    Your video is the first one where I have actually learned how the tone with the VDI and target id work together to get an idea what's there. Love it shows the coin or circle in the 2d with both nails showing as present but only a tone in one direction. I currently have the Simplex plus, Legend, and Nox 800. I am trying to decide to buy the Manticore and let a couple of these others go. I been on the fence but this one direction tone and 2d target id I could use. I hunt very trashy sites. I think this could be to my advantage. Thanks for sharing this.

    This video of the Manticore is really a learning tool.
    You have mastered the 2d screen. Finding coins that visually start at the center coin line and then gets
    DRAGGED by iron into the ferrous regions.
    Looks like buying a Manticore will require an optional back hoe too.

    It sounded like the EMI coupled with fairly high sensitivity was messing with the signal a bit, making the audio and VDI a bit jumpy, but I run my Nox 800 the same way (and my Explorer before the Nox). Would have been nice to see how low you could have dropped the sensitivity before those deep signals were not discernible. Thanks for the live digs! No matter how long we’ve been detecting, we can all learn from live digs!👍🏼

    • @MetalDetectingNWGA
      @MetalDetectingNWGA  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Dan! Yeah man, you're probably right. I do tend to run my machines right on the edge of stability.. The Manticore seems like it goes plenty deep, even at lower sensitivity levels of around 23-24. Next time I'm out there, I'll try lowering the sensitivity to see how well it does on the deeper ones.

    Great video. I have a question I've been using the manticore for several weeks. Maybe I have 60 to 75 hours on it. The question is how many coins and or buttons/keepers have you dug up that did not read on the center line? I've been digging a lot of targets and 95% or more of the good targets at least have something touching the center line. But if I have good numbers and a soso tone and there's nothing really showing on the center line it seems to always be junk. I'm wondering what your thoughts are on this

    • @MetalDetectingNWGA
      @MetalDetectingNWGA  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey thanks basstrackerman! I replied over on the forum, but yeah seems like most if not all have been on the centerline or at least touching it. Having said that, I haven't really paid much attention. I will make a note of it on the next few hunts and see where they're plotting.

  • @kevinmccrory2347
    @kevinmccrory2347 ปีที่แล้ว

    After watching your video again I think I know what I was doing wrong. I noticed when there was silver in with the iron you was still getting a reading in the 70’s and 80’s and 2 targets on the screen. All my targets came in in the upper 90’s like 98. You had a spot where the target ID would jump around where silver should come in. Is that what was telling you there was a possible coin in with the iron?

    • @MetalDetectingNWGA
      @MetalDetectingNWGA  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I’ll generally see either two distinct dots building, or a smear running from the iron area into the coin range. A lot of it is just the audio nuance and feel. A coin mixed with iron is gonna hit more solid, and be more repeatable. Falsing is a more ghosty signal that just doesn’t act the same. The more you use the Manticore the easier it is to tell falsing from a good target. You’ll likely still get fooled occasionally, but not so much that it’s a problem. I’d say just put more time on the unit and I bet you get more and more comfortable with what’s a coin and what’s falsing.

      @@MetalDetectingNWGA I have a question I was watching your video again what did you mean you can tell by looking at the target trace when its elongated? On another dig you were saying something with this elongated line coming up from the bottom and said its trying to build something on the non ferrous line? It looks like allot of the coins you dug had elongated lines. And your last coin you thought it was a massive dime but ended up being a barber quarter. So the numbers that was masking it was dragging the numbers down as a quarter should have read higher right? Just trying to learn from your video.

    • @MetalDetectingNWGA
      @MetalDetectingNWGA  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Photostrated On the elongated comment, I was referring to the elongated trace coming down from the upper ferrous limits and connecting to another dot or trace on the non-ferrous line. To me, that seemed to indicate their was nails or some other iron in the hole, and the long line extending down and building a distinct dot on the non-ferrous line tells me theirs a good chance that a coin or some other good target is mixed in with the iron. A lot of times when its just falsing iron, you may get a streak running toward the non-ferrous line, but no dark traces or dots building on the line. More of a random smear. When there's a good target mixed in with iron, sometimes you can see a darker trace trying to build on the non-ferrous line, rather than just a random smear. Make sense? This isn't always the case, but just a little thing that I've picked up on. Yes, a lot of signals, especially deeper ones will show an elongated trace, even on a clean signal. I'm not sure the reason behind this, but I'm referring to the ones that trail down from the ferrous limits. As for the Barber quarter, yes I was expecting a dime based off of the numbers being mostly in the lower 80s. A quarter should read a little higher, but I suspect that one got drug down due to having the iron around it, as you said.

    The thing I'm not liking is the unstable VDI numbers, they are way too jumpy compared to a Nox 800. I seen a few people suggest using the Beach mode on land and it gives more stable IDs. Is this something you can try? Still waiting on my Manticore so I don't have a way to test. Great video and some nice old Silver!

    • @MetalDetectingNWGA
      @MetalDetectingNWGA  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Scorpio! The ID on the Manticore is very spread out. Having a spread ID has some benefits, but it also has some negatives. Being so spread out, you’ll notice more ID variation due to mineralization, and you’ll notice it’s a little less stable when compared to machines like the Deus 2, CTX or Etrac. So, it’s a tradeoff. On the Manticore, you’ll get a better spread to help separate detected targets, but you’ll need to do more mental averaging of the ID #’s to get a good idea of what’s under the coil. I will try beach mode next time I'm there. :)

    • @scorpio4236

      The CTX and Etrac will always be on my list of top favorite detectors. Just something special about that flutey sound and rock solid ID from FBS! Having said that, the speed, depth and weight offered by these newer detectors is definitely nice.

    When you used this machine, did this machine ever go bonkers when you turned your pin pointer on? I have a Nokta Simplex and my machine goes absolutely haywire when I turn on my Garrett Carrot.

    • @MetalDetectingNWGA
      @MetalDetectingNWGA  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi Dave. No, I didn't have any real issues with my Garrett Pinpointer, but I guess it would depend on which search mode is being used. I mostly used AT HC or ATG on my Manticore. What mode are you using when you have the EMI? Have you tried a manual noise cancel with the pinpointer on and nearby?

    • @dave3897
      @dave3897 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@MetalDetectingNWGA it gives me crazy inference on any mode. It’s just a Nokta thing. They have mute button I always hit before I turn my pin pointer on.
      If you don’t mind me asking, why did you sell your manticore? I’m looking to upgrade and I’m leaning toward a Equinox900. I know I’m missing deeper targets with my simplex.

      @@dave3897 I really liked the Manticore, but for my style of hunting, I prefer the XP Deus 2. I hunt in the woods a lot, so the lighter weight and maneuverability of the D2 is a big plus. I also find the audio more descriptive on the D2. Both great machines though.

    • @dave3897
      @dave3897 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@MetalDetectingNWGA that makes sense. I hunt more open spaces like fields and such. I was going to get the manticore but a lot of guys said the box 700 or 800 are almost as good. I’m more or less looking for better depth and ID accuracy.

    I’m curious, do you think a blind person could use the manticore? Thanks for sharing, take care and keep happy

    • @MetalDetectingNWGA
      @MetalDetectingNWGA  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey TBTH, that’s a tough question to answer without having experienced all of the challenges myself, but I’d say if a blind person has had success with other detectors, I think the Manticore could be just as good or maybe even better. It has lots of audio options which can be set up to give you a very good idea of depth and target conductivity. Pinpoint mode is easy to use and very accurate. If possible, I’d try to find someone locally who has one and maybe try one out before buying.

    • @MetalDetectingNWGA
      @MetalDetectingNWGA  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! I tend to run my sensitivity right on the edge of stability. Dropping it down a couple of notches would definitely quieten it down, and its still capable of good depth at lower levels.

    those are some massive plugs. Do them smaller in a horseshoe. Not a good look for the grass

    • @MetalDetectingNWGA
      @MetalDetectingNWGA  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The plugs are big because the soil there is very sandy, and larger plugs tend to go back in and hold together better. If you look at my other vids at different locations, you’ll see that the plug size is smaller/normal. Different conditions require different methods.
