Yamaha twins shared the chassis with the production racers until 1973. The Rd400 was still very good even with rubber mounting the engine.
🙂Cheers for watching mate. Ride Free 🙂
1987. A mate asked if I would run in his rebored to 430cc RD. Rode from London to Norwich and back again - absolute blast but them twin Microns...my ears didn't stop ringing for days!

Wish I still had mine! Rode it like I stole it & crashed it many times. Then I grew up & bought a four stroke.

Only 2 of these are listed for sale in Australia. Asking price converted into pounds is between £8,000 and £10,000. Wow! In the 80’s the RD was changed to RZ for the Australian, Canadian and New Zealand markets. My second road bike was an RZ250 in 1991. I think I paid the equivalent to £750 back then. Today, only 3 listed for sale at around the same as the 70’s versions however I’ve found only one RZ500 for around £18,000! Blimey!
Do you want a 400 Daytona Special in Australia ?
Had an RD350 and RD400 🇦🇺 great lightweight machines...
some of the prices here these days are pretty hefty too 🙂Cheers for watching mate. Ride Free 🙂

great bikes, i will have a look at the LS2 🙂 Cheers for watching mate. Ride Free 🙂
These were mythical back in the day. Long before the internet. You’d read an article and then see one in SoCal and it was just OMFG lol. Brilliant “less is more!”
The various RD's feature a lot in various of my videos, i was a 350LC man :-) which is here, th-cam.com/video/gYetZtEpPcM/w-d-xo.html there is more of the 400 in the main video linked in the description but its here th-cam.com/video/5m5w2_nEpyA/w-d-xo.html and the series 1 350 here th-cam.com/video/jgSnHBdXcOo/w-d-xo.html 🙂Cheers for watching mate. Back in the 80s my buddy did 110 mph on one of those with me on the back

Had a 77 purchased new. 55 hp was easily done exhaust, intake and minor porting.
That was the thing about all the RDs they were so easy to tune 😊 I was lucky to know the great Terry Beckitt. My 350LC was almost as quick as the TZ350 when he had finished n I added a fairing 😊 all hail the mighty RDs 😊
And it could wipe the floor with ANY kawasaki triple
@leananglesensor That's a bold statement. I always liked the triples and kawasaki 2 or 4 stroke, always flowed a little better re: induction. The Japanese re invented the motorcycle. I rode my rd400 from Downingtown Pa. to Tacoma WA. It never missed a beat. I ride a harley now, but the RD was more fun. And when I had a flat tire in Chicago, a cop went off duty and took me to an indy harley mechanic who threw a new tube in and told me to pay him when I get to McCord AFB. The garage owner and cop couldn't believe I was taking that long of a trip on this bike.
@@genegeneish in the twisties the triples were canon fodder for rd 350 ,they only did one thing better accelerate quickly in a straight line,& THAT was limited to only the h1&h2 ,ill take a rd any day of the week over all the triples 😁
great bikes 🙂 Cheers for watching mate. Ride Free 🙂
I've witnessed both the RD 350 and the RD 400 planted in drag bike style frames they both were very fast for what they were...
great bikes 🙂 Cheers for watching mate. Ride Free 🙂
Hahaha..my RD350 kicked many cb750s ass on a tiny 1/4 mile drag strip in north east Louisiana in the mid 70s.it was badged as a RD250 ..the only difference in the 2 bikes was the topend ..handful of aftermarket parts and the talent of a local guy that port and polished 2 stroke topends and it was ready to kill any honda on the road that summer...use its 6 speed as a 5 speed..gearing made 1st gear useless so took off in 2nd..revered shit pattern so 5 down and thru the lights 1,000 rpm in redline..mid to low 11s for a 15 yr old kid was pretty swift in that part of the country..damn the kids in those days lived the life 😅
glad it jogged some good memories mate 🙂Cheers for watching. Ride Free 🙂
Sold it and bought a kz650. Still ride the 650 daily. Good times.
enjoy it mate 🙂Cheers for watching. Ride Free 🙂
Yamaha RD's are bad ass ! I had one in high school and smoked everyones butt in a race. I turned it into a cafe' racer with road racer bars and Bassani compitition exhausts.
great bikes 🙂 Cheers for watching mate. Ride Free 🙂
I had a fellow RD bud from California.
He knew Darryl Bassani, and Scott Clough.
And why because YAMAHA!!! RULES!!!
there is more in the main video linked in the description 🙂Cheers for watching mate. Ride Free 🙂
I think Percy Tait had a hand in developing the chassis. His paraphrased quote: "I refused to ride it until certain changes were made, without which, the bike would crash. It crashed. They made the changes, he rode it and it didn't crash"
wow thats a name i havent heard in a while :-) cheers for the comment mate, he was a class racer
I missed the bus,i rode kawasaki triples which did nothing well except quckly accelerate.
the RD's were masterpieces 🙂 hope you will check out the main video, its linked in the description
the RD's come up often and there is a 2 strokes only playlist 🙂 bit hazy, just back off tour
With constant torque hp goes up with RPM. With increasing torque, hp goes up as the square of the RPM. Hold on when it hits the pipe. You'll want to do it over and over again.
great bikes, I went to the 350LC but the older 400 was a great bike 🙂 Cheers for watching mate. Ride Free 🙂
Wheelie machines
indeed, Great bikes 🙂 Cheers for watching mate. Ride Free 🙂
Nah, I'll take my S3 anyday.😊

Rd superior in every aspect 😁 choosing an s3 is purely an emotional choice
