  • To celebrate diversity in the world we asked 67 people from all over the world to take a DNA test. It turns out that they have much more in common with other nationalities than they would ever have imagined. In this short film, you can join Aurelie on her amazing journey into who she really is.
    Let’s Open Our World is an invitation to travel across boundaries, embrace our differences and open our world.
    momondo believes that everybody should be able to travel the world, to meet other people, and experience other cultures and religions. Travel opens our minds: when we experience something different, we begin to see things differently.

    This result is not surprising for a person of French ancestry. The French are descended from several different groups of people, primarily the Gauls (Celtic), the Romans and the Franks (Germanic). Her "Great Britain" and "Ireland" percentages are probably from her Gaulish ancestry. They show up as GB/Ireland instead (Celtic), because there's no category for "Gaul." Her Italian and Greek are probably from the Romans.

    • @СтепанБеркутов

      @pericodelospalotes5738 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Before the results I knew very well she should have Italian (Roman) ancestry in some important percentage. In my country, Spain, it's the same. We all were Romans centuries ago, conquered Gauls, Celtiberians...

      And when it says “French” in the results, it means Norman and Frankish.

    • @CHALETARCADE
      @CHALETARCADE 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sykes2698 No exactly , it means gallic, Frankish, Breton, and Norman. From what we know, the Roman presence had little impact on Gallic DNA, and since Germanic tribes were also Celts, it was just adding eastern Celts to the indigenes western Celts. Big deal. Culture wise, the Romans had a very significant impact, much more than the Franks, who assimilated in a single generation. Smart fellows.

    • @leokidd93
      @leokidd93 7 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Dylan Mars It's fake. Notice how the English man's test results show 'France-Germany' but her results just show 'Germany'. Don't think that's just a coincidence. Wouldn't the same DNA test be based on the same format and population clusters. The message behind this is true and inspiring but the project and her results are fake

    • @markoe1652
      @markoe1652 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      +TheLeoKid It's not fake the tests simply don't test how French someone is. There is a 'French-German group', but it diminishes French ancestry and as such people with ancestry from Normandy, Brittany or south France are more similar to other groups than the 'French-German' group. The fact that Normans spread their genes into Great Britain doesn't help them either.

    • @leokidd93
      @leokidd93 7 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Marko E That doesn't make sense. Of course no DNA test, test how French you are but the fact is that the general region of France and Germany are always grouped together in most DNA test. Why? Because they're genetically related. Just because somebody scores Italian/Greece, doesn't mean they're both Italian and Greek, the 2 are just closely related so they're grouped together. The same test would be based on the same format and population clusters. It does not test specifically for German or French ancestry, they're grouped together. And I don't think it's a coincidence that she has no French and is mostly British and Italian, which is what she said she would like to be out of anything. Plus she's an actual actress, Aurelie Amblard.

    • @markoe1652
      @markoe1652 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +TheLeoKid That's the thing - they aren't grouped together because they are related with each other more than French are with British (according to autosolam gene clustering - French and British are more related), but because they decided it was convenient for them to do so. In order to test how French or how German someone is, it has to be a different test, because this one does not provide that answer.

    There's no French of course because just like all other countries they're a mix of different peoples...Put in the simplest words, the genetic makeup of an average French is the roman substratum+Germanic(Franks,Longobards and other Germanic tribes)+Gauls(Celts) and lots of other things in smaller percentages(again not particularly accurate because those peoples again had a bunch of different genetic influences) .How come people dont know the basic history of their countries? They should explain to these people that there is no French,no Ukrainian,no Russian,no Romanian,No Hungarian,no Egyptian,no Argentinian,no Dominican,no Cuban,etc...

    • @dominanoctis5727
      @dominanoctis5727 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      ethan intellekt most European peoples partially descend from Celtic tribes,directly or because of mixing with other peoples. For some it's a large portion while for others it's barely traces or even none at all... for example Croatia where I'm from was once home to celtic tribes among others and they didn't just disappear,they just mixed with all the incoming slavs and other peoples so Croatia does have a measurable celtic element.Croatia of course has a much smaller celtic element than for example britain,france,iberia,etc ...celtic doesn't mean British but British mainly means a specific grouping of celtic and pre-celtic, and that's where we encounter the problematic nomenclature.The thing is that these dna ancestry tests are actually very unreliable despite claiming to offer detailed information; we simply can't do that just yet for such a low price, as i already said, nomenclature is a problem as well...

    Not really very fashionable these tests online. No European country is racially pure, all Europeans share the same genes. The area atlantica Ireland, England, France, Spain, Portugal, share the R1b mostly oriented to the Celts, I can not understand how they can classify by country, it is unserious. All Europeans are mixed, we were all occupied by Celts, Goths, Iberians, etc ...

    I think many of the people commenting on here are missing the point. The point is that we are all more mixed racially and genetically than we could every imagine. The concept that we are any one race or nationality really has nothing to do with genetics and biology and everything to do with nationalism, social and cultural pressures and even to some extent commercialism. It would not hurt any of us to realize a little more that biologically all people are pretty much the same.Are these videos specifically selected and maybe even staged to sell a product .. possibly (maybe even probably). That does not minimize the underlying scientific fact that genetically we are all WAY more similar than we are different.

It makes me incredibly tearful because we have been so segregated and pushed away from each other because of politics and fabricated hate that's evolved into real hate and it wasn't even our fault to begin with. I know I will never see it in my lifetime, but I know one day, we will become a unit against the evil. Where there is evil, good shall rise up against it. ♥

Both of my parents are Mexican and I was born in the U.S. if I take a DNA test I’m not going to be mad or surprised when the results don’t say that I’m “Mexican”. There’s been a mixtures of people and races throughout history. I could be from the Iberian peninsula, Native American, and maybe even from the Arabian peninsula. Don’t be mad if you’re Brazilian, and the results don’t say “brazilian” 🙄

Carlos on these videos is model, Aurelie an actress. they still have DNA like anyone else but they also probably have more confidence in front of camera. They will also probably have been paid to do this and why not, it's ultimately promoting Momondo travel, not DNA.

    I don't like how this woman in some large way, dismissed/denied her entire French ancestry, just because she suddenly found out, after all the years of her life to date, that she's not carrying French DNA. Ok, so she's almost everything European but French, however, she shouldn't forget where she grew up & she shouldn't forget her beautiful culture. Her other family members may well still carry some French DNA anyway. As we only receive "half" our parents dna, it's very possible that her other immediate or extended family members, may well have inherited some French DNA. If they didn't, so be it, but STILL, do not suddenly "dismiss" that in which you were born into & grew up in. I am Irish/Scandinavian for the most part, but if my DNA results said otherwise, i would still love Ireland/Sweden & i wouldn't dismiss it by saying, i always wanted to be this that & the other & treat my country of birth & my long standing culture, as though it is nothing now! Anyway, being French & carrying French DNA, is something to be incredibly proud of! There is absolutely nothing wrong with French people, their culture or their DNA. French DNA is a mix of so many things anyway, for the most part. You have the Celtic influence in their, the Saxon, the Nordic/Normans, the Roman & other bits & pieces too. In fact, most original French inhabitants, arrived in France from Austria! Yes, Germanic Europe. I don't know why so many people bag the French, but it's a wonderful, beautiful, vibrant, classy & rich ethnicity & culture. The French people are a wonderful people, who possess an equally amazing culture & identity. They're a proud race & they're very protective of their culture/identity & so they should be. If i were French, i would be protective & very proud too. I'm only 3% French/German, but i wish i was so much more! Vive la France!! haha

Why wouldn't she be happy to discover she doesn't belong to a country that for her never felt like home? It's not a disrespect to France or her family, it's her feelings of belonging somewhere else - and she was right!
