    I just bought a 2020 Mazda3 GT Hatchback AWD, in Polymetal Grey with the red leather interior. This is a beautiful, smooth and quiet car with an amazing interior. I traded in my 2015 Mazda3 hatchback for this one. I can't believe how refined this vehicle is. The Bose sound system blows away the one in my previous car. If you're thinking of buying this car, do it, you'll love driving it!

      I’ve narrowed down my choice to the Mazda3 HB AWD 2021. Is the blind spot a problem when switching lanes? I know you have automatic vehicle detection but what will it be like to change lanes if/when the system fails and you have to rely on rear view mirrors?

    • @dwnshft

      Awesome Life the blind spot issue is more when backing the car but yes it will impede vision when changing lanes too

    All good cars when new, but I wonder which will prove most reliable over 5 & 10 years and at what repair costs. I lean toward the Mazda as being more desirable when new, but Toyotas long term reliability record is pretty strong. And both still come with 3 pedals as an option, so that's a win either way.

    • @boratb258
      @boratb258 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Toyotas are not that reliable... it's just that boring people drive them. And they attract the kind of people whontake care of cars...

    There's no question that the Mazda3 is the "sportier" contender here. And if that's a consumer's single greatest priority the Mazda is a clear choice. But Toyota knows its market and that's why it's the largest independent manufacturer on the planet and Mazda is the smallest. A difference between 30 and 34 mpgs may not be significant for some but saving $200 or more per year has an impact on many people's budgets. The relatively cramped back seat of the Mazda3 may be irrelevant to those who never use it but to those who regularly transport 3 or 4 passengers that's important, too.
    The Mazda3 is a fine automobile and of the two it's certainly the one I'd choose if I were in the market. But those who hope for a return to "zoom zoom" design are almost certain to be disappointed. Mazda is firmly committed to a strategy that emphasizes affordable near luxury vehicles and they're unlikely to confuse that message. As for Toyota, they avoid selling ANY vehicle that doesn't turn a profit on its own. So the largely cosmetic "sportiness" or the Corolla XSE is all they're likely to offer.

      This is pretty spot on. I mean I liked the video in general, I think its well made and informative, but I got the impression it somewhat misses the point about who these cars are made for. This is also probably true for like 99% of the car reviewers nowadays. Like "Oh no new Corolla doesn't have turbo! It sucks!".
      The typical person buying a Corolla does not drive their Corolla on a race track. Typically they drive it on a normal city pavement, often with a bunch of pot holes. It'd be really great to know how they compare in day-to-day driving, how's the road/wind noise like. Like how many times do I in my daily driving get to drive fast enough to experience understeer in a curve? Maybe once in few months when there's not a lot of traffic (or now during a pandemic). On the other hand, if I am buying a car either with cash or financing, I'd buy it from a brand that has a fairly good history of producing reliable, long lasting cars. Even if it has somewhat less hp and produces less torque. There are other (minor?) things to consider that can all add up... such as Toyotas come bundled with a 2 year Toyota care maintenance plan, whereas I believe Mazdas do not.
      For what its worth when it comes to "sportiness", Corolla can be bought with a manual transmission at a lower trim, while I think Mazda 3 only in the premium trim.
      Corolla, and Civic for that matter, have such huge market so each time something breaks, especially if its a common thing, you can just google it and often there's even a TH-cam guide with a simple fix for minor things. So it also takes little gooling to find about new Civics issue with oil dilution, potential higher long terms expenses due to having a turbocharger etc.
      On top of that, Mazda 3 Sedans where I am buying (Cali) are all made (assembled) in Mexico (Corolla sedans are from the US), hatchbacks are Japan but those have an unfortunate thing of having that gianormous blind spot. Are they equally well made as US/Japanese, worse, I don't know. But that uncertainty devalues the car in the similar way 0 maitenance records devalue a used car. You don't really know how it will fare long term.

    • @NomadicBristolview
      @NomadicBristolview 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The Mazda reviewed here was the AWD option, while the Toyota was FWD. It would've been better to compare FWD options for both (my opinion anyway) as the FWD Mazda3 in Auto or Manual both get better gas mileage than the AWD. The Toyota is still better, but the difference is smaller.

    If you're not going hybrid it's not even worth considering Toyota. For the same price Mazda offers a much more premium feel, a bit more power & just a more fun car to drive. If you factor in hybrid systems, Toyota really manage to close the gap with vastly improved fuel economy, but you're not getting a "sporty" car.

      As an elder millennial (37) I'll point you towards "the Topher" TH-cam channel.
      Not sure of his age but very straightforward "this is what I like / not" and shows how it drives under aggressive driving & regular driving (I believe he got the corolla up to 100mph just goofing around on a on ramp). But he emphasizes daily liveable stuff vs all performance. Plus this guy is driving an auto or CVT which is never sporty.
