    "The simulacrum continues forever."
I always love it when a deeply psychologically distressing piece of media is met with repurposed, generally calming music to add an extreme sense of discomfort.
Prelude is by far the best choice given the lore behind the void, and having it remade by you of all people adds to this.

This song is one that always brings me tears. My late friend Ron passed to parkinson's a few years back. I would spend multiple nights a week hanging out with him and helping sooth his nerves. He was older and I introduced him to new things and he took what time he had to introduce me to new things. One thing we did often was listen to music together and share new experiences. He showed me quite a lot and I ended up listening to "Raindrops" fairly often with him.
Then one day I spent a few hours with him again and he was really struggling. We talked a little bit but he was not doing well. We listened to music and he hummed along with me while we relaxed. The last song we listened to before I left was "Raindrops". I left with just an exchange of simple goodbyes and hugs - I didn't know I would never speak to him again. During his last 3 days he stopped responding to anything. I got to say my true goodbyes, but he never did. All I hear when I hear this song playing is him humming along with it. I know it's not, but it feels like his goodbye. Its a terrible day for rain, but this song is perfect. It brings me so many memories and I'm so glad to hear Chris' rendition. This game has meant alot to me over the past few years, and now this game means more to me than you could imagine.

Chris I... here's a story. DLC just came out, I don't have enough time to properly play, but I wanted to poke around in the menus. I hadn't heard this track anywhere, obviously.
and... it made me tear up. Not many games can bring me to tears, I'll be honest. I don't know what it is, but maybe the fact it caught me off guard - expecting a tense, scary track... but it feels like a peaceful cosmos, with some strangeness...
and the background atmosphere in game... the stages in bubbles... its endearing? in a way?

What is it going to be this time? A beat so low that it shakes the core of your soul or a melody so twisted it brings your reality to the singularity of the void. You never seize to surprise Chris. Tempering with musicians of the romantic period is risky. Still, you have not only done a great job, but you also managed to express the sinister and dark notes in Chopin's compositions. While playing the game, your originals brought goosebumps as they did happiness to my mind. It is always an emotional roller coaster while listening to your work; not many musicians can entangle their music directly with someone else's soul. Risk Of Rain 2 would be nothing without you, and more importantly, you are a gift to people that stumble upon your artistry. Thank you for the music! Always on the lookout for more of your work.

He introduced me to risk of rain 2, and so many other games. He would’ve loved this update. He died of an overdose a couple of months ago. We would talk about this game all day in school, and then run home and play it together, completely forgetting to do our homework lmao. When SOTV was announced, we talked about how hyped we were for it for days. I wish he lived long enough to see it. He was annoying sometimes, but an amazing friend. During one trip Chopin took with his lover, she noticed that due to deteriorating health and mental state most likely, Chopin would sit outside, listening to the repetitive droplets of rain. This is said to be the reason for the constant and repetitive Ab note through the song.
When you enter the Simulacrum lobby screen, near the end of the information of the mode it says...
    "This is a replication."
    "This is a replication."
    "This is a replication."
    In other words, a repeat.
    _Repeat._
    What's another word for repeating?
    _Repetitive._
Just like the story of Chopin's idea for this song.
Even the phrase on the lobby screen _repeats_ 3 times.
You've done it again, Chris. (Or maybe I'm just getting too carried away... -w-)
Edit: I don't know why I never edited this sooner, but it was discovered a little while ago that the Simulacrum lobby screen is called the "Infinite Tower" in the files, further cementing my theory on the relation between the song and the Simulacrum.

    It feels...strange.
It doesn't feel like the peak of dawn, the beginning it hunted down...but rather, the beginning of something terrible.
To shed away, one's own humanity
To offer the hunt, their own soul
To take, rob, seek a victory deemed impossible
To rule amidst flesh, stronger than circuits and steel
To detach yourself from humanity, even if just this once...
To build, to destroy all standing in your station
To flourish, wishing to become part of something
To obey, and act upon another's will
To be known, throughout memories of those you meet
To hear the sounds of a sweet silence
To leave, and make a new life
To forge a legacy of but only the finer things in life
To fight, to make this place home
To run away, seeing fate for what it is
To embrace the past, and guide the broken
To seek forth the monsters in a focused act of revenge
To act in response, to aid the allies at it's side
To sustain, keeping alive both metal and flora
For them all. This beckons the beginning of a rainstorm. One...that will change them for the better or for the worst.
Amazing work Chris. And may the suffering within this storm flourish into a life of it's very own.

Quiet before the storm. I immediately went to listen to Chopin, who's music I'd never heard before. His music conveys to me a feeling of serenity haunted by inklings of despair, and that is beautiful.
I cannot believe how absolutely calm I feel right now. I feel like the most placid person on the planet, minutes are mere seconds in this state of mind. Everything I do is imbued with this transcendent quality where it feels like everything ever has led up to THIS moment, this mere moment of me clicking my mouse, tapping the keys on my keyboard...
Maybe Chopin's music was chosen specifically for how effortlessly it creates introspection and a feeling of importance, only to cruelly contrast with RoR's usual alienating tones. I can't tell, because perhaps my experience with Chopin's music is just that: my own.
Whatever the case, the classic RoR sounds are perfectly woven into the music - gentle, friendly, just a bit sad. I'd love to hear more like this from you, and in general.

This feels like a comforting song, gentle and reassuring in it's calmness, but wrong. As if it is an attempt at an alien being trying to keep you placid but not understanding what causes it. It has the right track, but every interjection feels like it's feeling out the music then reading what it's saying, what it's doing.

This version of Raindrops really does capture the hopelessness of the Simulacrum. Just read the Planetarium's lore between 0:50 and 1:30. It feels a lot worse. Now imagine the narrator's voice, trembling. Shivering, mumbling, on the verge of tears. His whole previous "life" was a lie. Everything was part of the simulacrum. It was all fabricated, and he can never escape. It's just like the gamemode itself: A million scenarios (waves of assorted enemies, all with elite types and different compositions). A million permutations (items integrated into the cell, and augments). And it continues forever. There is no ending to the simulacrum. You're stuck there, undying, until the end of time.
But, even through hopelessness, there is beauty to the simulacrum's sky. Sometimes you need to take a minute to appreciate the scenery, and if you look up, you'll see an infinite sea. It's breathtaking It doesn't change the fact that you are still stuck in the simulacrum forever, but at least it can offer a moment of respite before the next scenario. I really hope we are offered an actual escape to the simulacrum in a later DLC, because I just want these survivors to be happy again.

i fell out of playing piano during the beginning of the pandemic. got a lot of depression from staying inside all the time and just never had the inspiration to get to my piano to play. but once survivors of the void came out and i heard this song i dunno man it like reignited something.
currently learning how to play this piece. its not that difficult compared to some stuff i used to play, but it makes me happier compared to the songs i used to practice and i couldn't ask for more. thank you chris for this beautiful rendition. it brings me somewhere much nicer(despite the horrors of the simulacrum).

My favourite music of all time is Chopin's piano concerto 1 movement 2, and piano concerto 2 movement 1. The former especially - when the cascading piano plays in all its romantic glory, it makes you feel like you're in passionate love for the first time. I've never heard music capture the sheer pleasure of love like that, not even close.

The fact that you chose this beautiful prelude by the great Frederick Chopin, for the very place that it was put in somehow made me genuinely terrified. Like I can't really breath when hearing this for the whatever the wave gamemode is called, it's very interesting.

If I had a nickel for every time I'd heard Frederic Chopin's Raindrop Prelude in a video game that I love, I'd have three nickels, which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it's happened thrice.
    Halo 3: Believe
    Signalis: Remember Our Promise
Risk of Rain 2 SotV: And so they left...

I've always liked the intentional/unintentional joke that was given to you when you look at Simulacrum's description. In that description, near the end, it reads:
    "This is a replication."
    "This is a replication."
    "This is a replication."
It's funny seeing those 3 sentences lined up like that. Yes, their main use is to irk you. But by saying "This is a replication" more than once, you are... you know... replicating what you just said. Maybe it's not ha-ha funny, but it made me crack a smile.
Someone is inevitably going to point out how I likely pointed out something they've already noticed, but before they do I would like to say thank *you* for composing the soundtrack for Risk of Rain. You compliment the game in such a way that I fail to see any other composer achieving. Absolutely looking forward to the commentary on the DLC tracks.
