Our festive journey in Germany kicked off in Wattenscheid, my hometown, with a morning visit to the Schley Garden Centre, absorbing the local vibes and greenery. After a lovely start, my grandma dropped us at Wattenscheid Bahnhof, where we quickly flew to Dortmund to experience the renowned Dortmund Christmas Market.
Arriving in Dortmund, the trip was swift, taking just about 20 minutes. We spent the afternoon exploring, waiting for dusk to witness the lighting of what's touted as the world's largest Christmas tree each year-a truly magnificent sight that lit up the evening.
As we strolled through the vibrant market, the scent of chimney cakes drew us in, reminiscent of our holiday in Budapest. We shared one, savouring the sweet taste of nostalgia. Thirsty from our walk, we stopped by a Rewe, where I tried a mango & dragonfruit Fanta, which turned out to be underwhelming.
Before heading back, we picked up a lebkuchen herz, a traditional German gingerbread heart, as a gift for my grandma. Returning to Wattenscheid, we presented the heart to her, and her joy was the perfect end to our day.
The evening wound down in my grandma's cosy living room, reflecting on our cherished moments at the Christmas market and the warmth of family reunions.
