    Hi gang, its Brendan from Mini Mania. Today we're going to do something that we haven't done in a long time and that's going to be changing one of our xenon bulbs on our F56 here. So we've got your xenon headlights here on this particular car, if you're wondering whether or not you have Xenon's, if you look right over here on the big housing and see it says sae-bixenon and that's how you know you have your xenon headlights.
    Alright, so what we're going to do is it is our right front that's out, by the way if you're thinking you just touch the left front headlight no I didn't, I touched the right front headlight with my left hand. Remember, left and right on a car is as you're sitting behind the wheel of the car so if you're sitting behind the wheel of a car this is your right front so we're going to change the right front. 0
    The way we're going to do that it's very very simple. You have a wiring harness that feeds power to this and we're just going to remove our power and then you have a door here that has a simple clip and we're just going to open that up. It's got an o-ring to keep it sealed in order to remove it there are a couple of, there are a couple clips here that you need to press forward and bring towards the center, and let it pop out. So press in, move towards the center, let it pop out.
    Now here comes the tricky part, somebody who's done this in the past may have felt like they had to remove the entire thing in order to get the bulb out of the back. It's a tight fit that you can do it without removing it, you're just going to have to bring it out and you're going to have to twist it and you're going to have to be mindful of your electrical lead that goes to it so you can do it without removing it.
    But you're going to have to get it and you're just going to twist make sure to get your to get those clips out of the way sort of twist it in this direction and then be very careful that you don't break the bulb.
    Look inside to make sure once you've got everything cleared and again you have to steer it around both of the clips. But as you can, you can get it out without removing your entire housing and you don't want to do that. That's just too much work to replace one mold so check your orientation. Before you actually remove your bulb get your replacement, make sure that the orientation is the same, so we're just going to take that off. The new one is going to be clipped right in and then installation is just a reversal of the removal process. Be very careful to twist it and get it in there, and then once you've got it in again you need to sort of remove your clips around your securing clips give it a twist to make sure it's seated.
    Once it's seated, you just put your clips back in there's one there's two. I've got your cover, snap your cover back on, power and that's all there is to it.
    We're going to try to do a lot more of these “quick and dirty” videos for doing the little things that can sometimes be a chore if you've never seen it or done it yourself. So check back and we will do some more videos for you guys.

    Hi, thanks your video gave me the confidence to do some driveway mechanics. A slight remark in your video the metal woven cable attached to the connector is really short and you can't pull it out to make it longer.
    I remarked that the holder for the bulb on the right hand side could move, while that on the left was fixed the latter making the replacement more difficult your tips are welcome.

    i visited over 30 youtube tutorials and beleived that there was a better way. After doing it my way (Frank Sinatra music here), I found your quick and easy guidance which is spot-on mate. Not all H13 bulbs are the same and these are quite diffent than other H13 bulbs so your viewers should match up the image rather than spec when ordering. If you have any ideas on how to keep condensation out othe inside lense, that would be appreciated. The back snap panel doesnt have a rubber or weatherproof gasket and maybe why I keep buying lense cleaner refurb kits - pnly because its codensation coming into the light houing. Ill tape it up for now but would rather have a correct metod or seal.

      No, the wiring harness would be different. We currently don't have the Gen 3 replacements (including the LEDs) on our site yet - but we're working on it! We'll post another video soon with our Gen 3 F54 Clubman S and hopefully that will cover most of the Gen 3 applications for headlights.

    How do you know if your xenon bulb is burnt out or if it's another issue? one of my xenon lights in my mini recently stopped working and I'm getting the warning light. Can you tell by looking at the xenon bulb, like you can with other headlight bulbs that it's burnt out? As they are an expensive replacement, I'd prefer not to order new bulbs if I don't need to.

    • @minimania
      @minimania  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The easiest way is simply to swap the good bulb to the bad side. If the good bulb works there you know it's just a bad bulb on that side. If it doesn't light it could be the ballast or some other electrical issue. Make sure not to touch a hot bulb in the process - let them cool down first.

    Hi guys I have bi xenon headlamps on my r58 Cooper S but I don't have those spring clips
    How would I remove the bulbs. I tried twisting them a bit but there is no play , so I figure they're locked in place somehow . Is the assembly for adaptive lights different than regular bi xenon

    • @minimania
      @minimania  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmmm, not sure. Our Coupe is not currently here - I will check it when it is but I'm assuming it should be a similar swap. Just be careful when poking around the lamps/housings - xenons can dose out a lethal amount of voltage - disconnect power first - either at the battery or the headlamp before you go exploring.

    • @minimania
      @minimania  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, our R58 Coupe has the same standard Bi Xenon's as our R56 - so, I can't tell how the Adaptive lights would be different.

    You should mention how important it is to never remove the battery in these cars because it locks the footwell module. 1k bucks to fix. Very upsetting that a dead battery causes such an expensive problem. Should be a lifetime recall fix, but it's only 10 years 👎. Not a problem you want, trust me.

    My 2007 MINI Cooper S R56 has OEM Xenon. But the sticker on the housing doesn't say "SAE-BIXENON".. So I don't think that's the way to really tell that you have Xenon. I would suggest just opening the plastic cap on the back to check the type of bulb that's inside. Mine looks the same as yours. I've changed the bulb from stock 4500K to 6000K by the way when one bulb stopped working. I'm still not sure if I like it. It's white, very white.. O btw: I'm from Europe, my MINI is a European car. Maybe that makes a difference. But yours says "made in EU", so? hahah.. Everything else on the sticker is similar to yours.
    Great video by the way..
