Am I the only one who feels the "discount price" is just the actual price, and the RRP is just made-up bollocks? What maniac is paying 700 quid for a smallish looking tent?! 400 discount price is the high end of tent prices I thought?? Or some of those jackets for 330 RRP being "reduced" to 198? So it's still a 200 quid jacket? Sheesh!
Surely everyone always knew RRP is nonsense, but it should also be obvious that members' prices, discounts, and "sales" just the actual intended price, and the "regular" price is a bluff to make those look like bargains. Ignore the size of price drop; what matters is whether it's worth the asking price.
Discount doesn’t exist. You are absolutely correct. The RRP is just an inflated number to make the actual price seem like a bargain. This practice used to be illegal but it’s not monitored anymore. The government doesn’t care as long as they get the VAT.
Great shop Paul Ive been going since it first started in a small room around 2008 when Mark originally run the outlet. Since then they have expanded and made it into a mega outlet and Ben is a top bloke . Well worth the trip 👍
So many years back one of my best friends worked as store manager at the British arctic expedition in Cambridge. As we shared a house are garage would end up filled with stuff at the end of an expedition or when they got the yearly grant . So much stuff was going in the skip . A couple of the things I remember was my sleeping bag which was over £600 in 1990, some really amazing sets of boots and tons of these great coats and cagoules made of some stuff called gore-tex. This was years before I had the internet so I just used it and realised how good it was not realising what it was . I can only imagine what some of it would cost nowadays.
I agree the prices of some stuff seem, at first glance, very very high. But think how many uses you get..then compare it to one single holiday. Feels much more worth it all the sudden. Potentially hundreds of little trips when one holibob costs close to a grand each these day. 100% worth it, will be taking a trip down there asap.

Most of the items were on sale online and a very similar price to in that store, so you’re not actually saving anything. On some items it was actually cheaper on online.
Funny enough but most of RAB and similar equipment/clothing is made for extreme conditions(mountaineering, expeditions and etc) and not your average Sunday stroll in a Lake District. Proper gear can and will save your life. Now how much you value your life is probably personal. If you are simply walking when sun is out for a few hours on weekend you don't need this stuff. I'm big RAB fan and once you try it in a certain conditions - you will not want anything else and then you can actually justify "high" price.

That's never going to happen, but you might hit the stage where you realize you're usually not accomplishing anything by doing so and stop doing it. The urge to "upgrade" will always be there, though. Makers know this, which is why they keep releasing new products that are functionally no better than something else they've already been selling for years. It's why Osprey makes the Rook backpack that would be more aptly named the Hook. It's a good quality pack but it's not the kind of pack you'd buy an Osprey for. It's purposely designed to both get you used to having an Osprey *and* disappoint you at the same time. That way you're very likely to come back in 6 months and buy a $350 Atmos to get what you wanted. Now they've got you for two packs when, were it not for the Hoo... I mean the Rook, you'd have probably been perfectly happy with that $150 Kelty you were originally looking at.

It's not something anyone wants or expects but if someone has to go looking for you, is there an onus on us as backpackers, walkers, hikers to make it as easy as possible for them?
Affordable outdoor clothing can be found at Decathlon.
I visit this place quite often but frequently find little in my size, namely L for Large. Some good stuff though.
Backpacking gear at half price !!!
How very exciting
What a great little outdoor equipment emporium…thankfully for my wallet though, 288 miles away?! 😩😂
Maybe a wee detour if heading south this summer. 😜
Enjoying these daily vlogs, Paul 👍🏻
Im enjoying ur vids that arent hiking and camping
Great video going to pay this place a visit cheers Paul
The poofy jacket section ooh matron
Seems like an advert for the shop with overblown prices artificially dropped to a normal price. Definitely not cheap.
So far,so good !Keep going🤘
I asked Mountain Outfitters if I could do a “shop with me” video there and they told me jog on 🤔😂
It's not "what" you know Ben 😂
@@darrens3052 too scared to let me in 💅🏻🤣
Maybe they only want to help out real wild campers....?
@@GA99911 🤣 what’s a real wild camper 🤷♂️
Didn't know about this place and I almost pass it on the way home from work! Oh no.
Went this morning. Think everyone there was as a result of this video!! Hope you’re on a commission 😂
That Latok is an absolute belter of a deal.
Very enjoyable. We all love to shop. 😂
Wish I lived closer to this place! Some bargains there.
Mortgage to buy a house or go shopping at that place?! It's Aldi middle isle for me and most folk
The shopkeeper is SUPER nice. Damn !
love a bargain me 😊 good to see you keeping it varied 👍 its all about diversification 🤔
Interesting to see what gear costs over your way compared to down under. 🙂
One of my ESSENTIAL stops when I'm in the UK......... Took a friend there at beginning of May, I spent under £100, they spent closer to £1000! (new to the outdoor adventures scene) I also go to Mountain Kit in Ashington, it's the Montane equivalent....... Pretty much all of my clothing & sleeping bags are by these two manufacturers, bought at the very least at 50% less than retail. Nice. ATB
Is it still open? Google has it as 'permanently closed'?
@@mikemclennan8917yes they are still open I was in the store tonight 👍
@@mikemclennan8917 Yeah still open, they moved about 500yds from where they used to be........ Just type "Montane Factory Outlet Shop" into Google and it'll give you the address. ATB
@@mikemclennan8917 I was there beginning of May & it was open, they've recently moved to new premises but it's only about 500-odd mtrs from where they were...... Fairly easy to find. ATB
Yep al came to 20 quid love 😂 used that one a few times!
