My son and daughter used to work in the Swansea store when it first opened and the staff discount I used to get was insane🤣. The amount of Rab, Montane, Scarpa kit etc etc I bought was mad. Still have most of it too. Go Outdoors is a great place to buy kit and not get overcharged like Cotswold as I’ve bought plenty from there too. 😉👍🏼
Tiso, millets, blacks, ultimate outdoors, Go, all part of the same company. The place looks amazing and the business plan, similar to Lewis's by having shop in shops is pretty sound allowing for such a big range of products. Very nice.
nice to see a spaced out store all the ones down south near me they have packed as much into the stores it difficult to walk around. Plus so many own branded items like OEX.
We moved from a pole-Berghaus to an Air4 a couple of years ago. My husband was very sceptical but I did a lot of research on robustness beforehand and it is definitely the way to go.
Next time we go to York I’ll drop the wife off to see my brother in law and his family and I’ll pop off to GO for a few hours. The Coventry store by me was pretty dire the last time I went in. The tents were outside and the state of them, they looked more like a refugee camp in Syria.
1 min in.... "Just going to have a walk round ".... Ok guys, place your bets on how much Paul spends before the end of the video .... I reckon over £500 😂😂
Right, I wrote that before Jo walked into frame..... And then reduced my guess by £499.... Excellent video and im going there next time I'm in the area (and leaving credit cards behind )
Went there last week, an amazing store with everything under one roof, nice to have such a large camping and tent section as well as a great bike section too.
Thank you. I might have to visit that store. We have a branch here in Scunthorpe. I get my boots from there, the staff are very helpful. I was in there on Wednesday and bought an oversize hoodie. One size fits all. Amazingly warm, fleecy lined. Wearing it right now. ilona
Enjoyed the walk about ... A good plan to just go with intention to browse ....Only problem if going to pick up something in mind ,, after seeing all the competition at one place ,, wind up confused and getting nothing ... but maybe take along a notepad to compare thoughts when you get home ..( although in todays world ,, a phone video clip or photo ) ... Nice to see all the different hobbies at one stop ... have to realize the savings of not driving all over the city or state ... buying online saves the commuting to a site but sometimes not satisfied with the product ... and not aware of other brand options ... Thanks for the tour ...
As it’s my home town I went just after it was opened by Helen Skelton a few months ago. It’s Mecca for the camping fraternity. I spent about two hours in there and bought some BBQ skewers (it’s how I roll) 😂
When ever I've been into Go Outdoors, my local one being Doncaster, I have to ask myself three questions. Do I want it? Do I need it? Can I afford it? If I can't answer all three positively, then I don't buy the item(s). . I suspect that when I get to Go Outdoors York, I will have to amend the three questions to four. The fourth one being: Can I justify the purchase? Then with a quick amendment to the rules: any three from four......I foresee my bank accounts being raided to the point of Overdraftageddon.
That store in Florida is a small city. Visited Florida 20 years ago for a work trip. Got dragged there by a work at colleague. Spent the entire afternoon there... But could easily have spent the entire day there
That was a nice store. Looks like our Bass Pro Shops and Cabelas in the colonies. The big stores here have an annoying habit of putting them in the worst area of cites with the worst traffic which discourages me from wanting to go through that.
There's one near me in Cleveland, and the traffic is so bad near it that it's almost quicker to go to the one on the north end of Columbus. That area is really busy too, but it's all right turns for me to get there. I tend toward REI, though.
Paul i want to see you surprise Jo with a lovely glamping experience. Something i know you wouldn't be interested in for yourself. But as Gary would say..."Let's give it a go". Regards Leonard.
Looks good. Great video Paul. You’ve probably just cost me a visit and a wallet emptying trip to York tomorrow 😂 weather is not the best so why not stock up. 😂
that is a big store. couple of things jumped out at me, the outwell tent and that flat pack conservatory/ pagoda thingy. bet its not cheap though. i have the outwell but steel poled. its done us great and really good tent. toyed with the idea of airbeam but the steel poled ones done us so good and stands up to all weather no issue whereas airbeams will crumple a lot.might have to have a visit
The British Army had a low level camp cot like the one you featured at about the 20 minute mark. I think it dated back to the 60s or 70s, and they are difficult to find these days. The frame was solid metal, but the design is very similar to a lot of the modern day versions. Comfortable, gets you off the ground, and no need for a roll mat or similar. Not for the ultralight crowd.
@@paulcharlton4788 nope, the British army ones didn't have 'legs' per se. You need to look at the design to see how they're put together, but yes, modern tents can be a bit flimsy.
@@and3583 my Dad had one from his time, which I wish he would have kept. Pretty sure he got rid of it. Low profile and more comfortable than a roll mat on the ground that's for sure.
I’ve just brought the fisherman’s bed -chair it was on sale at my local go outdoors £50 it’s good for when I go family camping with my kids .very very comfy it’s another level from airbeds/mattresses.
I've been looking at those. At the moment I car camp with a sunlounger in my Focus estate which is adequate. I might ask to try one of those bedchairs to see if it will fit in the space behind the passenger seat.
No better person Paul to show us around an outdoor store. Yorkshire was always ahead with outdoor tourism. Yorkshire county has more tourism than the entire country of Northern Ireland.
Impressive store that…certainly beats my local one in Chesterfield….as for cots I’m using the one Tigris supranubis…I use when working away painting empty houses just chuck on a air mat and your away!
Wow, that's one amazing place. I bet it could be lethal on the wallet though. Best bit of the video was Jo looking at the roof tents.... She's going for it. Jo "No she's not" 🤣
Greetings from North Borneo ❤ Hey Paul...this video must have been a tough edit with so much outdoor gear on display. Great idea to share a shop walk-around 👍 How on earth does someone decide what to buy 😅
@PaulMessner Hahaha 😆 We can all relate to that 🤣 Thanks for sharing all your outings with us. I love seeing the English cold weather from here in North Borneo 😍
Might be a bit off brand for your channel Paul, but I wonder if you have made the same observation I did some years ago, with regards to pricing in the UK? I like the Stanley brand and I have a number of items of theirs and would like to get more. However, when you look at the range they have in the US, vs the UK, there is a much smaller range of products, but often where there are the same products, the price difference can be eye watering. The base camp cook set, on the US site, described as being 26 pieces, is $90, whereas the most similar item on the UK store, is described as being 21 pieces, but instead is £160. The two cup cook set, in the US $20, in the UK< on Amazon (not available on their website), it is £45. This is just one example. Non camping but Apple as another example, if an iphone is $1000, you can guarantee that in the UK it will be at least £1000+ Can't help but feel we are getting totally ripped off by American brands.
Go Outdoors was quite good at one time but since the buyout by JD Sports I'm seeing more and more Peter Storm , Craghoppers, OEX and other own brand products at the expense of many of the more premium brands. I often go in but I rarely buy anything there these days.
Not wanting to give anyone ideas, but a few years ago there was an "ikea challenge" where folk hid in wardrobes and spent the night in the store. I wonder if anyone's camped out in that shop for the night?!
@@PaulMessnerI’m like that with guitars, Paul. It's clearly not Europe's biggest outdoor store, it's indoors.
I'll, uhm, get my coat 😬
You should go indoors, at go outdoors… plenty of choices for coats there :D just don’t forget an umbrella lol
