    Ley Roy Selmon one of the best defensive ends who ever lived. Nice guy, very smart and well spoken. He was one of the last great football players who had a since of sportsmanship and fair play. He never tried to hurt someone. You certainly can’t say that about most contemporary athletes. It was an honor and privilege getting a chance to watch him play.

    Remember 1971 going to the old high school field in Eufaula oklahoma. First time I saw Lee Roy and Dewey Selmon. Lee roy was 16 just shy of his 17th birthday. A 255lb man. He could run like the wind amazing balance. For me the bomb was watching him play basketball! He could move like a backcourt player and explosive... as he could really leap. Oh nothing like seeing a 255lb tailback in 1971! His biggest legacy is the person he was...

He and a few of his buddies were taking in a few rounds of golf in my home town and I was one of the transport drivers taking him and his team to and from Kiawah Resort. I told him that my dad was a Sooner and he lit up like a Christmas tree..and I shook hands with him. One of his hands was bigger than both of my hands put side by side..it was like shaking hands with a catcher's mitt. Incredible. Nice, down to earth guy and a class act all the way.

    People are saying that Lee Roy Selmon isn't better than Reggie White as though they're comparing a practice squad player to White. Selmon was the defensive MVP of the league. Can anyone other than hardcore Bucs fans name other high-quality players on that defense? When Selmon was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995 he was only the 7th defensive end elected and the first in 13 years [NOTE: Howie Long, whom Ron Wolf mentioned, was #8] . The others before him played on successful, high-profile and/or big market teams (Robustelli, Marchetti, Ford, Deacon, Davis, Atkins). You've got the Monsters of the Midway and the Fearsome Foursome vs. ... the Creamsicles? Not exactly easy marketing. To be defensive MVP and be voted to 6 Pro Bowls in only 9 injury-shortened seasons is very impressive. Means that even though he wasn't in a great media market his peers in the trenches knew that he was a great player. And judging from the highlights he was a balanced DE who played the run very well, not a one-dimensional lineman who just mindlessly rushed upfield. No, he was not Reggie White, but no one else is either. Reggie is the valedictorian of DEs. Still very few can approach the excellence of the late, great Lee Roy Selmon.

    #98??? Lee Roy Selmon was one of the all time great defensive linemen. The only two I would pick in front of him would be Bob Lilly and Randy White.

    • @greensmithfootball10
      @greensmithfootball10 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's Ron wolf's personal opinion, if you look at it statistically selmon and white aren't even close white is far and away better by a long shot.

      I trust film and actual analysis over stats. And people like Ron Wolf over people like you.

      Lz V that’s an appeal to authority and personal analysis is personal

      No, it means that just assessing players by stats, particularly defensive players, is lazy.

    • @bobthornton9730
      @bobthornton9730 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lzv6990 Well it's saying that "well this guy says it so it must be true" without supporting evidence. now, if you said, "Hey i've seen some film and I agree, for instance look at the way he...." then there's nothing wrong with that. Remember that the guy is also biased lol. he's not a perfect person. he drafted him.
