i lived in austin from 1977 to 2000...man, a lot of changes during that 23 years...i rode a bicycle most of the time while willie was driving down south congress in a 59 chevy pickup doing a doobie...evolved to a small motorcycle when i was passed by mike dell in a bmw convertible drinking a lattee....whoa, time to leave dodge....hated to go but the changes were sooooo intense....headed for the pine curtain of east texas....culture totally different here for the last 20 years but i honestly prefer more trees than cars....i spent a bunch of time at the dillo...just like the sands of time so too are the days of our lives....i feel honored to have experienced the onward thru the fog austin....left before the keep austin weird era....lot of totally radical people wandered thru the fog to find the dillo.....i am not as think as you stoned i am but i do know thinking is the best way to travel.....

I probably saw 400 concerts at Armadillo from 1971-1979

Just makes me wish I had saved more of the posters. I do have Franklin's flying Burrito Brother's, though. At the time, we just assumed that the talent displayed here was normal and available everywhere else.
Kind of like we assumed Stevie Ray Vaughn and Double Trouble was just a good blues and rock band. Right. We were so spoiled.

I have one of the "5th Birthday" posters. Also one of Franklin's posters he did for Inner Sanctum Records.

Cool post, thank you. I would like to say, though, that the tune by Tracy Nelson is Elmore James' famous hit, "It Hurts Me Too".

Notice VERY few good rock bands EVER played Armadillo. Only good band I ever saw there were Amboy Dukes, Trapeze, Johnny Winter and Savoy Brown. Most were very lameass like Jerry Garcia, Bob Wier, Flying burrito Bros, Janis Joplin and Amgela Strehli.
