This song feels like the emotion I had looking up in the void and seeing that void whale swim around, knowing its out there and its unfathomable how massive it is, how its such a unique departure from the rest of the void creatures, its not some crustacean or anything, its more fleshy and less like a living machine made of hard shells and the void, I wanna reach out and touch the only truly peaceful being in the void, I wanna know what it is exactly and why its so different, I wanna know if the void isn't just some unfathomable hell hole from prisoners waiting for their sentence at the end of time, I wanna know if this place is like our world, a place where there is life and the beings there love it, I want to know if they're not just working from the void but live there and take care of its floating islands in the deep of infinity

Its so cool seeing you get the recognition you deserve over the years. From 2013 when I first picked up Risk of Rain and started making Command builds that could stand still so I could just listen to the music, to 2016 with Deadbolt, then 2019 with Risk of Rain 2. Its hard to really put into words, but these feelings are super happy. Not only do you get to make more of what you love and are excellent at, but have it reach millions more people too while also growing as an artist too. More people get to feel how transformative this music really is.
    It's so goddamn cool.
This song, though. I love it, and it has so much to listen to! From feeling contemplative to fierce and even melancholic, it really doesn't spare the listener from letting the emotion of the track take you. The guitars feel like a guilty teatamony, the piano quietly grieves that other instruments stole its piece, the bass a familiar friend, the synths this futuized edict from Chopin that somehow feels aloof. All of it comes together in this almost enigmantic track. Its tracks like this that give me life and make me remember why I love music. I dont really have the words to describe it, and boy have I tried, but damn does it make me feel something.

Its incredible the way the ending of the song manages to take you from a feeling of regret, despair, sadness or such, to a sensation of inner peace. The wavy ambient sounds at the end makes it feel like pure inner peace.

I don’t know if anyone else has had this idea but I used to swap the music in the original RoR for some of the songs from Muse’s first two albums and the combination is extremely effective. Butterflies and Hurricanes is a great sort of sister track to Dew Point, for example. Likewise for Pray for Absolution and Coalescence.

this song sounds like sickness. like pacing the halls of a hospital filled with festering wounded, filled with dread, knowing it will only get worse from here. it feels like watching the clock tick while bombers get ever closer. it feels like an air raid siren fading in and out of consciousness while you stumble around, wracked with fever and blight, aimlessly, wordlessly, in agony and lethargy and fear. it feels like the seconds, days in the aftermath of a nuclear bomb, the very earth blasted with vitriol and writhing in agony as her children corrode and dissolve away between her fingers. absolutely brilliant.

Your work on RoR (1 & 2) is a masterpiece.
The RoR's music has a kind of SF poetry that makes me travel far, with a little smile and a strange nostalgia for the future... an unadvertised, fluid quietness that contrasts with the frantic shooters.

ever since i first began playing risk of rain 2 i immediately was in love with your sound, especially as to how well it plays off of the visuals, aesthetic, narrative, and thematic feel of the risk of rain games. the survivors of the void tracks especially moved me to tearful emotions, once again amplified by the context of the game itself. the world of risk of rain and the accompany music has this sort of 'tragic beauty' that really feels emblematic of space itself that i feel not many pieces of media really touch on. they talk about the beauty of space a lot, and space is beautiful, but something about something as simple as a title like 'survivors of the void' translates this feeling for me that is kind of hard to put into words. risk of rain really captures the cold apathetic cruel feeling of space that still draws us in and intrigues us. everything about petrichor V is hostile, foreign, wants to rid of us for invading their home, and yet it keeps drawing us in. the area of existence where gravity is the least abundant and yet it has a gravity of its own. a lot of this is expressed through the feelings i get from listening to the music and how floaty and unnerving the sounds are yet i can't stop myself from wanting to learn its rhythm. learn the intricacies and nuances of the alien sound of space and the void and the places in-between and beyond time. the orchestral segments on the SOTV ost really get me especially because of how innately human they are compared to the rest of the sound. the merging of the warm feeling nature of humanity and the cold unfeeling nature of space by literally combining the beautiful piano and the droning quirky synths. I wrote a college paper about the ROR2 ost in one of my classes about studying video game music because it made me feel so many things that putting it down onto a formal paper felt like the least of things i could do. every time i listen to my ROR vinyls i ponder these feelings and also just jam out to some really nice tunes. i love your music a lot chris and its very special to me, so thank you!! beyond risk of rain i want to be a fan of your sound and i thank hopoo for creating a beautiful world and for introducing me to your music.

I find that, the music plays so well off the visuals, in part because everything is going on in the song. Lost of details and things happenning at all time, very similar to the gameplay. Since the game is designed to be very chaotic, with all your items skills and enemies acting at the same time, you also have a lot of things to think about. Like in the music. Lots of things going on at all time, during visually, auditively, and musically. Combine that with the sad but hopeful setting and tone of the game's story and soundtrack, and it conveis that feeling of beauty and sadness of space, and life. For some reason, I played RoR1 when I was young. a lot, I liked it. Years passed after playing the game, but Coalescence always was stuck in my head. When I realised that, I got into the RoR music again, and never got out again since for the last 6 years or so. I kind of think that the reason I was brought back to reliving Coalescence is how it very well encapsulated how I was living at that time with life. Sad and melamcholic, but Hopeful, not willing to give up yet.
