A great real time test of these three highend detectors, they all performed very well .Thankyou 😀.
Thanks Russ!
Thanks for the vid! I’m a new Deus II owner but also interested in the Manticore. This comparison was helpful.
Glad you found it helpful, and thanks for watching! :)
One of the best comparison video's I've seen with the Manticore. I to am learning the Manticore and have only had it out once on a very polluted beach but managed to retrieve five pieces of silver and am very impressed with it so far. Happy hunting and best wishes from the Relic Reclaimers!
Thanks RR! Appreciate you watching and commenting. Good luck with your new Manticore! HH!
Good info! still happy with my Minelab 800 for now. Love that silver!!
Thanks! Nothing wrong with the Nox 800! Still a great machine!
Great video!! Very informative. My husband has the 9" on the D2, I have the 11"; and that is what we have found my 11" is just a little deeper. Thank you for sharing!
Thanks Bells! Seeing the extra depth and coverage from the 11”, I’m going to pick up an 11x13 soon.
@@MetalDetectingNWGA 11 x 13 will go deeper than 11“?. Thx!
@@yomismo5711 I don't have the 11x13, but a buddy does. He says its a little deeper than the 11", but not much. I tried out his 11x13 for a while and it was too heavy for me.
@@MetalDetectingNWGA Thx!
Can you change the sound on the deus? Obviously a personal choice but it's not as easy to listen to as the equinox, some fantastic digging though
Thanks and yessir, the Deus 2 has lots of audio options. One of them is called "square" which to me sounds almost exactly like the Equinox.
I love the sound of the Manticore & Love The lite weight of The Deus …..Both are great Detectors……….Thanks for sharing
I’m in the same boat Rob. I like certain things about both machines. We have a lot of great machines to choose from nowadays! Thanks for stopping by and HH.
Weight is no longer an issue with either minelab or Deus I’ll take the minelabs tones any day over any other detector
Great comparison guys. They're pretty neck and neck. I'd be happy to have either of them.
Thanks Matt! Yep, they seem pretty equal in the depth department coil for coil. If one is a little deeper, its not by much.
Good demonstration of two great machines!
Thanks Susan!
Great comparison video. I am waiting for a bit before I pull the trigger on one.
Thanks Matt! That's probably a good idea. I'm betting the un-advertised price will drop a little more once dealers have them on the shelves.
Awesome video, guys! Great unbiased comparison.
The Manticore looks like it’s gonna be a contender! Gotta start saving my nickels and dimes!! 😁
Thanks BigDawg! Appreciate the comment. HH!
What a great location! Thanks for the comparison, very good video. I have been using the D2 after being a long time nox user. So I had to buy the manticore but it’s hard to put down my Deus, so they will sharing time I guess.
Thanks! I love the D2 and have a feeling I'm going to get along with the Manticore too. They'll have to share time for sure.
Looks to me like there both great defectors, personally I have a deus 2 and still prefer it over the manticore , it's lighter wireless and I prefer the noises plus it has 5 years warranty , but it's personal choice
Clark, I ended up selling my Manticore and sticking with my Deus 2 for the reasons you mentioned. Both are indeed great. I just prefer the audio and ergonomics of the Deus 2.
Nice to see you back I bought the 900 because no Manticore is not available but I will upgrade to one soon the 900 is a excellent upgrade to the 800 I’ve hit spots the I’ve hammered with my 800 and pulled more that were badly masked with iron in with coins .
Hey Mark, I had already ordered a Manticore by the time I heard about the 700 & 900. Otherwise I may have just gotten one of those. From all the reports, they're very capable machines.
@@MetalDetectingNWGA yes it is a great detector I’m happy thanks keep up the finds! God bless

Nice job Brother. Most people have no idea the effort one has to put in to make these types of videos! I find it interesting the Deus was the one having issues on a couple iron targets. Seems the Deus does a little better with the nails and the Manticore does better with the bigger stuff. Thanks for the video!
Thanks man! To me, its easier to tell iron on the Deus than the Manticore. Its just super easy on the Deus due to the rough scratchy sound on iron vs smooth ramp up/down on non-ferrous. I had a few tricky iron falses on the manticore when running AT HC. Once I switched over to AT General, I didn't get as much falsing. I still have a lot of learning to do on the Manticore for sure.
Love the ranger shovel, just purchased one
Mine is the Predator Spartan. Love it!
@@MetalDetectingNWGAAwesome video ! Im torn between the spartan and the phoenix shovel. What made you go with the spartan? thanks
@@mase202 thanks! I actually own both the Spartan and the Phoenix. The curved blade on the Phoenix works ok for soft ground, but at most of the places I detect, the ground is tough and rocky. The straight pointier blade of the Spartan works much better for tougher ground.
Thank you for taking the time to make this video!
I have a few comments and observations, about the machines.
FYI = With Minelab products a Recovery Speed of:
4 = 2.5 on the Deus 2.
3 = 2 on the Deus 2.
2 = 1 on the Deus 2.
1 = 0.5 on the Deus 2.
0 = 0 on the Deus 2.
Did you Noise Cancel or (long press Noise Cancel) after you changed the Mode, Recovery Speed or Sensitivity? I didn't see you do it, maybe you did it off camera? In the operators manual it states to Noise cancel after any one of these change.
Did you run Manual Ground Balance or Tracking Ground Balance? If you're looking for an edge for depth, It's understood that you'll get greater depth with Manual Ground Balance (MGB). And MGB as often as you think it's necessary.
I understand the difficulty of filming with one hand and detecting in the other. Maybe in the future you can Jerry-rig a camera mount on the detector? Seeing the Manticore Target Trace and hearing your opinion at the same time is a helpful learning tool for us.
Do you think it's fair to say that the Deus II false positive on two ferrous targets, as shown in your video? Or would you call it something else?
NASA-Tom:
The depth indicator is a (capacity meter) of the target/targets.
What the chevrons really 'feel like' to me (in the real-World).
1-chevron depth = 1" deep (surface)
2-chevrons depth = 2"
3-chevrons depth = 3"
4-chevrons depth = 6"
5-chevrons depth = 9"
Thanks PBR! I'm still a total newbie with the Manticore, so your info on how the recovery speeds compare is very useful. Next time I'm out there, I'll try lowering it to 2 so that its equal to the 1 on the Deus 2.
I did do a long noise cancel when I switched modes as I was spending some time hunting in different modes, though I didn't noise cancel when I was just briefly switching over to demonstrate different modes on camera. I manually ground balanced, though off camera. I never really use tracking on any of my detectors.
I wasn't sure exactly what the depth of each chevron was equal to, so I just assumed it was about the same as my old Equinox. I sure wish the Manticore had a numeric read out like the CTX. Not a huge deal, but the numbers on the 3030 sure were nice!
As for the false positives on the Deus 2, I think it all depends on the user. I wouldn't have dug those particular signals on either machine. One was very scratchy to my ears, and the other just didn't repeat. That's not to say that I haven't dug plenty of falsing iron myself with all of my detectors. I've dug lots of them, and still do occasionally. I think Kenny was probably just listening for those really deep signals and maybe tried to convince himself that a couple sounded better than they actually did. I do the same thing often.
Thanks for your comment!
@@MetalDetectingNWGA Yea, I can understand why someone might dig them iffy signals, especially when you're focused on deep targets.
Thanks for your feed back, I'm looking forward to your next video!
@@MetalDetectingNWGA If you conduct Air-Test in the future or for your self, set Manual Ground Balance to '0'. As it's the same setting that you would use on zero mineralized soil like a completely dry sandy beach.
Take a large sheet of sheet metal and test how far back you can detect it. That would be the minimum dry sand depth. Maybe a little extrem but you get the idea.
I can detect my refrigerator almost ~2 feet away with my Fisher F-Pulse pinpointer!
I've come up with a ground balance hack using a very small piece of brass. It makes this very sensitive pinpointer tame. It wont trigger on a clad quarter until it's about roughly ~0.75 inches away.
@@pigeonbloodruby5330 thanks for the info! I will be doing some tests pretty soon. I’m curious to see how the Manticore compares to the D2 in certain scenarios.

It will be interesting to learn what the Deus II software update will be capable of. Let the detector war begin! We the consumers end up the winners!
Awesome comparison, really enjoyed it. Looking for deep targets on the edge of detection can be a challenge. Kenny
Thanks Kenny! I appreciate you and Jeff taking the time to compare signals. The D2 with 11” coil was hitting everything. Makes me wanna get the 11x13.
Hi, there. Like the comparison in the metals detectors. I like it when the community does videos like this. Is the 1930s ball field open to the public, and could you tell me where in AL is at? I live in florida not far from Alabama and like to go there on the weekends.
Hi Eddie. Its located in Centre Alabama. Its in the NE corner of the state.
Thank you for taking the time to show this. Love your shovel too. Any thoughts on an 11x13 D2 coil? I have the 9 and 11 that i have. 11 gives me another inch or so deeper.
Hey Jason, I only have the 9” but I really liked the extra depth and coverage I saw with Kenny’s 11” coil. So I plan to pick up an 11x13 next. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Another great video, thanks. Hope to see you soon
Thanks Mike! Come on back whenever you're ready!
Thanks for testing. 👍
Thanks Michael! Appreciate you stopping by!
I have to laugh at some of the people I see claiming a target is 8", 10" ect on some videos when the pinpointer is still half way above the dirt. It seems many don't realize an actual 8" coin is deep in the wild. 9" and over is extremely deep IMO. Especially if slightly or fully on edge! Nice comparison! That's a lot of work to do what you're doing here! TC.
Thanks John. Yep, I’ve seen a few guys claiming 9” deep coins with 3” of pinpointer still sticking out of the ground. Lol! I agree, 8”+ is deep in the wild. I rarely get coins deeper than that unless I’m hunting at this crazy ball field where everything is deep. Most of my silver coins are only in the 5”-7” range here in NW GA.
Hey, guys! Great video! I would like to ask your opinion. Do I need to change my CTX to Manticore?
Hey, thanks! You don't NEED to change your CTX if you're happy with it. The question is do you WANT to change to a Manticore. The Manticore is a great detector and has a lot to offer. I have a full written review over at the Friendly Metal Detecting Forum if you'd like to read it. Here's the link: metaldetectingforum.com/index.php?threads/my-thoughts-on-the-minelab-manticore-after-50-hours-and-beyond.300976/
Great to see you got the Manticore! I ordered back in November from Modern Metal Detectors, hope to have it soon! I guess you might have ordered back in Aug. I always enjoyed your Equinox 800 videos, I even used your coin program. I assume you will have one for the Manticore after more use?
Thanks man! I think my order was placed at the end of August. Daniel said I was first on the list, so hopefully the other orders start shipping out soon. I'm hoping to come up with a good coin program for the Manticore, but I still need to put some more hours on it first. Still have a lot to learn. I appreciate you watching and commenting! HH!
@@MetalDetectingNWGA Your welcome can't wait to get my hands on the Manticore and see more of your videos about the machine! Thank you HH.
Both machines did great! I just prefer Minelab for the sound and familiarity. Ballfields are my specialty and I'm sure the manticore will reach coins my Nox 800 didn't. Order to be placed :)
I get that 100%. Some detectors just click better with people than others, whether its the tones, or feel or even the ID. I think all of these are top notch! Good luck with your new machine! :)
You have one serious place to hunt silver coins. Absolutely awesome. What state are you in?
Thanks! I'm located in Cave Spring GA, but this hunt was filmed in Centre Alabama.
@@MetalDetectingNWGA that's awesome. We do not have any areas like that in N. California. We have to work very very hard and get on very good locations to get a single silver coin. 5+ in one day? Wow that would be exciting. Great job.

Please do a video on how you set up your coin program on the manticore
Hi Fred, I'll try to get a good coin program out soon. This one was just a quick cherry picking pattern I threw together. It has both ferrous limits at 10, accepts 24-29 for the nickel slot, then 69+ for silver.

Where will we go from here in the future. Enjoyed your presentation.
Thanks Tex! Its a good time to be a detectorist, that's for sure.
Plugs are HUGE!! Way to big. BUT, great comparison vid...
Thanks Steve! I dig larger than normal plugs at this specific site due to the soil being so sandy. For whatever reason, the bigger plugs seem to hold together better and look less noticeable after I put them back in the ground. No worries, I don’t dig monster plugs like that on my other sites. lol
@@MetalDetectingNWGAyou nailed it, I have a lot of spots with the same coil, and small plugs give you small dead spots. Large plugs survive every time, and aren’t noticeable next day
@@Ferrous_Buellerhey Chris! Been a while. Hope you’re doing well! Yeah man, not to mention I’ve learned from my mistakes on digging too small of a plug on those deeper targets. I’ve literally nailed a semi key date coin with my shovel before due to digging too small of a plug and a pinpoint that was slightly off. 😢😂
All depends on the soil and root system. In sandy soil small plugs end up drying out and sending the spot into drought dormancy and you end up with dry spots everywhere..
Always a good review!
Thanks John!
Hello sir is dues2 or manticore good??
Hi, both are excellent in my opinion. Can’t go wrong with either one.
We’ll done. Not many people take the time and effort to compare machines on un-dug targets out in the field. And I also experience quite a bit of iron falsing when using deep HC on the deus 2. I’ve found deep HC to be pretty unusable on the heavy iron spots I normally detect, so a modified fast is my first pick and second is a modified park.
Thanks TB. Yep, those lower weighted frequency programs just like to bark at the iron a little more it seems. I love the Fast based programs on the Deus 2. So calm, quiet and easy to cherry pick with them. Thanks for watching and HH!

If i had 30 gold coins weight 10 grms per coin in depth 80 cm this is my target .What you believe is better metal detector for my target ? What coil and what set up can help me more for my target ?
Thanks alot for your time !
@@pamphstrigkas6327 hello! Wow, that’s a tough one. The amount of depth you can get from a metal detector depends greatly on the mineralization level of your soil. I don’t know what kind of soil you have in Greece, but 30” deep (80cm) is asking a lot from any VLF metal detector. You might be better off looking into a PI machine for something like that. I’m not able to offer much advice on those as I lack experience with them, but it would be worth looking into for that target scenario.
@@MetalDetectingNWGA if my target is inside in iron or metal box ?
@@pamphstrigkas6327 the targets I look for are the size of an individual coin. What you’re looking for is something much different and it’s outside my level of expertise. I’d rather direct you to ask someone who may be able to offer solid advice, than to give you bad advice. This is a good question to ask on a forum in my opinion. That way you’ll hear from several different people.

Appreciate all the time you took to compare deep signals with CTX, D2, and Manticore. I have a question for you after watching your vid.
I love the ML flutey sound of deep silver. I used a Minelab Explorer for almost 10 yrs and was very familiar with the conductive flutey tones of deep targets….The sound profile you had set up on your manticore (Depth) just didn’t speak to me ( sounded harsh with no tonal pitch change based on conductivity of target. It reminded me of my PI machine I use at my local beaches). I prefer to listen to conductive tone audio profiles, and can usually tell if I have a deep target based on the strength of the conductive targets along with the depth gauge, but I usually can tell a “deepy” without needing to see the depth indicator. Did you choose that audio profile of the manticore to make it sound similar to your D2 audio profile? Is there some advantage to setting the manticore with that Depth audio profile instead of conductive tones?
Keep the vids coming! 👍🏼
Hey Dan! Being a former Etrac & CTX user myself, I'm also a big fan of those flutey conductive Minelab tones. When running a pattern that accepts a wide range of ID's, those conductive tones make it super easy to tell what you likely have beneath your coil by tone alone. On this particular hunt, I'm using a very tight cherry picking pattern which only accepts copper pennies and up, along with a small window for nickels. At this location targets tend to run deep, so being able to quickly spot those deeper targets (by pitch) becomes more useful than hearing the conductivity, since I'm only cherry picking such a narrow range anyway. I'll definitely be using the Manticore's "All Tones" modes when using a more open disc pattern. On the Deus 2, I use Pitch tones almost exclusively. Love how descriptive the audio is on the D2. Thanks for stopping by and commenting! HH!

The CTX iron false can be determined by pinpointing. If the the target is here and you pinpoint it there, it’s iron.
The first depth indicator is 3 inches followed by 2 inches for all of the rest per the manticore manual
Thanks for the info John Q!
Nice vid! (but the silver-rubbing... :) You have nice soil there!
I've been out of the game for a while but saw something about the Manticore and wanted to see what it was like. It has nice tones (like my Explorer) but, man, that Deus sounded like frog farts, at least early in the vid. I was skipping a bit so maybe the sounds were switched somewhere. I'm curious about the Deus but couldn't stand to listen to that one sound over and over.
Thank you Richard. My buddy likes to run his Deus 2 in PWM audio which sounds like a dying chicken or something. lol. Fortunately, the Deus has several audio options including one called "square". Square audio is much easier on the ears. It sort of sounds like the flutey Minelab tones.
I wonder if the Manticore would detect a 10lb stack of silver bullion in a pvc pipe about 12-15 inches underground? Is the signal stronger if there’s a lot of pure metal or does depth cancel regardless of how much is there? I’ve never seen this question addressed. 🤷♂️
I would think so. The larger the target, the stronger the signal at depth. The Manticore is capable of hitting a single quarter sized coin at a foot in mild soil, so something that large should be easy. Of course, if the soil is highly mineralized or there's a lot of iron/junk around the target, that'll make a difference.
@@MetalDetectingNWGAthank you for responding! I’m actually looking for a presumably “lost hoard”. Have purchased this detector and trying to figure out how to use it.

You need to ground balance the Manticore for best depth and target ID.
After ever mode change or after any recovery speed or frequency change you need to re-ground balance.
Also you may want to set ferrous limits to 0, because in mineralisation deep coins will be "pulled down" in the lower ferrous range and with your settings not be found.
@@metalldetektor1 Thanks! I ground balanced and noise canceled off camera.
What was the decrim on the d2 that he was running?
6.8 disc, pitch tones.
Dewayne, I own the Equinox 800 and Deus II. Would there be any reason for me to add the Manticore to my collection? Great job on this video
Thanks John. I'm just now learning the Manticore so I really can't say just yet. Need to get a little more time on it to see what its strengths and weaknesses are. So far, I think it may have a very slight edge in raw depth, but I find the tones on the Deus 2 to be more descriptive.
People say the Nox 800 has the edge on deep silver over the D2 so maybe we are just buying new machines because they are new toys. And people are reporting the Nox 800 is beating the Manticore on the wet beaches too.
I have 2 Nox 800s and can’t say my D2 is better or deeper with any scenario I have tried and the D2 has proven less deep than the Nox in similar comparisons on real digs I have done comparisons on. I use the D2 mostly because it is quite a bit lighter than the Nox for long digs.@@MetalDetectingNWGA
@@oldplucker1 I don't have any experience beach hunting, but in my soil I found the D2 with the 9" coil to be about equal or slightly deeper than my Nox 800 and CTX with 11" coil. Seeing how Kenny's 11" coil performed, I think its at least and inch or two deeper than the D2 with the 9" coil. At most of the places I hunt, every one of these machines are plenty deep. The Nox 800 still holds its own very well IMHO. I love the light weight, descripted tones and improved ID on the D2.
I look forward to viewing more of your Manticore comparisons with the Deus II.
@@MetalDetectingNWGA In the soil I detect on grass the Nox is an inch or two deeper than the D2 but not many people have taken the time to set the Nox up correctly for the conditions. The Legend has Screen Freezing problems I am told which would annoy me so much. so is out for me. So the D2 comes out with me not for depth but for being lighter and allowing me to end the day with some energy left after 7 to 8 hours detecting. However when I need depth the Nox is there to take over., especially with the larger coils. But the Nox 11” beats the D2 11” on the soils in the UK I detect on. Most digs here do not require great depth anyway because ancient finds are often within 6 inches of the surface due to ploughing.
Great test,hi digger from Ukraine.
Hello and thanks!
What coil size did you use on the D2?
Robert, in this video Kenny was using an 11” coil on his D2. When I hunted this site last year, I had the 9” coil on my Deus 2. I love the 9” coil but I believe the 11” definitely has a little depth advantage. I’m thinking about picking up the 11X13 for my D2.
I don't see this machine doing anything different than what my Equinox 600 is already doing. Having something new is always nice, but the 600 has plenty of juice IMHO.
The Nox 600 & 800 are both still great detectors. Its all a matter of if the new bells and whistles are worth the price to you. Yep, the ol' 600 has plenty of juice!
Manticore will hit targets the 600/800 struggle with. Theres a few videos already on here comparing it to the 800 on deep coins. Manticore is def a deeper machine.

Huge plugs because the soil is very sandy and targets are deep. Didn't leave any attached because its the middle of Winter. Grass won't be growing until spring, so doesn't make any difference. Yep. The Manticore has a wide spread between target IDs, which is useful, but it also makes the TID seem a bit more jumpy.
Too much hype on these new detectors too expensive for me 800.00 my limit will just keep using my etrac
The Etrac is still an outstanding machine.
The ETRAC is amazing, but the CTX with the 17” coil goes beyond what the etrac can sense.
With the CTX 17” coil I can hit a barber dime at around 13”, the etrac fades out around 9”

@@MrFartyman44 No sorry no videos of my 13” hits using the 17” coil.
But trust me I’ve hit many old barber dimes at 13”, now that’s not to say they come in loud and clear, I’d say I got around a 65% chance of silver according to the CO/FE numbers, i found a small old patch of ground in a park in York, NE and trust me ever time I had a repeatable signal good or not, I dug it and lo and behold something good came out. he really needs to run with the iron tone on the deus 2 or raise his disgrim so he can hear the grunt on big iron like that horse shoe it sounds like its on the limit of detection as no iron grunting but if he had the iron volume up he would here the iron grunt and the blips this would indicate an iron target that is falsing 90% of the time ofc there will be those issues when somthign good is been masked with iron but its still a better indication than his current setup is tellign him
I think he normally runs it that way. He had some audio settings changed around that day because I asked him to hunt without headphones so that the camera would pick up the signal.
On the Manticore the screen is Awesome but I do not understand the 2D ID MAP ? it just shows you a blob of crap ? so for a $500 more for a 2D ID map that looks like a 1978 Atari 2600 game is it worth it ???
Rick, there’s actually a lot of useful info in those blobs on the 2D map. Just takes some time to learn how to understand what it’s telling you. If you haven’t already seen it, check out my video titled deep and iffy coin signals. It shows some examples of how the 2D map can be useful for showing good targets mixed with iron or other junk. If you still don’t think that would be a useful feature, then you might be better off going with something like the Nox 900.
Eeeeyyyyy!… Atari 2600 was great! 😅
@yomismo5711 Yeah but the graphics sucked !
Nice video!
Paystreak Superfreak would never dig a plug as larger as yours!
Ante nobody got time for dat! 🤣
Spade crack, wire brush the oxide layer off, heat up the crack and weld it with the appropriate welding rod.
Ask Predator Tolls what welding rod to use.

Thanks PBR! Hah! Yeah I remember ol’ Paystreak once said he wasn’t interested in digging deep holes for older coins because it was too much work, and one modern gold ring is worth more than any old coins. Of course, I strongly disagree, but to each his own.
I’ve looked all over that shovel and can’t find a crack. Not sure why it’s so noisy. Maybe one of the welds broke loose and I just haven’t noticed it. I’ll look closer. GL & HH!
@@MetalDetectingNWGA There is something I think called a 'Penetrating Dye" to locate fine cracks in steel.
Engine rebuilders use a type of magnet and iron dust to locate cracks in cast iron blocks.
I think there is a technique of pooling a little bit of water and heating it up and some how the crack shows it's self, not sure?
I would examine the root of the saw teeth. The owner of Predator Tool told me that is the weak point and where they typically break.

@@pigeonbloodruby5330 Thanks. I think we may actually have some of that dye in our front building here at work. I'll definitely try it. Appreciate the advice!
