Not only is he a HOF player he's a retired supreme court justice for the state of Minnesota which is truly remarkable this man really is a role model for any person and should always be remembered not just for his play but for his character.
This gave me chills. Someone who wants to make a difference in society and could care less about being remembered. Imagine if his mindset was instilled in those with power wealth and fame. What a superstar.
I mean, the man literally BUILT the HOF. THEN, he was a state Supreme Court Justice. And, ya know, in between, he was the most lethal DT in the history of the NFL. Nbd...sheesh! #RenaissanceMan
And the second was the greatest defensive player of all time. Where did LT rank on the list, I wonder? He (LT) probably deserves to be top five, but with these lists there's always an offense bias, and then a QB bias on top of that. Edit: I see LT was #3. I'm surprised. That sounds about right. But I do agree that #43 is probably too low for Page.
One thing people often forget about Alan Page was that, while finishing his career with the Chicago Bears, not only was he still one of the very best at his position, but he actually was a mentor for a number of players on what would be one of the most dominant defenses in NFL history, the Bears defense of the mid-80s. Among his teammates in Chicago in his final season (1981) were Steve McMichael, Dan Hampton, Otis Wilson, and a rookie middle linebacker by the name of Mike Singletary. All four of them were major contributors on the defense that dominated the 1985 playoffs, with Singletary as the undisputed leader on the field, and I have to think that having Page as a teammate could only have helped them understand the pro game a little quicker than they might have normally.
@@ochocincoo And Alan Page wasn't the only key player from those Vikings Super Bowl teams that they let go in 1978. They also let Ed White go that year, and all he did after the Vikings let him go was to play seven or eight more years in San Diego as part of the offensive line that helped Air Coryell become the greatest offense in NFL history at that time, and one that teams still copy from to this day.
One of the greatest players in NFL history, one of 2 defensive players ever to win league MVP, had football in perspective to life, went on to became a MN Supreme Court JUDGE, and now has as school named after him? That is how you win in life.
I constantly come back to this video and this man. In a league filled with incredible players and historical icons, I can’t find another that is more impressive and inspiring. I absolutely adore everything about Alan Page.
Pure class, nothing but integrity. I wrote to tons of NFL stars back when I was a kid in the 1970s. Most of them actually did write back, and sent autographed photos. Alan Page did too, but he also wrote me a very nice letter about staying in school and so on, and, if I recall correctly, I think he may have also sent me a brochure about the Supreme Court. One of my greatest regrets in life is that at some point when my parents moved my entire autograph collection was lost. Alas, I do still have the memories.
3:15 This kinda attitude is something everyone should realise. Yes of course, winning a super bowl is a massive achievement but so many players are basically ignored in the list of the greats just because they never won a super bowl. In Alan Page's words, 'It's just another football game' players shouldnt have their careers tainted just because they didn't win a championship when its a team game.....
If the Patriots do not win another Super Bowl and if Brady decides to retire at the end of the 2019 season, over the next 25 years there will only be 2 players from those Championship teams inducted into the HOF, Brady and Gronkowski. There motto emphasized "team" play
If you saw Alan Page play, you would know that he is one of the best to ever play. When he won MVP in 1971, I couldn't believe it because I thought that it was restricted to offensive players. He deserved it that year and was just as good in other years.
I was a fan of Page for a long time, but I never knew before watching this video that he actually helped to build the NFL Hall Of Fame. You learn something every day!!
He came from a family who valued education and never forgot where he came from. He was fiercely independent and marched to his own drummer. Truly a gifted athlete and human being on so many levels. He has helped many young people through his college scholarship fund, and other charities. You would think that being a college and pro football hall of famer would be the ultimate ceiling in one’s life. But for Page it was just merely a part of his life on his way to becoming a lawyer and a member of the Minnesota Supreme Court. He is the achiever that we should want ourselves and our children to be. When he says the Super Bowls were just another game and that life goes on, he believes that and he’s right..
Take note Millennials! #88 was the epitome of what's it like to be an athlete & Academic. No NFL player in the year 2017 can come even close to what Alan Page stands for. I've been a Viking fan now for 47 seasons. I have original Football Cards that would make my personal all time Viking players @ each position. "@ Defensive Tackle, #88: Alan Page" He will always be part of my all time Front Four....
49ers fan here! Minnesota, Hopefully you guys will bring it Home! For The Purple People Eaters including Page! Along with Tarkenton! Bring it home this year! SKOL!
Look at how fast this man got off the ball! Vikings have always had great DT's throughout their existence. 2 HOFamers, then guys like Pat and Kevin Williams with multiple pro bowl selections
Alan Page was born in Canton, Ohio, the home of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. That's just the beginning of his remarkable story. A defensive tackle being named MVP is never going to happen again . Ever.
Great to hear this piece from a kid all grown up who was in it from the beginning and still admires Alan P, the man not Alan P the athlete 👍🏼. Great story. ⚘🙏🏽⚘🙏🏽⚘
Mr. Page sounds like a better subject than most Hollywood biopics and I’ve never heard of him before today. MN Supreme Court judge and NFL MVP as a DT. He should be better Known no question
I went to a Los Angeles Rams vs Minnesota Vikings game on December 7th, 1969 and I got Alan Page's autograph after the game on the program. I still cherish that program. Roman Gabriel was the quarterback for the Rams and Merlin Olsen was a defensive guy. They were so popular back then that after the game they were taken by van so hey wouldn't be mobbed by autograph seekers.
Not only is he a HOF player he's a retired supreme court justice for the state of Minnesota which is truly remarkable this man really is a role model for any person and should always be remembered not just for his play but for his character.

Just because I'm a professional athlete doesn't make me special or better than others, AMEN!!! Love the belongings he has in his office, wow!
Love that about Alan Page. More professional athletes should follow his example and really all celebrities in general
He actually was on the Antiques Roadshow with one of his memorabilia and it was quite interesting and valuable.
I mean, the man literally BUILT the HOF. THEN, he was a state Supreme Court Justice. And, ya know, in between, he was the most lethal DT in the history of the NFL. Nbd...sheesh! #RenaissanceMan
quite a life for sure.
The first defender to ever win MVP and only one of two in history and he's only #43?
And the second was the greatest defensive player of all time. Where did LT rank on the list, I wonder? He (LT) probably deserves to be top five, but with these lists there's always an offense bias, and then a QB bias on top of that.
Edit: I see LT was #3. I'm surprised. That sounds about right. But I do agree that #43 is probably too low for Page.
That's what I was thinking, Tere... *ONLY #43!? GET OUTTA HERE!*
~~~~~~~
TorgoFraNorgo Taylor ranked #3 yes that is far too low for Paige #43!!!!!
is the other one LT?
Had the Vikings won a Super Bowl, he most likely been voted higher
alan page breaks any stereotype of a football player, awesome player too.
Alan was, is, and always will be a Class Act. Love you always Justice Page, sincerely, Dan, a die-hard Vikings fan.
cjs83172 your exactly right one of the best deals the bears ever got. Jim Finks picked him up mid season for 100 dollar waiver fee 👍
Damn right. He a warrior
Thank the Vikings for that
Along with Buddy Ryan. They were also together in Minnesota 1976-77.
Allan Page is PURE CLASS, PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now this is a role model for black men
mr zed Yes I agree
I agree
All men
*any man
A role model for all of humanity.
Those purple jerseys are just so iconic
shouldn’t they go back to them?
@@seanp3302 no because then they wouldn’t be iconic anymore
That is how you win in life.
There are schools in Arlen, Texas named after Roger Staubach and Tom Landry I-tell-you-what.
Mad respect for this man. He is a true American icon. He is a positive force and is an incredible person
Im in absolute awe of this man, and Ive never heard about him, truly accomplished on and off the field
This is a MAN that we all can aspire to be. What a true intellectual gentleman.
Very impressive man!!! Not just football player but Man!
Every time I get tempted to become complacent or arrogant, I look up people like Alan Page to remind myself 'there are giants living amongst us'.
I constantly come back to this video and this man. In a league filled with incredible players and historical icons, I can’t find another that is more impressive and inspiring. I absolutely adore everything about Alan Page.
This man belongs in the Top 10. He absolutely changed the game.
There are two defensive players to ever win MVP and Alan Page is one of them. Really not much more needs to be said.
Ah man that really sucks
Alan Page is the pinnacle of class and skill.
For real
You should listen to what Russell Wilson has to say, future GOAT QB in another 5+ years.
Well said
This segment and the Jim Otto Segment are by far the most inspirational clips I've seen on athletes and a Positive example on how to live life!
This guys is one of the greatest defensive lineman to ever play the game, he needs to be atleast top 20
he was simply one of the best athletes I've ever seen.
Man....Vikings have had so many legends and great personalities
Imagine building the hall of fame then being put in it
Incredible.
Alan Page should fill Scalia's spot on the supreme court.
Edward Young Yes he would make Great US SUPREME COURT JUDGE!!!!!!!!!!!
@Curious Scribe ridiculous.. Only right wingers say that kinda crap
Allen Page : A Class Act
He has become my favorite football player, just because I'm a athlete doesn't make me better than others. Amen!
One of the greatest Minnesotans ever. Not just in football but in all walks of life. I wish to meet him someday
I'm very proud of you!!! I have been and STILL IS a Vikings fan 50 years. SKOL Vikings!!!
He should be at least top 25.
I'd never heard of him before... very interesting segment. Sounds like a good guy.
Wow ! I'm starting a "Most inspiring" folder to review when needed . This Alan Pagevideo is going in there right now !
As a kid, I was an Oakland Raiders fan, but Alan Page was still one of my favorite players. I became a bigger fan of his after he left football.
he should get more credit no one knows him and hes one of the best DTs
Extremely impressive.
What a man.
This is a awesome story that needs to be put out thank you for this one
Alan Page never won a SB ring, but he is a winner in life.
Great Man - during the recent Super Bowl in Minnesota, he produced an exhibit on the ravages of Jim Crow.
Class and integrity.....the NFL could use more guys like him today!!!
The only Hall of Famer who actually helped build the place. Literally.
Wish today's athletes had his mind set,
Allan Page could have been the subject of the film "a beautiful mind"
His accomplishments on the Minnesota Supreme court will outlive us all.
Alan Page was my favorite player growing up. When he was awarded the MVP of the league in 1971, that for me said it all.
A man of character and distinction.
Goddam these old football music tracks give me chills.
Simply put ,A Man's ,Man .🎉🌺 Giving him his past due for a very long time flowers ,coming from a Steelers fan .
He also started in 215 consecutive games. In the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. Outside. You know, when football was really tough.
Back in the day, loved watching Alan Page and Carl Eller.
What a beast on the field. I wish I could have grown up watching him and the purple people eaters!
Beautifully edited . . . and touching. My older brother used to say only the best accolades for Page.
Back in the day when the Vikings were known as the Purple People Eaters.
Purple People Eaters lol?
What a blessed life. A NFL HoFer and a judge. What a life.
Did anyone realize that Alan page was inducted in Canton the same year as his number?
He's a good reminder that it's just a game.
“AP” great character and a MVP 🏈 along with a silent role model 💜
Yes someone who realizes more important things than just football game.
Respect. For both football and justice.
My father lived next door to Alan Page when he was born. He said Alan was such a beautiful baby.
That's such a sweet story of him as a kid getting an autograph from Alan Page lol
49ers fan here!
Minnesota, Hopefully you guys will bring it Home! For The Purple People Eaters including Page! Along with Tarkenton! Bring it home this year!
SKOL!
Heard a lot of stories of him, but didn’t expect him to be THAT humble.
Rare humble intellectual superstar athlete
The most humble man I have ever heard about
I had the only Vikings 88 replica jersey in Oklahoma when I was a kid from 1972-1979, I wore it everywhere.
Look at how fast this man got off the ball! Vikings have always had great DT's throughout their existence. 2 HOFamers, then guys like Pat and Kevin Williams with multiple pro bowl selections
I think of karl Eller too
Such a legend. And a great man
I was a huge Viking fan as a kid and Page was my hero
Allen Paige was truly one of the best defensive players ever!!! I'm a huge Vikings fan and Allen Paige was the shitznits!!!
One of my top 10 players of all time! A perfect example of being more influential after his NFL career ended.
Alan Page was born in Canton, Ohio, the home of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. That's just the beginning of his remarkable story. A defensive tackle being named MVP is never going to happen again . Ever.
In todays nfl, i have alan page playing middle linebacker.
Hes exactly around brian urlacher's height and size.
He also appears to have brian's speed.
Probably late to the party but wow, what a truly spectacular man.
Alan Page was the first black to attend the University of Notre Dame.
This statement is incorrect.
Jim Snowden was, not Page. Snowden came out in 1965, Page in 1967.
Lol no he wasnt
GREAT PLAYER GREAT MAN ! LOVE HIS FACE MASK. THOSE WERE KOOL !!
I used to see Alan running around Lake of the Isles in Minneapolis when I lived in the Uptown neighborhood.
This is amazing
Despite being a Miami Dolphins fan, I loved and enjoyed watching Alan Page in the 70's; as well as Carl Eller!!
wow, what a great man and athlete
Awesome dude
I HAD THE HONOR OF MEETING HIM TODAY
Arguably the best defensive tackle in the history of the NFL.
this was awesome
Here come da judge! Used to love football back then.
Much respect RN4L
This needs to be a movie
A LEGEND!!!! NO NEED TO SAY ANYMORE
This guy needs a movie
Born in Canton, helps build the HOF, enshrined there, becomes a judge at the Supreme Court of Minnesota. Crazy
What an impressive individual!
