I had the exact opposite experience. I was hassled much more in Thailand. I've been offered boom boom maybe twice here in two months. I love Danang because it feels like a real city just doing it's thing. Tourist areas in Thailand feel a bit sad to me with all the massage places and girlie bars and restaurant touts, all begging for business. Here the tourist area is just a very small part of the city and easy to avoid. If you want a real local area with loads of food options check out Chau Thi Vinh Te around Do Ba. Also I wouldn't call what you saw a farm. Locals will often just take over empty lots and create gardens. They don't even own them. Guerilla gardening if you like. It's not a sign of poverty, it's just neighbouring home owners grabbing some land for food production which I think is really cool.
ok wow, firstly I stand corrected on the farm thing, I had no idea, thats actually really awesome. Secondly, im shocked! I spent over a month in Chiang Mai and was hassled basically never. Here, it must have been the area I stayed in, because it was relentless and I have been warned numerous times by people that I need to protect and not show my camera because ill get robbed, its so strange how we can have such different experiences hey
@@JustAlexVidotto "not show my camera because ill get robbed" or your phone. i heared that advice in Saigon, but In Da Nang not yet. this a reason i live in Da Nang 10 years 😂
You are correct about the ‘farm’. Also Vietnamese like everything fresh so they plant vegetables and fruit trees wherever they find a piece of empty land. Almost every Vietnamese family I know on the US would cut down all the trees which don’t produce eatable fruits in their garden and grow fruit trees or vegetables.
Danang was fantastic in 2011. I see its becoming like Canggu, Bali which saddens me. Still we cant stop progress I suppose. My friend said all the nguoi nuoc ngoai are in An thuong district so maybe Danang still has its character. During the French occupation Tourane/Danang was just a fishing town and its just boomed in the last 8 years.
Oh yeah! Ive heard a few people say its turning into bali, because I feel like they are building a lot of things to attract the party scene and short term tourism, if that makes sense. Im sure in 2011 it would have been stunning!
Never got Hassled in Vietnam, maybe SaPa but compared to Thailand or Bali bugger all and been there many times, 12,15, 17 and 23 thanks to covid. The Herb and Veg Gardens are only temp but its amazing Iv travelled all through Asia and Vietnam is the only country were Iv seen the people do that everywhere else just becomes a dump sight. Vietnam is actually really developed compared to a lot of countries especially after hundreds of years of torturous rule by foreign nations.
Yeah! Ive travelled a lot through asia too, and ive never seen the gardens, its such a smart idea, I really am shocked that they do that, but in a good way. I need to go visit other areas of Vietnam to compare too, I can certainly see sections that are super developed but it also felt like a lot were not (of course).
You're seeing the glass half empty, people knew Danang they see Danang glass half full. Danang was dirt poor in 2000 back, it only developed when they started to build all those bridges, before the bridges Danang only a small town nestled on the Han river, with only 3 districts . Along the beaches were fishing villages, no city whatsoever........Up till 2005 Vietnamese still say Hue, Saigon, Hanoi when they recall all the central hub in Vietnam, Danang was nothing in 2005, nobody cares about Danang, when they went to central Vietnam it was the imperial Hue city. Danang has grown from 6000ha in 2005 to 20.000ha, and still growing with all the suburban around it.
Ok im sorry if it came across that way, I did not know that, so you are a local to Da Nang? Do you like all the tourists coming to your city? I think its good but it feels weird to see all the mix of both, I hope the locals are happy with how fast its growing. 😊 I think it still has a lot of beautiful sections and amazing things about it! 😊
Hope you enjoy Danang Alex. The area you stay (as I see in the video) is quite "local", so the price I think would be cheap, but there might be not many shops,... The "My An" ward is the place where most Digital Nomads and tourists choose to stay, there's a lot of shops there that can meet your needs. Besides the popular places in Da Nang that you can find the list on the internet, I highly love the nature places like Son Tra peninsula, Ban Co peak - there's a barrier on the way to the peak, but you can park your bike there and climb up, and we have Hai Van pass, Hòa Bắc, etc. Furthermore, there are cool spots next to Da Nang that you visit by scooter, like Hoi An or Hue City. One annoying thing in Da Nang at this time is the weather. It's super weird, it can be hot in the morning and turn to hard rain in the afternoon. So you might want to check out the weather forecast before planning your trip. Take care, Alex. Hope you have a good time in my beloved city.
Oh wow, thank you for the comment and information. Yes I can see the area is not many digital nomads haha, there is lots of locals and cheap food, its delicious! Today I drove through the mountains and it was so beautiful, Da Nang really has some absolute amazing locations throughout it. Thank you so much for the information, I really do appreciate it! 😊
I would prefer by the river personally, because you can go to both sides of the city from that way. But by the beach is beautiful too, it depends on what kind of lifestyle you want to live 😊
I can completely understand why you say this, there is lot's of things designed for tourists and I can see in a couple years it will for sure be that way 😔
@@JustAlexVidotto As someone born and raised in Da Nang for 30 years, I have to say there is no chance. Tourists and digital nomads usually stay in the beach area. Currently they account for less than 10% of the population there. Things designed for tourists because Danang is a tourist city, people make a living from tourists. Even the city government dedicates the beach area to attract tourists and digital nomads. Danang people like to live in the city center because most of their jobs are here, prices are cheaper and the food is better than the beach area because there are many eateries so the price and quality are more competitive
Won't happen Bali is one small city Vietnam has a totally different demographic but also a much different government. How many 30 story hi rises do you see in Bali.
Welcome to Da Nang Alex, it's maybe less things to entertain than Bangkok but for sure you'll earn an actual life here, and it's another whole country. Btw the locals are just doing gardening there in those hard shoulders while there're not developers yet, and those abandoned buildings will be come into force later on, I will concern about the possible traffic jam then :v
Thank you so much for the welcome, yeah im not the type of person who likes night clubs or busy cities anyway so this is perfect, also the gardening thing has really shocked me, its so smart and cool that they do that. Haha I think traffic will become even more crazy in the next few years 😆
