  • This is a small clip from an all-day seminar I gave on the theory and technology of Pyro-theology.
    Description:
Often Christianity is presented as a set of spiritual experiences, religious rituals and dogmatic affirmations that enable us to interpret our world, escape it or inscribe ourselves more fully into it. In contrast, this all-day event explores an explosive understanding of faith that is concerned with transforming it. A transformation that can mean liberation in our personal lives, as well as in our wider society.
This is a faith that expresses salvation as a form of engagement with the world; an engagement that is testified to in a life overflowing with love, passion and a joyous embrace of existence. A faith that demands we critique our most dearly held beliefs and make room for our deepest doubts.

Commenting on Pete's final point... Firstly, great talk; thank you! As a sober Alcoholic in AA , the 12 Steps is the Program of Action that enables me to accept the Grace that Mr. Rollins was describing. ✌️🙏⚡️

That i am accepted by God already and as I am is wonderful news. Somehow, I keep losing track of it and almost sneakily rejecting it. Oddly enough, it seems to be hard to accept that I am accepted.

Peter Rollins: There are ”religions that tend toward the 'pleasure principle' and those that tend toward the 'reality principle'. Neither of these will work..(because) we live in the in-between...in anxiety, uncertainty, doubt, nothingness...."
“Inauthenticity is the attempt to deny that we live in this world...the attempt to escape from this uncomfortable world into the 'pleasure principle’…”Give us the right answers’, ‘tell me the truth’ (or to escape into)…the ‘reality principle’ that life is meaningless...nihilism…(with neither choice being better than the other)”
“We use meditation on Wednesday night so that you can re-engage with the frenetic pursuit of consumerism and your job…
GRACE is weirdly this mechanism in which in a very stopping of something…(the stopping of denial, for example), YOU CAN BEGIN TO MAKE A CHANGE HAPPEN. ” 22:16.
This video...Well worth viewing and re-viewing and re-viewing... and serious reflection.. Thank you, Peter!

I guess that's what always bothered me with the whole, 'Believe in Christ and you will be whole', bit. It never seamed to line up with reality, and it terrified me.

Yes, the problem is when people say that, what they often mean is 'say you believe in Christ and I will be saved' because then they have helped spread the word of god which gets them into heaven. As a Christian, this does bother me quite a lot, but I'll say that believing in Christ is not shouting out loud that you believe in Christ and that he will malke you whole, in fact Jesus literally says not to do this in Matthew 6:5-14, that prayer is to be done for yourself not others. Believing in Christ is simply believing that in him you can find peace (not wholeness or perfection) with God and yourself and help bring peace to others, which is exactly what Peter says in the video as grace is accepting who you are and knowing that we are all at fault for our issues, only then can we solve them.
