Against the New Paganism

  • There’s been much discussion of how “wokeness,” for lack of a better term, operates as a form of civic religion for the political left. Less discussed, according to Jack Butler of National Review, is the emerging form or forms of paganism on the political right.
Most prominent among them is Costin Alamariu, a Romanian political-science Ph.D. from Yale, who goes by the moniker “Bronze Age Pervert.” Alamariu is the author of Bronze Age Mindset, which Butler describes as “an intentionally provocative, discursive, and ungrammatical “exhortation” outlining his thought.” In it, Alamariu laments the diminution of the authentic expression of masculinity and the masculine virtues, and the failures of political conservatism to preserve those virtues and whatever else is good about civil society. In ideas reminiscent of Frederich Nietzsche, Alamariu castigates the “bug men” or “human cockroaches” for their weakening of men and of society, and the need for a league of neo-ubermenches to rise up and reshape the world in their image.
Butler contents that, wild as this all sounds, we should take the Bronze Age phenomenon and the rising new paganism seriously.
Today, Eric Kohn talks with Jack Butler about the rise of this new paganism on the left and on the right, and how he contends that only a reinvigorated Christianity in the public square can adequately contend with these new “pretender faiths of our time.”

@@unitedfederalnations3761 yeah I think it's funny to take theories developed by a Soviet feminist anthropologist (Gimbutas) and build a right wing masculinist philosophy on them. Patriarchy wasn't invented by the Proto-Indo-Europeans and they didn't have to force it onto neolithic Europeans. Patriarchy probably developed as a natural result of agricultural life since farming necessitated land ownership, which in turn required increased violence to maintain and expand land ownership. Men being better at violence, and other qualities amenable to war, like group cohesion and discipline within a rigid hierarchy basically guaranteed that agriculture would lead to patriarchy. Similarly, patriarchy is in decline today because it is mostly unnecessary for the current economic reality, as generating wealth requires less physical strength than ever before and technology has changed warfare drastically. Of course men make better modern soldiers than women but the difference is nothing compared to when wars were fought with spears and slings.

Christianity isn't going to revive any time soon. It was a very useful social tool during the middle ages, and was only really kept around through the rise of early industrial capitalism due to the reformation which transposed bourgeois values onto it. Now that capitalism has morphed into a post-industrial financialized economic system it is kind of obsolete. The logic of christianity is useless to the tech and finance elite, whereas it was extremely useful to the feudal aristocracy and industrial bourgeoisie.

BAP just says that it's not an aim in itself or a true political act, without vitalism & real power it's just raising cattle for the enemy.
We de not own any institutions and land, being obsessed with just having kids is this feminine urge that we see in men nowadays. Communal living in harmony and avoiding conflict is not going to solve the true crisis, also whites will never make 6-7 kids in a prosperous society, we don't want to compete with nonwhites and their unnatural urges.

As a bad Catholic familiar with vitalism, Nietzsche, solar and Hyperborean spirituality, MGTOW, red-pill content, Jung, feminism in action, and (in ages past) weight training and bodybuilding, I will venture an opinion. Yes, this discussion is missing the mark. Men are turning to vitalism to affirm their masculinity, which has been domesticated by materialism, dismissed by feminism, and rendered obsolete through technology. They turn to the iconography of barbarians, Hyperborea, the Bronze Age, &c for the archetypes that speak to what has been suppressed by a feminine, atheistic modern West, where the woman alone must be provided for and safe, a goddess in her shrine surrounded by treasure and eunuchs. But just as a "strong and independent boss babe" eventually hears the siren song of her womb, so a young man knows that he must use his bodily strength in a fruitful way. But the future inhabitants of Valhalla are not thinking about bringing Heathenry to the Rotary Club. They want to know deeply and experientially that, as men, their lives matter. In the past, the Church offered what paganism did not: a moral purpose, value, and goal to every life. (See the story of Coife the pagan priest in the Venerable Bede.) If Christianity is to play a part now, she must provide a vision of the mature, fulfilled, realistic masculine, since we now live in a world that because of modern medicine does not need healing miracles, because of an industrial economy does not need prayers for bounty, and has no need of a moral code because everyone is "nice".

Kinda false dichotomy and straw man a bit here, aren’t you? Catholic is an answer to both Kierkegaard and pagan Costin. To be Catholic is to have been baptized in the trinitarian formula, and Kierkegaard’s leap of faith presumes a consciousness and will. Whereas, the sacrement of baptism counts if you are conscious or not.
