    Good to see a spark on TH-cam who uses his own common sense when it comes to the regs unlike other TH-cam sparks that think the more regs the better. The job in my opinion is under paid considering the amount of regs we need to learn and the liability that comes with them should something go wrong.

      Regs are here to help electricians the main problem occurs when people mod understand them or can’t work out the reason behind them

    Some ES27 lamp holders the outer rings aren’t actually connected to the neutral terminal the connection point is further into the lamp holder and only engages when you fully screw the lamp in.
    Most commercial installs it’s the mechanical protection and it’s the length of runs to reduce your ZS readings as runs can be quite a distance. T&E is pants for long runs and C Type breakers

    • @Ragnar8504
      @Ragnar8504 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Actually any ES lamp holders produced after something like 1960 should be like that. At least on the continent, the style of lamp holder gives you a nice idea of the age of some vintage fitting. Pre-1900 is snap-fit brass holder, pre-1920 is screw-fit brass with small porcelain collar, 1930s and 50s is screw-fit brass without collar and permanently connected screw thread or (rarely) Bakelite with permanently connected thread. Anything later has isolated threads. The late 80s/early 90s saw the first thermoplastic holders, some with push-in terminals.
      I suppose the main disadvantage of T&E on long runs is the reduced-size CPC, other than that i can't see any difference in the electrical characteristics.

    Tips and tricks in any aspect of the work is why I watch Tom. Also New tools and kit/fittings/tech that i dont know about is always good to see. Good to see how people design the install as its the most important bit, being new its also not always easy to get right.

    RE: Raised floors & armored. It's a rodent highway under those things. I've seen a raised floor platform go live because a rat chewed T&E, which then got pulled on by an IT tech to plug something into a socket under the floor, it contacted the frame of the floor and several people took a nasty shock. Even though RCD protection may be present, the armored is still a better plan under commercial floors. It's also good for RF shielding, since you never quite know how the space may change use after you've left the job.

    • @DaddyBear3000
      @DaddyBear3000 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      crashk6 definitely agree. I’ve had a few partial rewire jobs because of rats having a chomp on wires.

    • @effervescence5664
      @effervescence5664 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I judge it on a site by site basis, if there's signed of rats it ends up in armored or metal trunking & singles. However if I am a few stories up in a server room and it's all fire sealed it can just be T&E, it's just a case of picking choosing the most suitable thing for the situation.

    • @Ragnar8504
      @Ragnar8504 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Truth is, armoured in buildings is really only done on the British Isles. Everywhere else, the only folks using armoured are suppliers, underground and usually 35 mm and up. So yes, maybe it's an improvement in some instances but I don't think it's worth the effort.

    Hi Thomas, regarding MK not making any more Fuse Boards or Consumer Units, My son works for Honeywell, the American parent company of MK, he is an engineer in charge of the industrial robot maintenance. Production in the North Wales factory at St. Asaph is to stop at the end of this year, and the factory is to close so get as many MK boxes as you can.

    Not a fan of T&E under a false floor. As an apprentice I took up a false metal floor tile and the lifter slipped off the tile and the tile went right through the T&E. Nice big flash and crack and took out half the office! Very red faced apprentice! Then had to replace the T&E as well as the work I was supposed to be doing. Armoured under false floor tiles all the way for me! Still remember that day 30 years on😩

    I only ever give an estimate, my terms of sale clearly specify rooms should be clear and time spent moving stuff is chargeable. Also covers stuff like not being liable if anything gets damaged when we move stuff.
