      Watching Laura shovel snow from ATL is super great! We thought we might get a couple flakes on Tuesday, but it never happened. Ha, kids were out of school just in case though. That always happens...they cancel everything and then....nothing. When they don't cancel, we all get stuck.

    Thank you for not laying music over the video of Laura shoveling snow. I love the sounds of the snow being lifted on the shovel, of the shovel scraping the brick, and the soft powdery snow falling from the shovel onto other snow. The entire sequence was calming, even meditative, and I love it! Thank you for helping us all see the beauty in our everyday tasks and surroundings.

      With so much of their driveway having pea gravel, I suspect it doesn't make sense to plow much. That has to be hard to clear. Our driveway is concrete and we used to have an asphalt one. They were much easier to shovel down to the bare surface. Details people never think of if they don't live where it snows much. 😱🥶

    • @Joy-oz4mg
      @Joy-oz4mg 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

    Heated sidewalk is exactly where my mind was going! In our area (western NY) there are some people with really challenging, steep driveways, that heat the whole driveway. They pour concrete with heating elements in it. In certain situations it is almost a necessity. In your case, the main walkway you use every day would be such a luxury. Love how Russell found the path to the studio so quickly!

    The kowhai is a native New Zealand bush/ tree.
    They have the most beautiful yellow flowers and the tuis ( birds) love collecting the nectar.
    Looks like you have a dwarf variety. They are quite delicate to begin with, but once they bush out, they are rewarding. You can collect the seed after they flower and propagate more plants.
    Probably best to keep indoors and water regularly.

    Enjoy the heightened winter interest from the snow. Northern Michigan (snowy!), I highly recommend the Garant Poly Sleigh shovel, no lifting, just scoop and push/pull the snow off . It’s been a back saver for me, on flat surfaces like pathways and deck. It’s a great gift, too, from Ace Hardware.

      @barbaramccann7944 thank you for sharing! I just Googled the shovel you recommended, definitely something I need for myself here in Michigan!

      @@allison471 I’m just northwest of Traverse City and use it daily, but I’ve given at least 5 as gifts to family and friends (sometimes I have a $10 coupon from ACE). Even my son in Southfield mentioned how helpful it was, in addition to the snowblower, this past weekend. Only downside it I can’t use it on my Trex Deck, but I’ve wrapped the metal blade on an older one in about 8 layers of duct tap (and labeled “deck use only”) so I don’t scratch the surface. It works!

      I just looked that up and if you have a bad back one still has to lift it dump the snow off?

    • @barbaramccann7944
      @barbaramccann7944 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@LULC0759 I do not lift, instead I use a push/pull method to release the snow. There are quite a few TH-cam videos demonstrating how to use it, with different techniques, which might be helpful.

    A small snowblower so Aaron can help would be a good thing😂. In the northeast, I started using a heavy duty leaf blower on pathways and my wrap around porch when we’ve had dryer snow, it will get you down to pavement in a hurry and be less treacherous for all and is fast. As long as you don’t let it build up more than a couple of inches it works great.

    Did you know instead of sand ,which means a clean up job on the spring, you can use urea and it works like salt or sand but actually fertilizes the ground or garden where it's thrown.

      I’m in Florida also. Fortunately freezing weather is unusual for us although that bad freeze last winter killed many of my plants. 😩 It’s freezing and below here for the next few days so my husband said we’re covered in 3 inches of COLD! Haha! I love seeing the snow elsewhere but am glad it’s not in my yard!

    An alternative to piñata during bday parties here in the Philippines is what we call "pabitin". It's a tagalog word meaning hanging. It's a square piece of lattice with different toys, chips or sweets hanging. The lattice is attached to a pulley and the kids are gathered underneath the "pabitin" and they either jump to get the goodies or wait for the lattice to be lowered to snatch them. Much safer than a dizzy kid wielding a stick 😅. Hope Benjamin had a fun birthday and I always enjoy cleaning videos 😊
