    Such beautiful roses! Do not worry too much about the blackspot, please, it is part and parcel of the game ;-)

    Oh, I need a Boscobel!! Your Olivia Rose Austin is all "Look out world, I got to bloom!" Rosemary Harkness is simply luminous. I 'm waiting until bareroot season to buy my Woollerton but in the meantime I'll just enjoy yours. I wasn't planning to get a Leonardo b/c the color is a bit bright for me, but yours is so lovely that I might change my mind there. Like yours, my Sceptred Isle is a bit leggy & sparse of leaves, but has lovely flowers, maybe that's just how this one rolls! Ueterson & Pomponella are absolutely loaded with buds, unbelievable! I might have to get me a Desdemona, too. I've had Eden, but takes up so much room & little/no scent! It looks like all the Parfuma roses are winners, even the one you thought might not make the cut is looking well---Summer Romance is on its way to being one of my very favorites. Sorry the blackspot was so wicked this year, but if my garden looked half as well as yours, I'd be pretty happy! Thanks for the tour!

      Hi vintage lady I wouldn’t be without boscobel. A lovely scent and flowered non stop for me last year pretty much. An abundance of flowers but not so much this year. Rosemary Harkness I am forgiving the blackspot this year. With its fragrance and long lasting flushes those flowers just grab attention. Even the naked one in the back I’m not fussed about. Pomponella I don’t get scent from but back of border I hope will shine. Uetersen I occasionally get a nice scent from but she will need a fair amount of support in time. I get what you say about Leonardo. Way to strong a colour but in the flesh it looks better. Watching this video Rosemary, ancient mariner or dark desire had the edge on screen but in the flesh Leonardo took the end of video prize. And it’s flowers last for ages. No scent for me but gorgeous flowers. Desdemona an awesome rose.

    Your dog is BEAUTIFUL! So glad he helped with the garden tour. I’m really starting to consider the parfuma collection, they’re all so gorgeous. The Royal Parfuma is stunning and I love Bliss and Spicy Parfuma too. Your Leonardo Davinci rose is spectacular, I’ve seen that rose here and there and it really is breathtaking. All of my plants are in their first year and sometimes when one is behind I will give it a small dose of water soluble rose food every couple days, but not too much and after two weeks or so I start to see an improvement. I learned just a little though maybe 1/3 of the scoop because I accidentally overfed a rose or two. Works really well with the smaller plants that need a boost. You know a 1/2 cup of epsom salt per rose bush worked into the soil just once or twice a season has given me a TON of new shoots. I don’t think that’s highly recommended if they haven’t already been fed but I’ve seen a lot of people do it and for me it really increased the number of basal canes.

    Dear JayJay, you have such wonderful roses! I watch all your videos and I like the way how you are showing us your lovely flowers. I am also collecting roses. Princess Anne did not grow very well in its first two years in my garden, but now it is a tough little shrub with a lot of butts on it. Also black spott is a problem for my roses. This year it is really terrible 😮. But I also do not spray my plants.

    That's better! You must be very pleased with the way things are looking now - a lot of very beautiful roses for you (and us) to enjoy! Makes all the hard work worthwhile. A nice plug for The Ancient Mariner - maybe we can encourage more people to grow it. My Boscobel, Queen of Sweden and Silas Marner are still not in flower, and some others only have 2 or 3 blooms, but I'm hoping in another week I'll have a good display on most of my roses too. Let's all hope that the best is yet to come after a poor summer.

      Indeed nik the strangest year with so many false dawns. I honestly believe the lack of sunshine, wet weather, strong winds and early in the year heat and dry have knocked the roses back a good 4 weeks on last year. But the flush that… perhaps (yes I don’t wanna speak too soon) this flush that is happening now shows great promise. Even if it has left me with a good dose of blackspot on many of the normally resistant roses.

    Hi JayJay, good to see your roses, they are lovely! I‘ve got blackspot in some of my roses too! They came early this year, we had continuous heavy rain for 10 days early August then now we are having high temperature of 31 degrees Celsius. I just removed the affected leaves. My roses are performing well for second flush. All the Parfuma roses are making me happy and my red Leonardo da Vinci rose is covered with lots of blooms. How’s your Mom‘s roses doing now?

    Well done Jay!! Fantastic display on your second flush. Olivia and destemona are in expert hands both impressive. Seeing your pompenella covered in buds makes me want her. • @Jay_Jay
      @Jay_Jay  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha made me smile. It’s abit late to offer me roses now there’s no space for them. Pomponella took sometime well a long time and effort to get that spot in the ground freed up from my wife’s tight grip (I’m sure you know what I’m talking about:)) . But back of border where you won’t miss its non fragrance I think a great spot to admire its flowering. Long duration of flowers and usually does well in rain. Desdemona I want in the ground after seeing yours. The only way to really see it’s full potential long term. But it can’t go in the ground where it is. A real shame. But after seeing yours I might have a reshuffle in the new front bed that will get great sun also. :)

    I would definitely recommend Sweet Parfume, it has now got so many blooms it is amazing. Hopefully Peter will get some new plants in. Just a heads up Rumwood Rose nursery now have a half price sale, most rose are roughly £6.50 each. Managed to get Dr Jamain and Louise Odier and they good size plants. I am luck I live nearby and could not resist.

      Sweet Parfume? Do you mean sweet parfume de Provence aka the anniversary rose aka Dee lish aka line Renauld? If so I have that one newly potted a few weeks ago. That is a rose that stopped me in my tracks at Peter beales and at eastcroft. I’m going to see Peter at eastcroft in the morning and I know he has some new varieties so stay tuned. Hopefully wind won’t destroy it again but I’ll have a look anyway. Louise odier I nearly bought that rose so many times. A lovely scent. At rumwoods they had a double size Dutches of cornwall I nearly bought it but I already have one. That would be a great purchase for someone if that’s half price also. We must have very similar weather I hope your garden is doing well this last week.

      That is the one, it is one of my favourites other than Souvenir Dr Jamain. All the roses are doing well although most are babies including four from Peter. I have a Pacific Blue, Giardina and Koko Loko. I also have some cutting that I am trying to establish, wish me luck. This year has been great for the flowers but terrible for the foliage, had problem with black spot and mildew. We have also had caterpillars and leaf cutters having a chomp at the leaves. We are quite sheltered being at the base of the North Downs but the rain has been relentless. Hoping we do not have a severe winter. Decided to look after the roses I have got and not buy any others this year, the purse is now closed until next year. I love the doggy, so cute.

      @Jay_Jay  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@helenalexanderbristow1187 arrr yes I know you. You got that pacific blue I filmed at peters a month or so back. He only had one so you must have bought the one I filmed. Did you see that video ? I know a few people saw it but the wind destroyed it so I didn’t release it openly. A great rose you have there. And by sounds of it a great collection. Your garden sounds like it’s doing better than mine I can’t say the flowers have done well this year but we are exposed where we are. And the wind and elements have been relentless until very recently (we are ontop of a ridge overlooking the Weald). Guardina is a rose I saw in Norfolk and actually filmed for memories sake. A great scent. Koko loca another i have seen before and looks lovely. Unusual colouring which helps make it. :)

      @@Jay_Jay oops, sorry. The Pacific Blue is amazing, recommended by a friend. Between us we bought 10 roses. Came home looking like a mobile florist, had plenty of thorn marks on our arms and legs. Going to East Croft is certainly an experience and the plants are so healthy, Peter should be very proud of his plants. Looking forward to seeing how they perform next year when they are a little older. Managed to get a rose arch for Giardina as heard she can be quite a climber, already have Falstaff climbing up my rickety old arch and he has had his best year so far. Fingers crossed we have a slightly less moist summer in 2024.

    In my garden I use Neem oil for black spot and diseases in general. It's absolutely natural. 10 ml of oil per L of water every 3 weeks. Spray dusk or dawn. Black spot attacks especially when humidity is high. All your roses are very beautiful ! 🌹

      Yes thank you. I did spray my roses earlier in the season trying to keep the rabbits off as I heard neem oil it was one of the things that could work against them.( It didn’t). Now I have been lazy I guess trying to keep the blackspot away. As you can see I’ve even given up trying to pluck the leaves away. Next year I will throw more energy at it if dampness starts to be a problem. and hopefully will catch it early. Thank you. ;)

    Just a word on your leonardo. Ive got several on their way. We have a public park, near belfast, formerly a gentlemans residence. Sir Thomas and Lady Dickson park. It hosts international rose trials every year. I paid a couple of visits this year and about 60% of the plants have been trashed by wind, rain and blackspot, a very poor show. But one of the standouts was Leonardo, surrounded by hundreds of trashed roses it looks healthy, vigorous and unaffected by blackspot. Gertrude was the same and another was ‘its a wonderful life’ by Colin Dixon of newtownards, gorgeous blooms, very vigorous, loaded with unaffected buds despite torrential storms. So if your leonardo has bad blackspot then your whole garden seems heavily under pressure from this blight. I follow a method from a Dutch nursery involving copper spray in spring and a dilute sulphur spray as soon as leaves appear. This has kept BS at bay BUT nothing can keep BS from erupting in Golden Contamination, Poets wife , Boscobel and desdemona. Hmmm wonder why its the DA roses. For me there are some roses that seem to be responsible for contaminating other plants that otherwise would be free of it. I definitely work at keeping this at bay or it will ravage my entire collection. BTW, I remember you saying you got a rose from Colin Dickson, hes retiring so if you wanted anything from him, nows the time. He’s from a long line of famous Irish rose breeders. Glad Ive got some of his roses now. And Cants of Colechester have close too, what a pity, I liked them.😢

    • @Jay_Jay
      @Jay_Jay  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi roontunes. What you say doesn’t surprise me at all. We have a crematorium near us that I’ve visited a couple of times this season. Easy over thousand roses. I spoke to one of the gardners on my first visit and he… comforted me in the fact he stated it was the worse year for roses he’d witnessed. Awful blackspot and lack of flowers. But the stand out performer for me in that crematorium was Leonardo. He had a few beds of them with over a hundred of them easily. All looked healthy and on both visits the most floracious. For you to order several of them I’m sure you’ll be pleased. Mine is not helped because of its congestion. Next year I will make sure they breath better and also I will not leave them to see what happens. This year I was curious as to wether or not it would spread to my known healthy roses and I got my answer. This is a video I done for gav on my last visit but it gives some idea on how well the numerous Leonardos done there.
