Mine was displaying the same and i had bought it like two days ago i was scared but after trying it out it worked Thanks for the video informative and educative
thank you! great help. case: cloned my hdd to my new ssd. then placed my hdd to an enclosure to make it as an external hdd. formatted external hdd using a different pc, then when I checked it in my laptop, it says offline because it has signature collision. followed this advise, and it greatly helped! thank you
Thank you very much for your much' your advice helped out tremendously. Other YT videos show you the good but never show what to do "if" this happens. I will hit the sub button, thank you once again.
Thanks for a clear explanation of this situation, will clicking online wipe any information on the disc? i.e Photos, saved documents in folders. Many thanks
Just had this happen for the first time in about 100 external drives ;) Didnt understand the need for all the cmd/diskpart explaining though, only made it more confusing. Would only need to know to put as online in Diskmanagement and then you are good to go :)
The problem is when you attach it back the bcd will not recognize the signature 😂. Guys do not do this. If you attach a duplicate signature you would need a script to offline the disk then change the signature correlation with the bcd to boot the root again Attachment will only result in a wtf. Let me know if YOU would like the script..i created it for an environment
THanks for explaining how to use diskpart, but I get the same dialog box in Computer Management when I try to select ONLINE and get "Disk attributes may not be changed on the current system disk or BIOS disk". I have 2 ssds 512 GB and 2 TB, I cloned 512 GB to 2TB, the 512 GB has the Windows Boot so I tried to migrate to the large 2 TB. But I have problems now to do Windows Updates from 22H2 to 23H2. So I thought to revert back the 512 GB to see if I can update it and just use the 2 TB with another computer. Any help would be very much appreciated, ,I wanted to put it 512 GB back online and boot into to try see I I can get those important Windows Updates.
It is a little bit confusing for me, so you have the 512 GB in the computer right now and the 2 TB is not in the computer? Do you get the signature conflict in that case?
I have the exact same issue but from doing a system migration, when I press on "online" and go to do the system migration again, i get the exact same error.

In Linux, sudo tune2fs /dev/nvme[X] -U random [or yourNewUuidNumber from uuidgen, if installed] is not as helpful as I would have hoped. Unfortunately, tune2fs is for ext2/ext3/ext4 and not for NTFS file system. Moreover, I don't know of an equivalent to tune2fs for NTFS. The command ntfslabel is not it either. After using 'dd' to create a Windows drive replica (plus quick non-cryptographic hash verification of partitions), a signature collision emerges. Specifically, one of the drives no longer appears in BIOS even though both drives are in POST immediately after powering on! 🤕😟🙁🤔😠🤬😲🥴😢😕🥺😧🤪😎 I am stuck using Disk Management in Windows to fix the collision. Superb video 👍 thank you. Kindest regards, friends and neighbours.
Brilliant. I was scratching my head thinking I had a dead Hard drive. Thank you so much.
The online is grayed Out for me.
same
just select the offline disk in cmd and then type in online disk and it should set the disk online
This was extremely helpful. So great to see a simple and direct explanation. Thank you!

Not sure what you mean by online wipe? But it sounds like that you should not do that if the care about the data on the drive.
@@ekiwi-blog-english I meant click to bring it back online where it says "Windows: disk offline with signature collision" But all sorted now.
Excellent. Thank you sir !

How to make it online if the online option is grayed out for me?
The online option should become availavle once the problem is solved.
Brilliant but simple idea, stupid of Microsoft not to give any hints how to resolve a simple issue. Many thanks.
when I click online a prompt says "access denied" I've been stuck for weeks please help me
Hard to tell, make sure you run diskpart as admin.
