    Years ago, Fighting Knives Magazine had a recurring article, "The knife that I carry" that operated on a similar premise (and it was the highlight of each issue. Take a famous person who is a knife fan, and ask them what actually found its way into their pocket, and why. Excited you're doing something similar for pens-what's good or interesting enough to make it out the door with you. Well done.

    Yes, yes, yes Broer! I think it would be fascinating to discuss not only pens, but also notebooks, writing pads, portfolios, etc., that you use and/or have used and that you recommend. I personally use different notebooks for different projects, and let me tell you, they have come in infinitely handy when referring back to my notes for decisions made by the team and things like that. People always come to me for my notes because they're not only comprehensive but efficiently organized so that I can easily locate the topic in question. The key is having the right pen and paper to facilitate the note taking process.

    Thanks Dr. Brown. I always find it interesting to know what other people carry. I have an original OMAS 360 but It would be unlikely for me to take it to work. I fear losing my pens or having one go missing so the pens I take to work are TWSBI Diamond 580 Fine, last few fills were with J, Herbin Eclat de Saphir, TWSBI Eco (black) 1.1 Stub with Diamine Oxblood, and occasionally either a Lamy Safari (F) or a Jinhao 750 and the inks vary from my collection depending on my mood.

    Keep it up, nice and innovative. I am retired now. One of the things I miss about having a job is that there is often no place to take my pens each day. They are sad too (do I hear them crying?) I used to carry two fountain and one roller ball most days.

  • @andrewtongue7084
    @andrewtongue7084 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    A nice little diversification from your usual pen reviews - call it a twist (of the cap) ;D I notice, all six are the big boys of your collection - & I do like that Namiki Emperor eyedropper - perhaps I should rename it, the 'Jawdropper' - you could carry your shopping home in that barrel !! Makes my MB 149 look positively juvenile. Super-cool collection, Stephen...keep rolling them out.

    I loved seeing your pens. If I owned any of them they would NOT go to work with me because I would fear losing them or having someone take them. I already lost a whole set of erasable pens I took to work and don't know if I miss placed them or if someone lifted them. I will use my fountain pens in my journal for now. I will stick to taking inexpensive pens just in case I lose them. Your collection definitely made me want some more expensive pens to call my own. Thanks for sharing!

    Not only pen porn, but also you gave us an insight into your personality. Keep them coming. So many Italians! So many flashy colors. And so many valuable pens. I don't have anything quite as fancy as any of those pens, and yet I leave my most valuable pens at home. If I'm writing at work or in a cafe I don't want to use a flashy pen that will attract attention. That's just me.

    I enjoy any posts from you, its because of the SBRE Brown blog that I and I'm sure a lot of us, have learned how to do things with fountain pens, maintainance etc, also to be able to visually experience so many pens / inks.
    I think this is a new/good idea but how you continue the input will be of intetest. The pens you take to work, Gordon H Bennet... I hope you're well insured. What if you left that lot in a taxi or on a bus. Sorry to be so pessimistic but shit happens,, regularly!
    But hey there Doc... Those who watch your stuff love you for doing it, remember most of us can't afford one of these pens you carry so I would ask you not to forget about the jinhao, kaigelu, dollar or other inexpensive products we all use.
    Best wishes to all pen people.

    Great and enjoyable video. I don't think you necessarily have to do this every week because I'm sure there are two or three of your pens that never leave the pouch from week to week. So just make them whenever you feel like it and don't feel obliged to post a new video every week or so.

  • @AdrianMutu87

    I like the video style especially given you must write a lot as an academic and psychologist. A few questions:
    1) As someone who writes professionally, do you get 'writer's callus' and does the OMAS 360 prevent that completely?
    2) Do you worry about the combined worth you are carrying with you in case of losing them?
    3) When you are taking notes in a therapy session, what is your preferred nib size and what kind of paper do you use? (I'd like to know this since aspiring psychiatrist)
    Thank you so much, if you answer in a video, please indicate so I can find it.

    • @sbrebrown
      @sbrebrown  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I heve never developed a writer's callus. I do think that if one were to develop one, the 360 probably wouldn't stop it from happening, as there's still a lot of contact between finger and pen. I've never really worried about value, but I do lock the pens up if I leave my office. I don't do therapy, but if I see participants, I like a finer nib, because it tends to be less picky as to paper. I usually just use work-supplied (yet surprisingly fountain pen friendly) paper.

  • @foxxx040
    @foxxx040 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I enjoy this new format quite a bit. As a former academic who used fountain pens to grade and comment on student papers, I found that a fine nib worked best on the dreadful copy paper students use. I prefer a medium or stub nib for my own writing,, but those tend to bleed through the paper terribly. I was told by my adviser to not use red ink in grading. Students tend to see anything in red as saying they did something wrong. Actually, I think that this is an old wives tale. I've never seen any research on this. It's probably an academic folk tale - the PhD. version of the Billy Goat's Gruff.

    I have a fountain pen revolution pen roll. I carry 6 pens in it. a vintage flexpen, another vintage that's an everyday writer, a med italic pilot prera, a finepount twsbi 580, a modern flex pen (guru) and a broad italic calligraphy pen. I'm an art teacher, so I like to have options.😁 if I'm going to be finishing a drawing I usually like to have a cheap eye dropper like a noodlers Charlie filled with something like d atramentis document black, as well. I only put tricky ink in cheap eye droppers that can be disassembled very easily. I like to rotate my vintage pens which is why I didn't specify but as for Flex pens I do prefer my Watermans 52 1/2
