@Casper D. in the last 25 years I'm not disagreeing with that Top 3 at all! I believe B5 influenced DS9 during their contemporaneous run and it's obvious BSG was influenced years later. We're living in a golden age of sci-fi dramas.
@@briandeiwert5911 Actually both B5 and DS9 came out of different versions of the same script and sourcebook, basically, the same author left some copies of his ideas lying around several studios as he went after someone who would be interested in making his project a reality, and some studio head found it and handed it to the people who made DS9 as something they could take ideas from, believing that it was from some abandoned show that never made it into production, and the result were 2 shows, filmed at the same time, based on the same source. In my opinion, we've got 2 great shows for the script of one.

2:38 I love that green light board display on the back wall. It's showing galactica's structural integrity throughout the ship. This episode takes place shortly before they find the dead earth, but this split second moment already shows just how weakened galatica has become. as it shows most of her lateral struts (her spine) has been compromised. Granted the cylon renegades buy her some time in the coming episode with repairs, but its a wonderful attention to detail foreshadowing tighs statement in the final episode after her last jump that "all lateral structural lights on the board are red... her backs broken, she'll never jump again." Little things that make this show great.
It does not exactly make sense though - how was it a surprise for them, that structural damage is so extensive, if they had a board displaying this info in the CIC all the time ... ?
@@TheBlobik They knew about the big obvious damage to the support struts. What they didn't realize untill after the cyclon renegades joined them was just how much of the secondary support web (the tendons and ligaments) throughout the ship was simply destroyed. on top of that tyril tells adama that damage aside, the ship was built WAY below specs at the ship yard, they cut alot of corners. As a result the crew's understanding of her maximum integrity was based upon a ship built to code....galactica was not and as such damage the specs said the ship could endure was crippling to the now elderly and under-supported galactica.
@@Phoenixesper1 Well it's less about intentional than it was about was on hand when Galactica was refurbished after her forced grounding at I believe Aerlon in the first war, after Galactica was retrieved by a reformed Colonial Navy the refurbished her in secret and thus couldn't bring here to the docks at Scorpia and Daedolis had already been lost at that point so if your gonna refurbish a Jupiter-class Battlestar in secret you are really limited where you can dock her and you don't have access to all the materials you should given the security situation.
You can just imagine how much the civilian ship drivers and anyone at a window went to brown alert when a Baseship drops in to say hello right in the middle of the fleet.
This has always been one of my favorite scenes. You can sense the absolute panic, discord, and fear of the crew on all three ships from not knowing who’s friend or enemy. The other ships in the fleet, and the president’s shuttle hurrying to the safety of Galactica, really amplified the gravity of the situation as the Vipers race past the civilian vessels desperately trying to jump away. This scene was executed just phenomenally. We also can’t forget Bear’s scoring. High marks all around.
When the show was coming out week to week there was a real sense of desperation that you felt, you truly realized that Humanity was close to extinction and every single ship counted. On top of the decently hard sci-fi and just enough politics I don't think I've ever found a show that replicated the perfect storm of themes this show presented.
The only weak point was Adama's "countdown" to open fire, obviously there to give Tigh the chance to scream out, "Weapons Hold!". That didn't feel natural, and threw off the whole pacing of the scene.

Really nothing special that Tigh did. As Rob Gyanisu said, he simply noticed no Raiders were launching. As shown in the first episode, Cylons are pretty predictable. For me, BSG went bad after the New Caprica rescue. It was still an ok show but never again reached the heights of S1/S2 along with the Battle of New Caprica. The lack of discipline could be explained as Galactica was the remnant of the Colonial military plus it was a ship that was literally en route to the scrap yard at the time of the attack. So it was staffed with personnel either looking for a retirement job or ones who were likely deemed by the fleet to be unworthy of serving on more modern ships. That's probably the last thing a lot of Cylons ever saw and is probably one of the most threatening things a Battlestar can do. Especially after what the Pegasus did.
Bought these season after season on DVD, then upgraded to BD as soon as the complete box set was released. Worth every penny. Show was outstanding and the Galactica became a major character in herself. One of the toughest ships in sci-fi and one of the most iconic. I choked up when she made her final jump and her super structure collapsed. She never let the crew down or the fleet she protected. She was the greatest Battlestar of them all.
If I recall, the basestar couldn't jump they had to get data from the Demetrius to jump, of course they could have jumped first tell everybody what was going to happen, then jump back... but, then it would not be fun.
When they weren't busy adding additional models for no reason. Dialogue in season 1 indicated about sixty odd ships (63 after Olympic Carrier's destruction in 33 when it was indicated by Dualla that there were 63 civilian ships (53 jumped away Jump 237, 10 reporting trouble with FTLs)). I've counted the entire fleet (except in Six Degrees of Separation) and I got 84 ships in total (including the seven we know were lost onscreen -- Olympic Carrier, Cloud Nine, one of the six Colonial Movers, one of the two Kodiaks, one of the three Long-necked ships, Adriatic (one of the two Colonial Defenders), Carina (one of the four flattops) and Pyxis (one of the three Sagitarrian Spaceways passenger liners)).
In the origina tvl series, when flying the Cylon raider, Starbuck and Apollo wobbled the wings to show Galactica that it was them. I was half expecting them to wobble the base star.
I was today years old when I found out there are 2 people sitting in the turret system on Glacatica's spine. That has got to be the most awesome yet horrifying position to be sitting in
That baseship was in the middle of their fleet for a good two minutes, without firing any weapon or launching a single raider. Obviously something was off. Adama should have gotten the viper pilots to visually confirm what was going on before giving the order to fire.
To be fair if an enemy ship suddenly appeared in the middle of your fleet you are going to think about how to destroy it before you really notice how weird it is. which is exactly what Tigh does, he orders wings of vipers to attack then in a moment of pause realised how off the situation is. it's only 1 base star, they haven't launched Raiders or Missiles and are just sitting in the middle of the fleet.
Additionally "in the middle" in space could still be several hundred miles given the speed and size of these vessels and the time taken for the vipers to arrive had the demetrius not appeared the vipers may have called in that something was off before committing to an attack
If this was a military fleet in the first Cylon War, maybe. But being the last known survivors of humanity Adama was not taking chances. You see an enemy, you shoot them.
Being in the USAF there was this one time we had a high level operation. Essentially, we monitor our folks down range via aircraft. Normally, we go about our business like an office (yes, chair force) but this time we had our Base Commander present. Anyways it was a big deal and we had to "run the horn" before we started. ... "Intel, Go. Weather, all good. Comm, we're good. Maintenance, good." It was a such a battlestar galactica cliche moment and I-LOVED-IT. LOL! #spaceforce
One of the most underrated character in the show. If you've ever been in any Navy, that's an XO. Always in a bad mood and usually giving the shitty orders.
They really should have had the Demitries jump in first and explain that a BaseStar was going to be jumping in. Even if both ships had jumped in at once, it would still cause panic amongst the fleet and cause an emergency jump, wasting supplies.
Part of the success of these shows was the often phenomenal music by Bear McCreary. It’s been a real shame that all the other things he’s scored have been so... boring. There’s not a single thing of distinction from his years of scoring The Walking Dead, for example. Still, at least he had a terrific run with Galactica...
@@DavidSonofDavid Touché. That's a thumbs up from me too - great comeback; his God of War score is superb indeed. I should have rephrased my comment better - I meant his TV scores, which haven't been as good.
I remember watching the original series as a kid in the early eighties.. and i was even more thrilled to watch this "updated & reimagined" one.. From a campy space romp to this magnificently gritty, rough and well written show. The show Caprica didn't work for me though.. I was hoping to see more of the Cylon war era that we had a glimpse of in the webisodes and the mini-series.
We would have got that if they hadn't cancelled it. Caprica was just starting to get good in last few episodes. They just wasted too much time on sub plots, from the few upcoming scenes they showed, the 2nd Season, if there had been one would have been much better. It's a pity they wasted entire episodes on bad sub plots that could have been condensed into a single episode. I think if it had had another season the prove itself it would have been great.
Forgot how intense this show was. Seriously, a few mins of BSG is far better than most sci-fi in the last decade and more. Only good sci fi alive these days is The Expanse
I loved those little moments where the cylons showed their robotic nature, in the earlier seasons it was shown that models had a way of communicating to each other kind of like a cybernetic kind of telepathy or wireless communication.... and that was how I interpreted this scene that the final five were able to communicate to each other like this and thus Anders was somehow communicating to Tigh that they were there and not to fire
The Baseship was just sitting there, not firing and not launching Raiders, which contradicts everything the Cylons had previously done. It’s not telepathy, it’s Tigh reading the situation and seeing something is different.
If you've watched the show, the basestar needed to sync to the Demetrius to jump because it's navigation systems were damaged, and the Demetrius only had enough tylium left for a single jump. That's why they had to jump together.
The people on the ship at 2:45 must be having a fucking hell of a ride, the pilot filling his pants and everything not bolted down turning the interior into a blender.
There was always something dramatically beautiful about seeing the fleet ships jumping away - like you could just see the panic. For the civilian ships, jumping was the only thing they could do. I'll always remember the scene in the miniseries where those ships with FTL have to jump away to avoid being destroyed - leaving those without to the mercy of the Cylons.
From what I know Lore wise, that Defender had been converted into a civilian ship. No guns or other military hardware whatsoever. Btw, did you know there were a bunch of Defender in Serenity as part of the Reaver fleet? ^^
Those viper pilots probably didnt only shit themselves when the demetrius showed up right in front of them so suddenly, but also probably were swearing up the biggest storm known to the twelve colonies
Got to say I loved the Baseship, needs proper guns, armor, and point defense systems, they never felt like they were meant for war but mobile space stations.

Love this scene. Even when Demetrius jumped in, Galactica didn't stand down until they got authentication.
Having the Galactica bearing down on them probably scared the Cylons since the last time a Battlestar did that, it took two Basestars down with it.
3, the one in opening volley, the one they rammed and the last being the one the pontoon took out after it exploded.
That's pretty bad ass how the basestar can repair itself.
that is why the Battlestars are designed to smash the Basestars into nothing with kinetic weapons.
@@SantomPh Still cool that a ship can repair itself
@Jimbo Bimbo My exactly thoughts
I found it scary
4:40 Galactica in the background poised to strike like an apex predator. Reminds me of a great white shark looking at a tasty morsel.
This scene was always memorable because of the fleet dissolving into panic fleeing. They spun all over the place.
That's probably the last thing a lot of Cylons ever saw and is probably one of the most threatening things a Battlestar can do. Especially after what the Pegasus did.
Badass indeed!! And I love how Dee ordered the Demetrius to authenticate. Her intense eyes and voice was lovely.
The best part for me? The Galactica turning towards the ship. Idk about you but there is vehemence and spite in the way she moves.
CAN YOU STOP REMINDING ME HOW GOOD THIS SHOW WAS!
You know, a lone baseship looks awfully tiny when a battlestar is rushing it down...
I feel like this applies to any ship. When a Battlestar is charging you, showing its teeth, any ship will seem tiny and powerless
@@ElysiumCreator Except maybe another battlestar.
The sets on this series was always high quality, it really immerses u into the world
Get me some more frackin’ birds in the air! Gotta love Tigh.
All of this could have probably been prevented by having the Demetrius jump first, and having the base star follow 2 or 3 minutes later. :P
Hey Hey, stop that. You must be really fun at parties..🤪
Come on...there has to be drama...if not whats the point. Common sense set aside for drama.
If I recall, the basestar couldn't
jump they had to get data from the Demetrius to jump, of course they could have jumped first tell everybody what was going to happen, then jump back... but, then it would not be fun.
Its TV. If that happened there wouldn't be a any drama now would there.
The basestar's ftl was slaved to the Demetrius
I’m glad the writers didn’t have any civilian ships crash into the baseship by accident. The fleet at this point in the series had nice CGI shots.
Starbuck keeps going out and coming back with new ships. A raider, then a baseship, later on an entirely new viper.
In the origina tvl series, when flying the Cylon raider, Starbuck and Apollo wobbled the wings to show Galactica that it was them. I was half expecting them to wobble the base star.
I was today years old when I found out there are 2 people sitting in the turret system on Glacatica's spine. That has got to be the most awesome yet horrifying position to be sitting in
02:45 Those civilian liners be like: Holy frak! Holy frak! Holy frak!
The look on Tigh's face when he realized what almost happened
@dark zeratul I disagree. And you may want to look into actual history of naval wars and battles.
Yes, and the whole fleet were fleeing all over the place. It was quite funny.
If this was a military fleet in the first Cylon War, maybe. But being the last known survivors of humanity Adama was not taking chances. You see an enemy, you shoot them.
Imagine glancing out your window on a civi transport. Looking down, then glancing back and seeing a base star parked next to you...
3:44 Tigh is observant and smart.
Even though the Col was a sleeper, he was military all the way, and his loyalty to Adama was never an issue.
He wasn't even a sleeper. The Final Five were never on the side of the "evil" Cylons; their aim was to PREVENT the humans' destruction.
Maintenance, good."
It was a such a battlestar galactica cliche moment and I-LOVED-IT. LOL!
#spaceforce
Cool! And thank you for your service
Probably because you were a nonner
This one time.....at band camp..........
camera guy when the Demtrius doesn't jump "um excuse me WHAT?!"
One of the most underrated character in the show. If you've ever been in any Navy, that's an XO. Always in a bad mood and usually giving the shitty orders.
Tigh himself mentioned, if no one hates XO, that means he does his job really bad.
I guess the colonial laundry ship overheated that night....
So, like every Tuesday ^^
They really should have had the Demitries jump in first and explain that a BaseStar was going to be jumping in.
Even if both ships had jumped in at once, it would still cause panic amongst the fleet and cause an emergency jump, wasting supplies.
Part of the success of these shows was the often phenomenal music by Bear McCreary. It’s been a real shame that all the other things he’s scored have been so... boring. There’s not a single thing of distinction from his years of scoring The Walking Dead, for example. Still, at least he had a terrific run with Galactica...
th-cam.com/video/XFTcA4QLHw0/w-d-xo.html
Doomstar Requiem and God of War are hardly boring
Music was not as important on the twd as was bsg
@@DavidSonofDavid Touché. That's a thumbs up from me too - great comeback; his God of War score is superb indeed. I should have rephrased my comment better - I meant his TV scores, which haven't been as good.
@@vercoda9997 I'd place his work on Agents of SHIELD as superior to BSG

“Launch alert 5! Get me some
More fracking birds in the air! Gun batteries stand by for target bearing!”
Well, looks like I'm going to have to watch this show again. Been a couple of years, forgot how good it was.
That was always such a "WHOA" moment
Oh thank you very much. Now I have to watch the series again to feel the awesomeness.
I ❤how tense the scenes are ....they are such good actors
I love all the fleet ships spilling away from the baseship while their FTLs spool up. Such a great scene.
Forgot how intense this show was. Seriously, a few mins of BSG is far better than most sci-fi in the last decade and more. Only good sci fi alive these days is The Expanse
The Expanse has great graphics but the dialogue drags on and is boring in some parts.
So you have seen DIscovery and Picard. Seen how the corpse of Star Trek is being violated.
😞
How can you say that when we have such amazing shows today like Star Trek: Discovery. And Star Trek: Picard?!.... hehehehehe...
I disagree. Tigh is a military genius and his intuition told him to weapons hold.
The Baseship was just sitting there, not firing and not launching Raiders, which contradicts everything the Cylons had previously done. It’s not telepathy, it’s Tigh reading the situation and seeing something is different.
Tigh is not just a military genius he is also genius scientist he just doesn't remember it
I have to be wondering what it was like at 2:50. Everyone on the civilian ships must have been like holy….!
God i loved this show. Best TV I've ever watched.
Gods. FTFY. 😁
Remind me why Demetrius couldn't jump first and warn the fleet the allied Cylon ship is coming?
Gotta love Galactica bearing down on the Baseship like a mother bulldog guarding her litter. "These are MY pups, WHO THE HELL ARE YOU?!"
One of the best show on tv in the last 20 years.
Adama's final stare at Col. Tigh just send shills down my spine... even though he got it right... that is the correct character of a leader
The soundtrack from 2:45 is amazing. I never could find the name of the song.
Count down 10 9 8 7 6 shows 6. Love this show.
Saul is a fu**ing amazing character!
probably should have had the demetrius go back first to warn them and this could all be avoided
If you've watched the show, the basestar needed to sync to the Demetrius to jump because it's navigation systems were damaged, and the Demetrius only had enough tylium left for a single jump. That's why they had to jump together.
Everytime these pop up on my feed I watch the series all over again!!!! Here we go......😎👍
Phew !!!! ...... Just another moment. The Show was crammed full of them, so good that show was.
The people on the ship at 2:45 must be having a fucking hell of a ride, the pilot filling his pants and everything not bolted down turning the interior into a blender.
I think I need to rewatch this show again. Bringing back some good memories.
2:45 If the colonial ships could speak: "Oh $hit! Oh $hit! Oh $hit!"
tense moment; I had to put my beer down, the first time through.
Character development. Dee doesn't wait to be ordered to get authentication, she just jumps in on her own authority. I love that moment.
Great show
Does anyone know the OST when the baseship jumps into the fleet?
What song is that? The one that plays when the base star jumps in without the Demetrius.
XO countering Adamas command: Priceless.
As an XO can do, as long as it is for a VERY GOOD REASON. Especially when you are countering Admiral Adama's order.
Best sci-fi box set ever
I never noticed Galactica had a Defender Class Escort until now :D
Too bad they never showed it in action
From what I know Lore wise, that Defender had been converted into a civilian ship. No guns or other military hardware whatsoever.
Btw, did you know there were a bunch of Defender in Serenity as part of the Reaver fleet? ^^
I'm pretty sure I watched Spacedock talk about this, both the decommed retrofitted part and the reaver fleet tidbit.
@High Lord Baron oh no doubt lol
At what time can I see it? I still don't see it
@@DudiMr I think it's at 3:38, the ship with the two prongs at the rear.
Old lady turned to Fight!
FYI. In the US, Battlestar Galactica is currently streaming on NBC’s streaming service Peacock.
I always liked that shot of the galactica approaching the base star. Almost looks like a shark coming in for the kill.
Tigh's got some good instincts.
when having a relaxing day but then 2:27
Chills...nothin’ but chills down my spine...
😳🙂
what is the song that is beeing played there? is there a version that has a clearer version of the melody ? PLZ I NEED HELP
Seelix intentionally botched the 'sync points of the jump coordinates' because she wanted the baseship, Athena and Kara 2.0 to get shot down.
"Frakking thing sitting right on top of us!" God's, I love Saul.
Haha how scared was everyone when the Cylon ship ftl right on top of them💀💀
Those viper pilots probably didnt only shit themselves when the demetrius showed up right in front of them so suddenly, but also probably were swearing up the biggest storm known to the twelve colonies
Need to re-watch the whole thing again.
Man, I'dforgotten that scene, there's so much good stuff in that series.
I love when they're doing the countdown and they get to six they cut to the Six
Still gives me goosebumps...
I miss the Pegasus so much it was the perfect Battlestar.
Одна из любимых сцен за все сезоны, абсолютно гениально
2:40 one of the best shots of the space dedicated to Damage control
Always be one of my favorite scenes
Soundtrack is so goosebumpyyy i love it
Got to say I loved the Baseship, needs proper guns, armor, and point defense systems, they never felt like they were meant for war but mobile space stations.
I never thought they were, since the whole war was cavils doing to get back at the five. They wanted peace to end the cycle.
Weapons HOLD!
