The M200 in black EF was my first quality pen some 20 years ago Pelikan used to sell off the shelf many of these colors that are now marketed as special editions, of which I have three of these colors The great thing of interchangeable nibs is that I have two Richard Binder nibs for these M200
Wonderful clarity & vocal quality to your filming and satisfying backdrop for pen folk. Great subject as well, and couldn't agree more with Pelikan special editions sizes. I'd love to also see the more expensive special editions made only in M1000 size (such as the radens & maki-e versions) made in smaller sizes. Ah well, I guess as any Pelikan fan I'm at the mercy of the yearly announcement. Thanks for another fine video!
I'm always on the lookout for new videos made by you! Great job!I've been into this hobby for about 2 years and I still enjoy watching your videos since the day I found your awesome channel. =D
Great review as always! I think it is funny that you reviewed this and a Waterman Expert back to back, because I was considering both of those pens. I ended up with this exact m200, and I adore it. I have more expensive pens in my collection, but there’s just something special about this one!
Its a be eautiful pen. I would get this instead of the regular black. But i did get get the black first. Oh well. The m200 is great general use pen also for work. Not a 14 k nib though but i got eversharp symphony and a skyline for that. The m200 is bouncy though but it still works. Manifold is kinda better for a work situation.
I added this pen to my collection a couple months ago. I've found Pelikan to sell reliable writing pens: I also own two 600's and one 800. I was anxious to watch SBREBrown's review to see his opinion of this pen. The only complaint I have is something he mentioned: it feels plastic-y.
Deftly balanced review Stephen.. I agree that it would be fun if Pelikan made a slightly larger version.. for me it would be an m800 size with plastic similar to the thickness of the Pilot823. As you say, the pricing would have to be adjusted upwards. Worth it for me.. nice job. I've said it before, but the quality of your videography is very good. Thanks! Frank from Boulder, Colorado
Thanks for an informative review. After being tempted to buy an entry level Pelikan, I finally got the M205 Aquamarine last year. The pens really are well made. It's too bad Pelikan has limited the range of available nibs. I bought my M205 from Great Britain and was able to get a double broad nib, knowing I wanted Richard Binder to grind it into a cursive Italic. It is a really special writer.
Thanks for the great review! Would you have bought this pen with a Broad nib or would you say the medium puts on a sufficient thick line as well. I'm leaning more towards a broad because I like my lines thicker and I love a smooth writing experience. That being said, I know some pens also provide this experience with a medium nib.
I am a newbie in the fountain pen world, I only own a Pilot Metropolitan which I refill by filling the IC-100 cartridge with a syringe. I'm a bit confused about this pen and piston fillers in general. So let's say I get this pen (I'm strongly considering it), at some point, by the looks of it at half a bottle, ink level won't go up to the section, so I'll loose the ability to refill from the bottle. In that scenario how do I use the rest of the ink with this pen?
Hi Stephen, I want to upgrade my FP collection, I currently have a Lamy Safari and Pilot Metropolitan. I love them both. If I were to choose one of the upper end pens, what should I choose among 1. Pelikan M200 EF, 2. TWSBI 580 EF, 3. Lamy 2000 EF or 4. Kaweco Supra EF. Which one would be the best in terms of value and fine writing experience. I am graduate student, so would usually use it for long period of writing.
Late reply, and I’m not Stephen, but I am also a graduate student. I first write most compositions with pen and paper, regardless of length, before type. I’ve found it to be a useful step in my drafting process. My first “next-level” pen was the Lamy 2000, and it might very well be my favorite still, despite competitive options in my collection. It has earned the reputation that it carries. However, my Kaweco Liliput (copper) has been my daily writer both before the 2000 and now after. I personally love the weight that you get with such a small footprint. However, the 2000 is a safer bet, individual preferences aside.
Hey, there! Forgive me if this is a common question, but have you made a video addressing the sizes or variations of Pelikan fountain pens in general, like an overview? I know what you said about the M200 here, but I'd like more perspective before committing to a luxury item. Thank you.
I have had both of them. The parker sonnet (at least in 18k gold fine) has one of the best, out of the box, nibs I ever used. I can say it is not flexy but it is really really nice. The Pelikan has a bigger ink capacity and a nice nib :)
John Newton nah.. it comes in different shades but though yo get greyish, they have little brown to them. I like the brown smokey quartz and have number of pieces. Reminds me of the colour of a peaty lochan. Ive swum in a few...

I have this pen and like it a lot. I have small hands, and the size is perfect.

I do agree - M1000 in that finish would make me run to the nearest shop to try it (recent QC issues!) and buy it.
Got my post with SB ink so happy, I love one of these Pens someday soon. Love your TH-cam info demos watch them when I get my notices of new.
+Randy Allen Dodds Thank you!
Thank you for the review, i wanted to purchase but wasn't sure. Now because of your review, I will be purchasing the pen.
Nice review, sir - No BS, cut to the point, writing sample is included.
Thank you!
These special editions are a decent value. Agree that the size is on the smaller side, but when posted it does become usable.
Thank you, Stephen. I would like this as a M800 or M1000.
Agree. It would be stunning.
M600/M800 size will be perfect.
Nice review, thanks. I totally agree with you there, we need to see a nice M1005!
Thanks, Stephen!!

The smokey brown color of the pen is warm, but the ink seems more cold? I would rather ink it up with SBRE Brown....

+Frank Bruno Thank you!
I think that flex on the nib was what sold it for me.
Hi, Stephen. Does the box come with the leatherette pouch found in other Pelikan boxes? Thank you.
Same size as the M400
also you can buy gold nibs for this pen
So a less expensive body with a gold nib delivery

Down here the Edelstein ink is only €15 luckly. It is a great ink, but honestly I don't think it would be worth €25/€35.
How much can its price be please.... And the price of gold... With thanks 🌹

You decant the ink
@@sbrebrownYou mean pour it into a more usable bottle? Huh, should've thought of that. Thanks :)

M600 transparent white for review!✒️🖋️
Have you got any ideas for something with a similar classy design, in the same price range but a litte bit bigger?
Not really, sorry.
Is there another channel like this for ballpoint?
haha
instrument of the devil...

I think he made a video something along the lines called "a flock of pelikans" where he did this. Can't find the link though.
Try: Stephen's "Fountain Pen Shootout 67 A Flock of Pelikans" www.sbrebrown.com/2014/09/a-flock-of-pelikans/
Many thanks!
+Daniel Wood I do have a Flock of Pelikans Shootout, index on my website
Am I right in thinking that this pen is the same size as the M400/405
+Adrian Twiss It is
It could also switch nib units with m40x
Would you recommend this or the parker sonnet for writing experience?
I have had both of them. The parker sonnet (at least in 18k gold fine) has one of the best, out of the box, nibs I ever used. I can say it is not flexy but it is really really nice. The Pelikan has a bigger ink capacity and a nice nib :)
+chriskey99 Probably the Sonnet
It is odd, but my 18k Sonnet writes wonderfully but tends to skip when I use it for printing.
Well done sir :)
Somehow I thought that Smokey quartz was grey not brown.
John Newton nah.. it comes in different shades but though yo get greyish, they have little brown to them. I like the brown smokey quartz and have number of pieces. Reminds me of the colour of a peaty lochan. Ive swum in a few...
Too small and light for me, my hand cramps using a M200. It certainly looks good.
Placed two orders with Joost and Appelboom in the past month and both had issues. I won't do business with this company again.
