Haha, that's great to hear. Even though I have played since the game was on the browser, I still learn things here and there about statistics and figures every time I make these videos.
Few additional points: - Foundation also have a soft side (the top) - You can build bases with a bunker (path to entry is not only through doors, a wall/ceilling can be placed when you go off line
@@JfarrYT Great work, great video as always. It is hard to cover everything, and you have to put a limit to what goes in a single video. Thanks for all your posts.
I had to learn my building constructions the hard way after getting looted dozens of times. If players find a way to screw with you, they WILL do it. If you place even just 1 window in your building with a wooden frame, they'll climb it. Some of the mistakes I made that killed me: - not upgrading the foundation - not upgrading the roof - not making an airlock - using a wooden door - putting a wooden window on a 3 floor base
I have over 4k hours on this game and never knew about the TC showing the percentage and building blocks attached through the tooltip, thank you very much, you learn something new everyday
I'm really happy to hear you still got something out of this video. Even for me, I learnt a thing or two, especially seeing the charts for upkeep percentage increase was a surprise and new information.
I can’t build foundations correctly for some reason. When I place square foundations everything’s fine. Until I change to a triangle foundation or any other construction using the blueprint. I can’t attach the triangle foundation, kinda like it doesn’t recognize the already existing square foundation(s). When I switch back to square foundations it doesn’t let me attach it aswell! But building on the squares is no problem. What do I do? Anyone with the same problem or solution? Or is it in the settings? Rust is unplayable for me this way!
At 2:29 I show a chart for the decay rate of each building tier. As you upgrade your tiers they will survive longer without any upkeep. However, the figures shown are the hours it takes for the building to decay without any upkeep. If the tool cupboard has some materials still left in it, the decay would be delayed.
It is impressive how wildly comprehensible all of this is and how beneficial it is as an experience player to the game. I just finished an article on my own site about tool cupboards, and I still learned more from this than I did while researching myself. Hats off! 👌🏼
Note: double wood doors take a singular molotov cocktail to break, while a single wooden door takes 2 molotov’s. Keep this in mind when you are making a starter base with wood doors
Yeah, wtf is up with that? Many things don't "stack up" in this game. stacking for instance, you can only carry one keycard per slot, but 20 metal pipes. Makes no sense. One shirt, but 1000 cloth. But hey, Backpacks! Problem solved.
Good video bud, I’m an Aussie DayZ fanboy finally trying Rust and quite confused at the complexities of the game. Gonna be watching quite a few of your videos.
If you build TH-cam bases place tc somewhere else then shown in video, myself I started placing it below my shooting floor making it that much harder to get to.
I've been using fake doors to walls for a while now. My entrance is always on 2nd level but I always have at least 2 doors to nowhere on the first. It is definitely worthwhile.
Just got raided on my modded server while tryna vibe. I will be returning to build an absolute behemoth that’s not worth the raid, so I’m absorbing all possible teams
Ladder hatches actually get destroyed by explosives (especially rockets) through the door on the wall above it - so it usually will be destroyed for free by the raiders before they even are able to see that it’s there
A few other things that bear mentioning: Putting certain items in your tool cupboard will make the base automatically repair itself. For example, if you have a damaged workbench, putting scrap in your TC (in addition to other materials like frags and HQM) will gradually repair it over time. Another benefit of keeping your TC locked is that the base will "tax" 24 hours of upkeep in order to preserve itself for that period when the TC has been destroyed.
@@S1ipperyJim I've not seen that bear itself out in my wipes. If I don't put scrap in, my damaged workbenches have not repaired themselves. Not sure if there have been any changes along those lines.
Played my first wipe amd full server today. Doed like 30 times. Some gesrt wrenching. I didnt have enough wood whem building my first base because i built too big. My twig walls were shot down with arrows and they got all my stuff. I couldnt find anywhere good to buold so i chose to build next to another small base. I found the owner. Killed him with my bow. And took his gun. He came back yelling st me. So i felt bad and offered to be friendly nieghbors if i gave him back his gun. He was excited. Showed me how to build better. Gave me some stone to upgrade my walls. And now we have it pretty good.
Hey Jfarr, thank you for this recap ! I started rust in Jan21 and quit the game 3 months ago after gaining 8k hrs in this time. Your tutorials helped me so much in the beginning to understand and get better, they still are the best. Unfortunatly the game has changed so much I dont find the joy i used to. Old terrain, old recoil, .step60 and no techtree, no attack heli would make the game playable for me again. Thank you for your content! Keep up the good work ! 🤝
Pancake layers! They do so much for raid protection, essentially tripling the cost to raid top-down. You could even hide some loot in one or two of the sections
I love your videos!! They are soooooooooooo goood, the quality of montage is perfect and very much underrated. never write a comment but you deserve it
the best rust tutorial ever seen, people think that i bought rust and im supposed to know all keybindings in one day, an easy sub from me , ill check other videos too, keep up bro
I have a question if I make an armored bunker does the foundations also need to be armored or can they stay sheet metal. I think they can stay sheet cause even if a raider breaks one the attached walls don’t break and I place them low so they can’t get under but maybe I’m wrong. Just trying to save on some hq cause all my bases use a lot of it.
Yeah, if they are low enough they can't get through. Also need to consider that the top of foundations are soft side. So if you leave the outside foundation stone, they could pick through and blow up the inside foundation and if it's high enough, they can crawl through. However, if you have a tool cupboard or crates on the foundation, upgrade it. Otherwise, the bags will drop and they will likely be able to loot it.
@@JfarrYT ok thanks, that’s a good point about the box on the foundations falling if broken. I usually use 3 layers of metal honeycomb on the ground floor of my bases and only have entry on the top so I don’t think they will softsided me but now I’m worried that the loot will fall if foundation is broke so maybe I hqm them. I built a god bunker (the offset kind with stability added by twig door to seal) and the bunker bricked when I upgraded the upstairs walls to shipping container. There was a loud crash sound after I upgraded and my ceiling light disappeared and the bunker was bricked. I’ve used the same base before no problem do u know what happened. Thanks for replying

I really do appreciate that Double Door. I always get a gleeful smile on my face when I hear about how these videos help out the community, and especially yourself in this case :)
There isn't a way for the two TC's to be connected. If you keep the foundations connected before placing the TC, the primary TC's range will expand to cover the foundations. Therefore, it won't let you place down the external TC. If you place down the external TC before connecting the foundations, the building planner will go red and it won't let you link up the foundations back to the main base.
Thanks Jafarr, another brilliant guide! Always amazing to see how you manage to put all these accurate statistics together! Almost 3k hours here and still learn out of your work

Cool vid, can someone explain to me how some bases decay in a mater of hours and some tend to survive up to days IRL ? thx
It depends on the materials and how much health its got. wood will decay fairly fast but sheet metal will take ages to decay because of its health
At 2:29 I show a chart for the decay rate of each building tier. As you upgrade your tiers they will survive longer without any upkeep. If it's true that the radius expans when you place foundations why do all big clan bases have many tc's and how long is the radius in height?
