I bought the green marble Pelikan M200 with a M nib 20 years ago and it still numbers among my most favorite and regularly used pens. It fits my hand perfectly and has performed flawlessly despite being capped and unused for days at a time. Never any hard starts or skips; always good ink flow.

I too own a Pelikan M200 with a medium nib. It’s the grey marbled old Version with the engraved Pelikan at the top of the cap and the two golden rings on the other end of the cap but without the golden ring at the piston knob. I think this model was made until 1997. And I’m so happy with this gorgeous little pen. Yes it’s a fairly light pen, lighter than the TWSBI 580. But the nib writes so pleasant smooth and soft. I really love this pen.

Of all the fountain pens I own, this is my favourite. I have a number of nice pens but this one, even at the low end of the Souverain range, is a terrific pen. Writes very well and looks elegant. I would recommend it.

A pelikan fine is truely a medium. I even compared the point to some vintage fines which are still stickered fine.

Great review Stephen. I have an M200 fitted with a gold, broad M400 nib. It's one of my favourites.

Great review, thank you. I have this pen & it's one of my favourite buys. I splashed out on a medium oblique nib from the company I bought the pen from as that suits my writing style better and I haven't been disappointed. It always works first time and delivers a smooth, wet writing experience, with no skipping or scratching. Quality writing instrument indeed.

Hmmm weird. I recently bought this same pen with the same fine nib, but mine happens to have such a soft and flexible nib that it could be seen as a semi flex nib. And on top of that, the nib is incredibly smooth on mine and lays down the perfect amount of ink for my handwriting, and never skips. Well, guess I just got lucky :P

You keep mentioning that the M200 is small, which surprised me as I have been using the M200 for many years
So I compared it posted to the Lamy 200 and the Platinum 3776 and it is the same size
So upposted it is smaller but posted it is full size

Neeman Callender the Classic M2xx and Souverän M40x are the smaller pens of the Pelikan range, but they are a standard size indeed. Just to modern standards they appear small and the M60x more average

I would appreciate a stiffer nib from pelikan. The nib metal is a vary thin grade which makes it springy but I also write with a heavier hand sometimes.

I once got a problem Pelikan nib. Just the one. A steel broad that would not write. I replaced it with a fine which was perfect. Day I'll get that broad nib working. But I have 4 other Pelikan nibs (all steel) that can not be faulted. So they are very reliable even at the cheaper end.

Hi. Around 05:30 you are saying that the Pelikan nibs are always good out of the box. But in another review (of M8xx series, I think it was M805 you said you were disappointed how such an expensive pen doesn't come with the perfect nib straight out of the box, as it should - you were making a car comparison). P.S. Thanks for your videos, either way!

Thanks for yet another great review. As for the gap on the clip ring, I don't really think it's a tolerance issue, it's just the way the clip is designed. Both my 80s-90s M400 have that very same gap while my vintage 400 doesn't.
Pelikan has unfortunately stepped up their price quite a bit and I'm worried about the future if they keep ramping up the prices of their pens.

Hi , i would like you at first to thank you for your very useful videos. I have a question. As i look for a very smooth fountain pen , i have bought a waterman hemisphere , but i am a little bit disappointed , because the nib is not so smooth ( it scratches a lot when you begin to write ), although the form of the hemisphere is very good(comfortable and the weight is very pleasant). So i wonder what could be the best fountain pen , under 100 euro , with a very smooth nib ; that is the quetion.
    Thanks a lot.

I would love to see this pen with an upgraded 14k gold fine nib. Maybe it be slightly wetter and more like a soft fine. I will check your website as well. Thanks for the review.

Believe it or not the 200 is larger (longer) than vintage pens uncapped.

My M200 (Cognac) came with the fake leather pouch and the fake seal with the elastic band. Maybe because it was a special edition ?

+MrPleers This box is a gift box, that can buy seperate. Some offers sales it in a bundle with the pen. Normaly the pen comes in a normal cheap paperbox without any instruction of using the pen or the warrenty paper.

I am considering this pen as my next purchase. I have the option to buy it from a pen store (where I can test the nib before buying) for 100€ or online for about 70€. Do you think the extra 30€ for being able to test the nib is worth it?

    • @sbrebrown
      @sbrebrown  8 ปีที่แล้ว

Yes, testing is always worth it. You never know what nib you'll get otherwise.

Oic. Sad. I bought an M400 EF some months back but it was broader than a Sailor Medium nib and too wet to be usable. Was hoping I could swap in a steel Pelikan EF nib

So, German pen companies do only modernist (Lamy, Rotring) or retro (Pelikan, Kaweco, Montblanc) design. Why? I don't like overly vintage looks of Pelikan or Kaweco, like if fountain pen is some kind of relic and you are old-fashioned person if you are using them. Just no, no. Even Waterman with theyr ridiculous "Paris-style" marketing doesn't turn me off so much.
