      JARED! PLEASE can you do a video or any tips on these fixed angle sharpeners and why when I sharpen curved edge blades my tips always have a double edge. Even if I match the factory edge the tip seems to never match. Is this normal with using these sharpeners? Any tips? I was using the worksharp and now using this model and my first knife Protech sbr and the same problem. It really is visible when you get to a polish edge. The factory grind lines stands out. Thanks bro

    • @NeevesKnives
      @NeevesKnives  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@bamabladez thats normal, your edge bevel gets bigger because the edge gets thicker, in thicker areas your bevel will be larger. if you think its to big then just raise your angle the next time, also make sure you are acuratly getting the actual angle of the bevel not that its a big deal but you might be thinking your matching perfectily but really its lower than it needs to be. regardless its a normal thing i wouldnt worry about it unless its ridiculous, im going live at 730 central tonight if you wanna talk about it

    The TS Prof diamond stones, while not being the highest quality stones, are only $80 a set. I sharpen between 30 and 50 knives a week of various steels and I made two sets of the TS Prof stones last for about 9 months. I did add in a Jende 120 diamond plate for the heavy work when I started on my second set. I sharpen very few "super steel" blades and for those I use Shapton Glass.... So now I use a set of Atomas and at $240 are worth every single penny. One thing to be aware of with the TS Prof units are the knurled screws. If you use them a lot they need to be lubed. Aluminum on aluminum may "gall". I replaced all of mine on the K03 with stainless, having learned the hard way about galling.

      I bought the original WorkSharp with different stones. One problem with the WorkSharp is you can’t verify the angle you are sharpening at, there might be a way but I don’t know it. The original stone system is pathetic and really limits your sharpening ability until you buy after market system.

    This is a very nice system more lightweight than the original version and smaller jaws but you gotta love it. I definitely think it’s worth the money. I have a KME and that was best part of £490 or it might of been a little bit more I got £515 in my head. That’s the joy of paying our Uk VAT on anything that we get in from overseas. They also sell a large metal base for this system, but it's €80. So I would just buy a heavy wood cutting board drill some holes in it and put in some threaded barrels and some butterfly screws, so it could be removed easily. I read that these knife jaws only work up to 4-5mm thick blades and 40mm wide blades. Hopefully, they will make/or their other knife clamps are compatible. So people could sharpen larger fixed blades that often have a 6mm blade stock. But I will reach out to TsProf to see if they are compatible. Cause this seems like a very nice system, but if it can't sharpen my larger fixed blades I have to go with another one.

    Jerad I’ve always wanted a TSPROF but got confused by all the models. What’s the next one up from the Pioneer and is it just heavier? And worth the price? My sole concern with this system is the cost of the aftermarket stones you mention that I would want to get. I like that this is metal as well. I do think TSPROF would sell a lot more of their systems if they had a guide to models, features and costs so you could compare and contrast.
    By the way for securing tools like this I have an Inline Fabrication bench mounting setup for reloading presses, vises and other bench tools, and for about $25 you can have a solid steel custom plate made for this that will lock it into an existing Inline Fab bench plate either front to back or side to side, depending on your specifications. If it will completely lock in a cast iron press that weighs 40 lbs it will lock this in, and I have 6-8 of their mounting plates and bench docking plates that work very well.
    I already have a small electronic angle gauge for a table saw, so am set there.
    I’m really glad I waited on the WorkSharp and saw this vid, thanks! 👍

    can you please review the Wicked Edge sharpening system? It is the only sharpener Ive seen that is parallax-free, meaning that the angle of the stone relative to the knife does not change with the movement of the stone. Wicked Edge achieves this result by making the stone slide along the rod instead of making the rod move in and out of a support point.

    • @NeevesKnives
      @NeevesKnives  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The work sharp systems also move on a rod, I will try and get one on however I'm not sure I would recommend it over something like this, I'm pretty sure with that system you are limited to there stones I could be wrong. • @E.L.RipleyAtNostromo
      @E.L.RipleyAtNostromo ปีที่แล้ว

      The website showcases this Pioneer, an “OG Kadet” and the Pro at $800. The main differences between the Kadet and this is it will take up to 7mm thick blades (.276) vs. 5 mm / .200 for the Pioneer, and it has a heavier base. For that it’s $193 more.
      I do have a lot of larger knives, and kitchen knives, so might save another couple months and just go with the Kadet, but I need to read up more about both systems. Can’t justify the $ for the pro, and I already have a digital angle finder the pro comes with, which is way overpriced at $130.
      The Blitz is evidently just as compact as this one, if not smaller I don’t know, and they still list it but it only handles up to 4.5mm thick (.18) blades. I’ll bet you’re right and the Pioneer will phase it out.

    • @NeevesKnives
      @NeevesKnives  ปีที่แล้ว

      @E.L.RipleyAtNostromo the pro is great because of the geared adjust on the angle and the clamp options, however this system would work just fine for the majority of people. The 360 is great but I do recommend this probably a bit more honestly
