  • To celebrate diversity in the world we asked 67 people from all over the world to take a DNA test. It turns out that they have much more in common with other nationalities than they would ever have imagined. In this short film, you can join Yanina on her surprising journey into who she really is.
Let’s Open Our World is an invitation to travel across boundaries, embrace our differences and open our world.
momondo believes that everybody should be able to travel the world, to meet other people, and experience other cultures and religions. Travel opens our minds: when we experience something different, we begin to see things differently.

      Narrated Abu Hurairah:
that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: "People should stop boasting about their fathers who have died, while they are but coals of Hell, or they will be more humiliated with Allah than the dung beetle who rolls dung with his nose. Indeed Allah has removed the pride of Jahiliyyah from you, and its boasting about lineage. [Indeed a person is either] a pious believer, or a miserable sinner. And people are all the children of Adam, and Adam was [created] from dust."

Well, plot twist, actors are PEOPLE! I don't understand why anyone is like, "Oh they are actors!" Perhaps they did get actors because they know how to handle themselves in public and in front of a camera, but check out HUGE a-list actors getting their results and they are taken aback to. So just because you're an actor by trade, doesn't mean your emotions are fake. Huge difference between selecting actors for quality of a video and "scripting" a reaction. I don't believe these are scripted. I have been able to relate to a lot of the emotional ones when others simply go, "Why are they crying???" I get it. They don't. So, for me, I see real genuine emotion, nervousness...

Her face looks mixed, like some sort of siberian asian hides there. She reminds me of inuit-european mixed faces I've seen.
After 3-4 generations most of the people don't know anything about their ancestors.
Also, our genes are not written within our birth certificate (yet)
If she would find russian names in the family history, some of her ancestors could be from central asian origin (i.e. tatar) or eastern siberian (nanai/ yakut or chukchi etc.) origin

And yes, the European kingdoms back in the colonial era took many indigenous people from the Americas to Europe. And some of them might have spread even to Russia. @@chandaramony2939 The percentages they give to China/Japan are separated from the one from Native America. Eastern Asian people and Native America are indeed genetically very close, but they have at leats 25 thousand years of separation, so when they show Native Americans in these tests, they really mean it. As I said, since the begining of the colonization of the Americas, many native people were sent or went to Europe for various reasons. So it is just reasonable that we could find a minority of Europeans that actually have some Indigenous American DNA.

This is so interesting. I am from a north Indian muslim background and a few years ago my sister did a dna test for fun. We know from our paternal family history that one of our ancestors traveled from what is now Uzbekistan to India and settled there. We knew she would therefore get central asian going back 8-10generations or so. From looking at our family you can not see that. We look indian, and my sister's dna result showed her with almost 90% from the Indian subcontinent, and her test results also confirmed oral family history to central asia. What took us all by utter surprise though was going back even beyond oral history cause she also got a tiny native american and yakuts percentage going back in time. That means there was a lot of human activity across the Bering Strait before it was submerged in water. I don't know how common it is to find native american ancestry in someone from India from that far back, but for our family it was very interesting. We were not expecting that.

The "native american" dna doesn't come directly from the american continents. It comes from reindeer herding people across the Bering straight. It's common for central asian people to have mixed ancestry.

Haplogroup N has a wide geographic distribution throughout northern Eurasia, and it also has been observed occasionally in other areas, including Southeast Asia, the Pacific, Southwest Asia and Southern Europe. Its highest frequency occurs among the Finnic and Baltic peoples of northern Europe, the Ob-Ugric and Northern Samoyedic peoples of western Siberia, and the Siberian Turkic-speaking Yakuts. Her 17% share of Finnish/Northern Russia isn't surprise at all. Nor her common ancestries with Native Americans.

If the place that you're from is essentially determined by where you're born, how are they getting all this from DNA? Like if a 6th generation 'Indian' child is born in England, in my opinion they're English, otherwise how many generations does it take to determine where someone is from?

omg just yesterday i was studying articles about the ancient pre-columbian connection between the DNA of native Russians and Slavs with the indigenous population of America, and now i come across a video where a Russian woman has DNA of native Americans. This is insane, this connection needs to be studied.

The most know companies are 23andme, Ancestry DNA, My Heritage, Family Tree DNA, Living DNA, Circle DNA and there's some others too.
It costs about 90 to a 100 euros and if they have a promotion going on it can cost half of it.

    • @user-jr4kc6lu9q

      Where did you get tested?
The brand new company LivingDNA in England is trying to be as specific as possible - more specific than the AncestryDNA test used by Momondo. If you have any amount of ancestry from England, Wales, or Scotland LivingDNA might be useful.
