We were upper primary students then. We used to hear a lot of stories about killings and refugees pouring into India. The Indian News Review in the theatres was showing moving images of Bangladehis. I remember very well the 'Bangladesh tax' (10 paise) levied on cinema tickets. After the victory the college students in our town took out a huge procession in which we children shouted slogans. All that we knew was India defeated Pakistan and vivisected it. The whole nation was jubilant. Elders in our families got glued to radio sets and felt elated at the turn of events. Later we realized that national pride was at its zenith in December 1971, as never before or after. The sacrifices of East Bengalis are to be written in golden letters. Thousands of Bangladeshis like Col Sajjid had scripted a new chapter in the history of liberation struggles.
Thanks Karan and the Wire for such an interview. There are thousands of heroic stories in our war of Liberation. Almost every single person suffered in 1971. But, we are a grateful and dignified nation. Col. Sajjad carried that spirit. Hats off to him.

This guy has been exposed by Pakistan. When he deserted in 1971, he was only a 2nd lt. A 2nd lt has no plans of unit or any confidential information. Lt gen amjad shoaib who was at one time responsible for army cases confirmed no death penalty exsists against him and even invited him to come and visit. Also he named some other people e.g some on the rank of major who deserted and they could have helped indian army. Plus he deserted late, Such a fake actor has been awarded awards by indians. Just ludicrous
Going by that logic your forefathers were traitors/deserters who violated India's integrity felling into the trap of partition by emotionally reacting on propaganda against India. And yes this fact has now been fairly established with several examples from history.

1971 is the most glorious moment of history for both Bangladesh and India . Unlike Pakistanis, It is not a shameful event for us . We like to remember it and show our respect to each other. Indian soldiers have been honored in Bangladesh, Bangladeshi freedom fighters have been honored in India. We will keep celebrating our freedom as long as Bangladesh exists, you have any problem? You don't know how to be good neighbours and how to maintain relationships. We dont thrive on war, conspiracy and destabilising others.
Salute to great Bangladeshi General SAJID , he is real hero of both india and Bangladesh, not only both countries but he fought for the universal human rights, Bangladesh was a greatest human crisis for all humanity, 4 millions Bangladeshi was butchered in such an inhuman way , hundreds of thousands of Bangladeshi women were raped by Pakistani army .but as their is a saying in English,”EVERY BAD LUCK IS OPPORTUNITY “ now Bangladesh is a very progressive country much better than Pakistan, it is the greatest attribute to the soul of Bangladesh citizens and Indian solider who lay their life for a great cause .
What an interview and what a story of col. Sajjad. Thanks Karan for bringing such beautiful interviews to us. Col. Sajjad hats off to that 20 yr old boy...
Traitors of one side are heroes to others ... Before him Muslim ummah had Mir Jafar , Mir Sadiq etc Mir Jafar served as the commander of the Bengali army under Siraj ud-Daulah, the Nawab of Bengal, but betrayed him during the Battle of Plassey and succeeded Daulah after the British victory in 1757. Mir Jafar received military support from the East India Company furthering British victory Mir Sadiq held the post of a minister in the cabinet of Tipu Sultan of Mysore. In the Fourth Anglo-Mysore War in 1798-99, he allegedly betrayed Tipu Sultan during the Siege of Srirangapatana, paving the way for a British victory Fast Forward names have changed but characters remain the same and paved the way for Indian victory and creation of Bangla Desh
Very interesting. Thanks to Col. Sajjad for sharing his experiences with all of us and doing his part in liberating his people in very trying times. However, I do not believe someone as junior as him would have possessed any strategically vital/useful information to the Indian army.
He duped Indian Army or they just want to find a hero to give him an award he graduated 3 months before the war starts everything he claimed to start was already well underway he is lying to his teeth

of the people of Bangladesh? Still in your country you have voting rights but for the last 10 years Bangladeshi voters had no rights to cast their votes since this regime has become North Korean Kim like authortarian thug!
What is Sheikh Haseena doing to supress people? Can you tell? We don't know much about it.
For my mother I will dedicate my life.
A good interview. Thanks for all concerned person behind the creation of the same
Great interview and recognizes the real spirit of friendship bet India andBangla Desh
What n experience.....a person goes beyond his emotions to help his country ..his people....we indians salute people like col sajjad sir who loves his mother land so much...we should thank sajjad sir for his cooperation to indian army....
Will the wire dare to bring in some stories about Kashmiri sufferers ?
Pok bhi bheekh maang raha kya
In today's scenario in August 24 where is the veteran war hero of 71 .Hope he safe in Bangladesh.?
Great information Col. Sajjad
Wishing u happy life
Commend The Wire for bring us these stories!
Incredible story indeed 👏
This man pass out from Pakistan military academy in Aug 1971 he join unit in Sept as second lieutenant. Now what plans and experience he has think about it if someone little knowledge about army.😂lol. award wasted
Ro lein bhi kari
This guy has been exposed by Pakistan. When he deserted in 1971, he was only a 2nd lt. A 2nd lt has no plans of unit or any confidential information. Lt gen amjad shoaib who was at one time responsible for army cases confirmed no death penalty exsists against him and even invited him to come and visit. Also he named some other people e.g some on the rank of major who deserted and they could have helped indian army. Plus he deserted late, Such a fake actor has been awarded awards by indians. Just ludicrous
You guys 'expose' everything without documentary proof lol
@@anshuecon did this col give any proof. An ex lt gen is on record confirming army has no case against him or infact anyone from 1971
@@XtremeFun Yes and no one was convicted of war crimes. You're making a powerful point, but not in your favour lol.
Technically, a traitor/deserter who violated his oath & emotionally reacted on propaganda against Pakistan. The History has proved it.
Going by that logic your forefathers were traitors/deserters who violated India's integrity felling into the trap of partition by emotionally reacting on propaganda against India. And yes this fact has now been fairly established with several examples from history.
@@rishabhkumardwivedi Dont talk non sense. The people of Pakistan opted for a separate homeland through majority vote of Muslims under separate electorate system. He was a commissioned officer who blatantly violated his oath & broke his honour & trust by siding with enemy.
If he is a traitor, Pakistani soldiers are murderers and rapists. Sajjad is loyal to his ethnicity.
An unjust nation cut in half.. Cope
@@yasho. best comment. Love from Bangladesh 💖🇧🇩
If you are not a Punjabi in Pakistan, they will discriminate against you. Not because of Punjabis ppakistanis are bad folks. It is because the resources available to punjabis are meager!!! That is the reason.
Hindus propaganda can never be surpassed Bagal Mein Chori Munh Mein Ram Ram
Nonsense since creation of Pakistan till 1971 only one Punjabi prime minister and not single Punjabi army chief
7 Bangali prime ministers and 2 presidents ruled in untied Pakistan
Hats off col sajjad.hope to meet you one day
He remains a traitor for the country he had taken an oath to serve...
Well thats true. From the perspective of a Pakistani like you. But for us Indians he was our guy.
Traitor are those who killed the civilian pepoles.Traitor are those who not take over the power to the elected party & Allah is always with them who have Iman. That's why we are independent.
What is the interviwer name?
I am glad Col Sajjad is able to see Bangladesh as a free country, great story of courage and determination.
See brother of Mir Sadiq and Mir jaffar
A moving story indeed! God bless!
What a sweet and humble guy. Very proud of our freedom fighters 💖❤️
India stands with Bangladesh.
Interview of
An indian officer who was
Trained in PAKISTAN,
&
Served in Bangladesh.
Hero for one coubtry but traitors for another.
@emu mukti Becareful, now his DNA is made like this so he can betray again.
Who cares about bhi khari opinion
He is behaving like hero. But he is actually a traitor of his time.
he protest against genocide, aagainst rape,& to do such he became a traitor to u.how wonderful ur thinking is!so in ur eyes who commited genocide &rape what will be the title of them?pig, hyenas?or they r innocent bcz they r muslims?is our holy script teaches us this kind of thinking??no its not.its the evil thinking of man like u.
Well times changed bich
Salute to you sir . May I know where about in Bangladesh are you from
He is a real hero
He is a real traitor
Ufffffff... Brilliant interview sir ♥ ♥ ♥
Hats off to u sir, did a great job, god bless u.
When will u do interview of Abhinandan ??
May rest your soul in JAHNAM for ever.
50 years have passed and people like Colonel Sajjad are still milking anti Pakistan sentiment of Indians by churning out such self claimed heroics. Let's hope someday Karan gets Abhi Nandan also online who narrates how he shot down an F16 without firing anything :) Interesting times
Do you feel confident about your statement ?
Yes that is how 50th anniversaries work lol. In 1997, India and Pakistan remembered their founding struggles.
You keep that tea cup in the museum & charge a ticket for that..GDP sudhar jayegi
This is an Indian channel. What is a Pakistani like you doing here in the 1st place if such things hurt you so much?
Nobody in hospital took off his shoes and checked the documents,,, how?
What an interview and what a story of col. Sajjad. Thanks Karan for bringing such beautiful interviews to us. Col. Sajjad hats off to that 20 yr old boy...
This is truly great - he should be the PM of Bangladesh
Traitors of one side are heroes to others ... Before him Muslim ummah had Mir Jafar , Mir Sadiq etc
Mir Jafar served as the commander of the Bengali army under Siraj ud-Daulah, the Nawab of Bengal, but betrayed him during the Battle of Plassey and succeeded Daulah after the British victory in 1757. Mir Jafar received military support from the East India Company furthering British victory
Mir Sadiq held the post of a minister in the cabinet of Tipu Sultan of Mysore. In the Fourth Anglo-Mysore War in 1798-99, he allegedly betrayed Tipu Sultan during the Siege of Srirangapatana, paving the way for a British victory
Fast Forward names have changed but characters remain the same and paved the way for Indian victory and creation of Bangla Desh
Cope, seethe, whine.
Just as Lanka had Ravan's brother Vibheeshan.
@@dams0001 vibheeshan stood for the truth and justice
So, Multi-bahanis were India’s mujahideen and got training from Indian Army.
Very interesting. Thanks to Col. Sajjad for sharing his experiences with all of us and doing his part in liberating his people in very trying times. However, I do not believe someone as junior as him would have possessed any strategically vital/useful information to the Indian army.
Colonel is not a small rank!
He duped Indian Army or they just want to find a hero to give him an award he graduated 3 months before the war starts everything he claimed to start was already well underway he is lying to his teeth
Agree with Native. I graduated from PMA in early 1972. No Lieutenant is privy to strategic, high level information. I am glad he made it across. East Pakistanis were never treated well by the West Pakistanis.
@@jamilmalik6296 seems like is is your fellow what is your point on his stand?
was situation that much worst for bengali officers?
and is it true that 40+ of army officers who were bengalis were killed ?
thanks
Why not ? It was/is possible to have/know about valueable documents even by soldier; what to talk about an officer.
