    Hey Mike, this is probably the best tip ive gotten about my xlt. I have seen numerous videos of people down on the Lightning because of the range. ive had my truck for about a month and i was not impressed about the mileage coming in lower than advertised (normal mode). love the truck and was prepared to be tested on the range/charge front anyway. . as soon as i switched to sport the mi/kw jumped nearly a full mile! this is huge!!! i wonder how many people out there are like me and assumed sport mode was worse range without trying it. it took three of ur videos to get it thru my thick skull lol!! normal mode sucks! i love the semi one pedal that it employs. the gas pedal is surprisingly well calibrated to this mode!!! also i put the black f150 decals on my tailgate of my silver truck and couple of black stripes on door bottoms and the look is superb. all the lightnings ive seen so far have no decals at all. i will say that ive seen cpl videos where they changed software to brighten the front lite bar. it is rather dim. do you know anything about this?

    • @F150LightningMike
      @F150LightningMike  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      lol … that’s funny about getting it through your thick skull. Yeah when I first heard about it, it kind of sounded odd to me too, but I’ve used it for so long now I only use that mode unless I am doing test like the one in this video. I’m glad that I was able to help you. I’m not sure about any modifications to increase the brightness of the light bar, but it sounds like a cool idea.

    Good, informative videos Mike. Had my 23 lariat about a month, I’ll give sport mode a shot. Coming from a Tesla m3p, I’m still getting used to driving this huge beast. Keep the videos coming dude!

      Thank you for watching. Yeah driving this truck takes some getting used to. It’s pretty crazy thinking that you are driving a truck that will beat any average car including a mustang in a race.

      yes im coming from a pacifica and the biggest thing is the turn radius, to be expected, which is not impressive lol. the next biggest thing is when i get in the van after the truck i feel like im sitting in a gokart lol.

    Vid Topic Sugestions:
    - Real simple to figure out how
    much it costs to charge at home. Just use Ford Pass to get the kwh on your latest charge, then multiply by your utility rate.
    - Get a pretty good estimate of how far you can tow just by multiplying the size of your battery by the efficiency. For example 131 x 0.9 (for a big camper) = 117.9 miles. Not too much more complicated than mpg.

    Thank you for your videos and your channel just picked up a 24 lightning flash last night still learning about all the different modes. Definitely interested in one pedal driving. I have a swimming pool maintenance route so all my driving is around town stop and go so definitely looking for any advice that you might have. Thanks again.

      I’m a big fan of sport mode, but some people find that 1 pedal driving is easier if you drive around town a lot as you are suggesting. So I’m thinking that you will definitely enjoy one pedal driving for your route once you get used to it, which takes a few days. If you have a crew with you though you have to be careful not to give them whiplash ;-)
      Another price of advice is to turn off pro power onboard when you are not using it. The usb ports in the truck don’t use it. Only the 110v plugs.

    Great video, always looking for a way to increase range. I've only had my Twenty twenty three xlt lightning for 5 weeks. Thank you for putting This up on TH-cam. Any ideas on how to keep it in sport mode without having to always change it back every time you turn the truck off. Or not having to always press OK.To keep it in sport mode. Sometimes going to work thinking about what the day brings.I don't think about doing this all the time.
    And i'm back in normal mode. Thank you for your videos Mike!

      I’ve heard rumors only that it will come with a future update. So we will see. Maybe if enough of us write into Ford about it they might speed up the update a little bit. Until then pressing ok or going to the drive mode screen is what we have to do. :-(

    Nice comparison!! Just did my first DC charge on a trip and now I’ll have to try the Sport mode. Hey yell at Ford about the on board power. Can’t believe the default is “On” so it drains the battery for no reason. If I need to cook chili while I’m driving I’ll turn on the plugs. 😂🤣😎👍🏻

      Hey Mike,
      Off subject but wanted to get your opinion on the Max tow package ? If you have it is it worth it ? And if you don’t, would you get it next time? I’m looking at 2023 Lariat extended range, but it doesn’t have max tow. I occasionally pull a 8x20 trailer. Any thoughts appreciated.
      John

    • @F150LightningMike
      @F150LightningMike  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi John,
      Yes I have the max tow package. Do I think it’s worth it? I would say yes. And yes, I would get it again whenever I decide to get a new one.
      That being said if I was in your shoes, I would consider whether or not it’s truly necessary because of the discounts they are offering right now on the 2023s. All the max tow package is is extra cooling for the batteries so if you are not towing a bunch or for longer distances, it might not be necessary. So as long as you are getting a good price on an extended range battery, I would probably go for it. Again, as long as you are not towing longer distances on a regular basis, it should be fine. Based on the information you gave me it doesn’t seem like you are towing very much. So go for it.

    • @F150LightningMike
      @F150LightningMike  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Something else to consider is your location. The reason why I liked having the max tow package is I think the extra cooling helped when I was taking a long road trip last summer and temperatures were about 109°. In some parts of the US that I was driving through.
      But again for me, I would consider the discounts that they are offering people right now. Some people are getting about 25 grand off of MSRP and if that’s the case, I don’t think it’s worth it to spend that much more and get a 2024.
      My biggest recommendation for anyone is to definitely get the extended range battery no matter what trim level you get.

    Good video... I drive from WP to Peterson and back every day. I've had the truck (23 XLT) for a couple of weeks now. The first week, I used normal 1-pedal drive. The second week I used just sport mode. I got 2.4 both times... about 400 miles for each week. I did put a hard tonneau cover on after the first week. I'll do the next 400 or so miles with sport and 1 pedal....
    ...I'm trying to like one pedal, never liked it in my Mach-e. Much preferred unbridled which was a pretty good compromise. Sport in the Lightning isn't quite as aggressive as the Mach-e in terms of how quickly it slows when your foot is off the accelerator. 1 pedal just reminds me if the zamboni I drive in the winter up here.

    • @F150LightningMike
      @F150LightningMike  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you. Yeah it seems to me that sport mode is still the best in my experience, but if I was going to and from Woodland park every day I would keep trying the different modes to see what works best with your set up. I have a tonneau cover too but I got it so early on I’m not really sure what the impact on range is. I just drove a Mach e a couple of months ago and I think I’ll do it again and do another video about it because frankly it must’ve been a different design group coming up with the drive modes for the Mach e because they just seemed a little bit confusing to me the lightning just seems much simpler.

    • @trevor108
      @trevor108 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@F150LightningMike I agree, the Mach-e drive modes are much more extreme between Unbridled and Whisper. Unbridled without 1 pedal engaged is very similar to the Lightning with 1 pedal engaged. I do like the more conventional naming of the Modes in the Lightning. Keep the vids coming.

    • @F150LightningMike
      @F150LightningMike  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It’s worth a shot. I think I will get similar results though as far as sport mode winning, but all of the mi/kwh will probably be a little higher. Although I think the part that helped each of these test is going up and down the mountain. Winter average on that is about 2.7. Summer is 3.1

      Hey Amanda. Great to hear from you. Yeah 1 pedal drive is hard to get used to. I’m glad to hear from another sport mode fan. When I’ve done my other videos about sport mode I do have a few people calling foul on it and trying to say I don’t know what I’m talking about. But hey it works for me.
      As far as the results are concerned, yeah they were a little surprising for me too, except for the fact that it was a decent amount of in town driving along with the highway to balance it out a little bit. Along with that, though going back-and-forth from Woodland Park actually does help the range a little bit too.
      When I have gone from my house to Woodland Park and back only it’s an exactly 50 mile round-trip and it only uses 12-14% of the battery, depending on outside temp, which would interpret to 2.7 - 3.18 kWh/mi.
      The results that actually surprised me was, I was thinking that both of the one pedal drives would probably get the same results, but that didn’t happen.

    • @F150LightningMike
      @F150LightningMike  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The truck has sensors that will tigger the truck automatically brake for you. I believe the technology it uses is LIDAR, not sure on that though. But that’s only for emergency stop situations. If you are asking about what I talked about in this video of slowing down with regenerative braking that is done by you letting off the accelerator and the regen motor kicks in. Because the turning of the wheels are meeting the resistance of the motor then it gradually slows down the tires spinning. The amount of resistance the regen motors apply is based on what mode you are in. For instance 1 pedal drive uses the max amount of resistance so you rarely ever have to apply the brake. Hope that answers your question.

      @F150LightningMike I ask because I have a Hyundai Ioniq 5. Love this car, paddle shifters for regen (four levels 0 -3) plus eco, normal and sport. Adding a Flash to my little fleet of work trucks. The heat pump is a very important addition in the 24's for my climate.

      Looks like the Hyundai has more options. Yeah this truck just has the Normal as the closest to what you are looking for. There are 4 modes in total. Some of which you can use 1 pedal drive with.
      1) Normal (with and without 1 pedal drive)
      2) Sport (with and without 1 pedal drive)
