You know what ? I think this was true 'banter' between these guys. They knew exactly what was going on. And what was required. But, perhaps more importantly . They stayed true to themselves. RIP both. Great critics.
Reading about this in the interview in Playboy Magazine (1991), the critics told the interviewer that they didn't like working with scripts. They like to come off as natural as possible. These two have seemed to mastered the art of it, knowing what to expect from the other.
Thank you .. Siskel & Ebert at their usual finest .. I've seen two of these .. Overboard & Batteries .. Both ok, but nothing to write home about .. Moonstruck looks GREAT .. I missed it somehow .. TgT
Roddy McDowell saved the movie. He gave it heart and some gravity, as the servant who understood both lead characters and helped nudge them together. If I were Edward Herrmann and Katherine Helmond, I would have sued the screenwriter.
Moonstruck is a good movie, but is that a mic boom on cam when Cher says "Ok, ok..take me". I also liked Overboard better...it fit Kurt and Goldie's personalities so well.
I think Siskel's weakness was that gradually made him approach films too uptight , jaded , and quickly dismissive the more he reviewed , he had a harder and harder time stepping outside himself and personal tastes to observe what might work for the majority of other people as time went on , while Ebert retained that childlike unbiased clean slate year after year , even though Ebert's weakness was sometimes he was too soft and easily forgiving. Siskel favored focusing on the little Intimacies and subtleties of characters and plots In films , Ebert was usually just fine either way with big loud spectacles or nuanced artsy drama as long as he thought It was a good general crowd pleaser. Overall Ebert more naturally took every movie for what It was while Siskel was often selfishly too busy thinking of what It should or could be.
OVERBOARD seemed like modern day Capra-corn, but then you have this idea of a man being able to take advantage of a woman suffering from amnesia (either the post-traumatic kind or the retrograde category). So you see there is a cinematic trope in how the script writers portray amnesia on film.
not going to lie, i liked overboard better than moonstruck. still find it to be enjoyably silly. havent seen moonstruck in 30 years, i should give it another chance
@@mooseyman74 I rewatched it and it was better than I remembered. Hammy and overacted, yes but I believe it's intentional and part of the charm. I think of it like a time capsule as it spends a lot of time explaining customs and rituals from place and a way of life that has passed on. Enjoy it for the way it looks and the people sound. There is much to see and hear that doesn't sound like anything you will hear or see produced today.
@@erict.7647 Overboard is like a time capsule for me in that I worked on one of those salmon boats in the harbor at Fort Bragg Ca back when they filmed the scenes there. I love that movie.
Gene must have been rejected by Goldie Hawn at some point in the past because he would relentlessly bash the hell out of her movies. I was disgusted with his petty and bitter review of Overboard. You could tell he was making it personal.
The more you watch these guys the more you find that that is the case in so many different scenarios. Don't forget that these guys were doxxing people before that was even a thing. And yes I'm serious they gave out the home address of the producers of Friday the 13th as well as the home address of Betsy Palmer because they didn't like that they made the movie. Literally no other reason than that. Here write these people at their home address and tell them how much you don't like their movie… That's truly professional
moonstruck is a fantastic film, i'm so glad they seemed as giddy about it as i am!
I love Overboard!!
Early morning upload today! Thanks!

Moonstruck is the best romantic comedy ever made.
Thank you .. Siskel & Ebert at their usual finest .. I've seen two of these .. Overboard & Batteries .. Both ok, but nothing to write home about .. Moonstruck looks GREAT .. I missed it somehow .. TgT
John Patrick Shanley!!! They couldn’t say his name enough! Such a great movie.
Love Overboard it is so freaking awesome! I have watched it over and over again and never get tired of it!
Moonstruck is what i hoped Fellini films were
I really enjoyed watching Overboard over and over on cable after it came out. The panties in the glove compartment scene is pure gold...

is that in the actual theatrical cut or only in this full screen clip they released to the tv show? perhaps in widescreen it's not there.
11:09 A hamburger sandwich?
A little out of touch with the common man
Overboard is a classic!
Going after Overboard..😅....Probably Goldie’s most beloved comedies...They even had reboot that failed miserably..
I loved Overboard and Moonstruck, but I have a feeling that Overboard has a longer lasting appeal.
2:22 Boom mike!
2:22 Boom mic!
Overboard is fantastic
I love Overboard as much as Moonstruck.
Siskel seemed to only ever want originality. Ebert was more about entertainment value.

Haha the Overboard was awkward
I agree with Gene. Overboard was predictable.

I thought it was way over rated, like Amadeus
Overboard was very cool. And not a bad premise to begin with.
You have Misspelled the title wrong with Ironwood instead of "Ironweed" mate
I love overboard and Ebert is much better at this than Siskel RIP
Overboard was great fun, Siskel would probably prefer the lame pc sequel
Even as a kid, I thought Batteries Not Included kind of sucked.
Now you're kind of cooking with gas.
Overboard is better than moonstruck!
Kurt's character in Overboard is a horrible person.
I don't believe them about Moonstruck. I bet it's a chore to sit through.
Only one way to find out!
It was nominated for best picture. It won best actress, best supporting and best screenplay.
Hammy and over acted

oh i totally agree with you on that! definitely not a professional review
