- This “Blessings Medley” begins with one verse of “Showers of Blessing” and then transitions to a verse of “Count Your Blessings”-which emphasizes the importance of a grateful spirit, certainly appropriate for tomorrow's Thanksgiving holiday.
The lyrics of “Count Your Blessing” were penned by Johnson Oatman (1856 -1922), and the melody was composed by Edwin Excell (1851-1921). D.W. Whittle (1840 -1901) wrote the words to “Showers of Blessing,” and James McGlanahan (1840-1907) composed the tune.
The word “thanksgiving” appears twenty-eight times in the Holy Bible, and one of the most well-known of these verses is Psa 100:4: “Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise: be thankful unto Him, and bless His name.”
I thank God for the many, many blessings upon my life.
