has to be in every human's blood on some level.
That was very entertaining watching throw your cast net for a bit. I jig up herring in Alaska every spring on a Sabiki rig. We usually will bring an extra rod so when you bring up your jig full of baits you can drop the other and jig until you get another on. The tricks is leaving it out there when you feel the first jiggle. You need to use about a 3-4 oz weight and keep your line from getting slack or you will have a mess on your hands. When you go to take the herring off you should drape the bottom 3 herring in your cooler and take the top 3 off first. I like to salt my herring the day before so the do not come off as easy as well. I hope this helps if you try this out. I usually would do this and get a couple hundred every time. Good luck!
Idea for name… “Die Hard Fishing’s Favorite Featured Fishing Films” I highly recommend watching “Big Toads Surf Fishing, I got barbed by a stingray while surf fishing for halibut in Ventura, OUCH!“ because it was me that suggested the lure 🤣 Off the pier in Oceanside I remember using a Sabiki rig and jigging harder than typical for mackerel and limited in about half an hour…I’m going to have to go back and try and see if it still works… I’m not sure we can cast net here in SoCal
yooooo pickle them and smoke them, sear them, dehydrate them, they are so nutritious and tasty!!! seriously fresh Herring is a luxury that should definitely be consumed directly not primarily as bait!
Just as far as fishing videos in general go... the funniest video ever- If you haven't already seen it, search for "guy from Boston freaks out when he sees giant sunfish". It's freaking hilarious... You can totally sense his confusion and disbelief at what he is seeing... I think it went viral...They had t-shirts and interviews on TV... and more importantly I've probably seen it six or eight times and laughed my ass off every time. peace.
We use sabiki rigs here in NY, same time of year, from the shore. The Award could be the Master Baiter, this we over well with most of the recipients, some not so much. We never saw them again.
Our seasonal creek overflowed and took out my driveway, my wife and I will be locked in the house for a couple weeks until we can get the drive repaired. I'm just outside of Yosemite. Oh well, it happens! Best video's? Well, I have seen some from Florida with really hot babes wearing strings fishing. Your going to have to go pretty big to beat that!! They even catch fish but really, no one really cares!! Standing and tossing a casting net from a Yak, that was mighty impressive!!!
Last year was my first time for the herring spawn. I used a sabiki for an hour or two and then got on a major spawn and was filling my cast net all from shore. Ended up with over 200 in about 20 mins/8-10 casts. See ya out there, Adam!
Come on do the math. 200 herring out of 20 million is nothing. Sea lions and birds eat more than us. And going on for thousands of years and will continue. Even if a thousand people get 100 each, do the math
@@carlcalvin1479 it’s not about math or numbers, it’s about preservation.Right now it’s 2023 , doesn’t matter wath people’s doing for thousands years, when it’s spawning time don’t fish the rest of the time there’s no problem. Are You able to think about preservation or it’s the new world of the day ! Need your help. I know you are running the old town these days but am looking to pick up a new kayak this year and am really torn between the outback or the PA 14. I know you have experience with the Outback but any experience with the PA?
I think my favorite was one of yours fishing steelhead on maybe Seoquel Creek. The one where someone thought you couldn’t be fishing there. Other than that Taku & Jocelyn in Alaska. Man, all of your videos 2022 were amazing.
Great Video. I can’t believe just throwing the cast net got you 16 trays of herring. That’s awesome! Keep up the great work. Are you going to be going for steelhead at all?
They overharvested to export the roe to Japan, only San Francisco Bay herring have golden colored roe. The herring themselves used for fertilizer. Not like the Puget sound fishery where they are packaged for bait.
Makes perfect senses, reminds me of the massive crabbing vessels from Washington and Oregon coming to the California coast to put local crabbers out of business. The state had to put a limit on the number of pots a vessel could deploy.
Herring rate in the top 5 highest in Omega 3 fatty acids. I think you should figure out the most palatable way to eat those. Me, I am more of a sardine guy. Not a fan of anchovies. Way to mix it up and stay upright while tossing!
Lets get together this year and fish. Would love to make a video with you. Maybe the rock wall in a few months? Anyways lets make it happen and keep in touch. Tights lines
Sardines have very noticeable black spots on their sides and tend to be more cylindrical than herring. Herring are more thin from the front and ovoid side-on.
Hi dear friend, I do enjoy viewing your video ---I love seeing you catching big fishes....When will you come fishing in the big rivers of French Guyana...... some very big soft water fish !!! I am preparing a short aluminum shell 4.5 meters with a small 9.9 HP Yamaha 4 stroke engine --- I would lend it to you with pleasure !!! OK Warm regards from French Guyana
Very interesting that commercial herring purse seiners in Alaska can bring in big hauls of spawning herring that when pursed up tightly, suffocate, lose their O2 buoyancy, sink and ultimately pull down and sink the commercial seine boat.
