I remember seeing this game being reviewed on X-Play, and at the time, I had zero knowledge of Japanese culture. After studying the language and culture for over 9 years now, I can tell you the visuals and sounds are definitely intentional. The hilarious things they say in Japanese are also dramatically overdone (again all intentional). The "yoo" sound you hear is very common in kabuki theatre, often followed by these hand drums called "kotsuzumi" I've never played this game, I just remember hearing so many bad things about it. I can't speak on the controls or how bad the A.I. is, but I like the concept of this game. I would say if you are going to market this game to a western audience, it would have been better to explain a little bit of the history of kabuki, why the characters look as they do, or even what's going on in the game, otherwise, there will be a ton of confusion. It would be cool if this game would be remade but with better controls and add a bit of story so that the player can have better insight. Anyway, that's just my two cents.
I appreciate the comment! I wanted to balance this review as trying to not be insulting to anything cultural, so much as laughing at the overall presentation and gameplay and hopefully it came across that way. I really think this game could've been something like an updated and more realistic version of Bushido Blade with a lot more polish, but as it stands it was funnier to play than anything else. Like you can see that they wanted to make with this, but either didn't have the time or maybe knowledge to put it all together.
@@BrokenControllerClub You did fine, I just thought I would throw that part in because some people laugh at stuff like this without understanding. I agree, though. It would have been a better game if it was more like bushido blade or something like that with at least a story or different set pieces. Remember games like Foul Play? That was a brilliant game with different set pieces. It would have been cool if kuroko-san (the stagehand) could change the stage. But it was a time where things like that wasn't thought of. Speaking of Bushido Blade, there are so many indie games who are trying to bring that style of gameplay back like Die by the Blade, and a game that is supposed to come out today called "Sclash". I feel like if you want games like this, indie games is the way to go. Mainstream just doesn't seem to really care about stuff like this., (especially how politics have somehow overshadowed gaming these days)
@@BrokenControllerClub Yep, I played the demo on PC. It took me a minute to understand how to do the "fatalities" and sequences. I'm not a fan of the whole cyberpunk aesthetic, I'm more into the traditional look, but still a fun game for sure. If it has a ninja and/or samurai in a game, there is a 99% chance I'll play it.
Another one I luckily never played, but I still see it rotting in the Xbox area at my retro gaming store. This looks soooo bad! Thanks for another review buddy! Can’t wait for the next! 👍
Mt ex-wife bought me an Xbox for Christmas in 2002 and bought me this game used with it (probably because it was the cheapest game availabe). It's on the short list of worst games I've ever played. Even sitting thruogh this video was a slog. There's a special place in hell for the programers of this game. In fact, it would not surprise me if people in hell had to play this game non-stop for eternity.

I know what you mean. I've got One Strike on the Switch and that's a good time. Easy to pick up and play, colorful, and really fun.

Ever play Bushidio Blade ps1?
I have! Had some good memories with it. The combat's very rock-paper-scissors but still fun.
@@BrokenControllerClub I v d playing it withy brother and cousin's. FutureCop LAPD was another amazing multiplayer game for us.

This is the first thing I've read this morning and I laughed like an idiot - thank you for watching and giving me a good laugh 🤣
