Wow, great yield. I’m about to plant sweet potatoes in my No dig garden here in Perth, Australia. Fortunately, frost is never an issue for us. I do have a question…why did you put that big arse slug back in the soil? I’d have given it to my chickens, or treated them with Treadonem…they munch on my veggies.

Thank you for the kind words. The slugs in our area only seem to bother plants that are diseased, stressed, etc. Thankfully they don't mess with healthy plants. Good luck with the planting!

2 or 3 passes with a bush hog works perfectly leaving no vines and leaves to deal with afterward. After digging your sweet potatoes till all the residue in to begin rebuilding the soil.

2022 was the first year I planted sweet potatoes, very disappointed. They were beautiful, but different story underground. Between bug holes that I believe was caused by either snails or pillbugs and gophers gnawing on the taters I got very few keepers. I'm going to try containers this year and hope for a good crop.
I'm in 9a Texas. DeWitt County.

next year, my small first try garden will grow sweet potatoes to balance out my bitter turnip greens. i like the taste of sweet potatoes. more peppers as well next year -- jalapenos were/are wonderful!!!!!!!!!! Green tomatoes are good also.

Did you till the soil before planting? It looks nice and loose.

Great question. We use "no till" gardening here on our farm.

The trick is that you cut them in the main trunk or root then pull backward. In that direction it will easier for you guys to pull it off all the way

Thanks for your video and the new trick. For those that have sheep, Justin Rhodes ((YT) put his Premier fencing around his sweet potato garden, moved his sheep in and in a few days the sheep ate all the vines down to the ground! I bet you're at the Warren County Virginia Fairgrounds today and tomorrow for the Homesteaders of America Conference. I'm looking forward to seeing your video of it this year!

Thanks for the kind words. We are not going to HOA this year unfortunately. It is probably for the best as we are working to get plastic back on the green houses for possible frost Sunday morning. Cheers!

@@thehillbillyfarmers Oh my! Frost times are ahead for sure. Summer ended so early this year, it was cool the last two weeks of August. All the best covering your greenhouses, thanks for your reply. Cheers!
