    I carried a revolver for the first 20 years of my 30 year LEO career and used it to defend myself three times on the job. I’ve been retired since ‘97 and my EDC continues to be a J frame thirty-eight. Good video.

      Thanks. I had one person show me how momentum is a real thing, even with the same energy a 45 acp has more momentum than a 9mm. I am sure the same thing plays out in a .38 special over a 380, and even sometimes in a 9x19.

    Back when cops carried revolvers, they had to learn shot placement to make sure those first five or six rounds would count without having to reload. These days it's not unusual to hear of police shooting where 20 or 30 or more rounds were fired, and a few even hit the intended target...

      I have heard of several instances of cops using the spray-and-pray method of returning fire and hitting persons other than the perp. That incident in Louisville where the woman was shot in her apartment is a good example--the perp fired one round, the cops replied with a couple dozen rapid shots, and the perp wasn't even hit, but the woman, who was unarmed, was killed. That is piss-poor training. Cops should be taught when returning fire to fire one or two shots, then STOP FIRING and look to see what effect their shots have had. In many cases either the perp is down, or is running away. How many people have been unnecessarily killed by cops going full-Rambo?

    • @DS..69
      @DS..69 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@gregb6469 Well, training equals time, which equals money. Agencies do not want to pay for Cops shooting all day, instead of patrolling. You would think they would since a lawsuit probably costs a city or county much more.

      It was not a .38 Special, however, my Charter Arms .44 Special snub was a good revolver for me. Mine was in stainless steel, not the blue "Son of Sam signature model." This was back in the time that Charter was making quality guns.

    • @GunSam
      @GunSam  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I hear that Charter still makes good guns. I have heard that it was only during a certain time when they called themselves "Charter 2000" that the guns were bad. I think this was sometime before and after the year 2000. I hear that current production is great, and I have often thought about trying a Bulldog myself. I am not a fan of guns with transfer bars, but Charter is the company that invented them so maybe theirs are better than Taurus transfer bars.

    • @stephen8433
      @stephen8433 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sam, the Bulldog I had was great. Very well made and a joy to shoot. I used Winchester Silvertips. I think this was back in the 80's. I first started with Charter with a .38 snub, I think it was the "Undercover." The trigger pull was very smooth. Both of these were reliable and well made.
      I sold them, later, after Charter had changed hands I bought another Undercover, and it had problems, obviously, they were having quality control problems.
      I hope they are good guns now. I really believe in the Bulldog philosophy. I would be interested to know how yours works out for you if you do purchase the Bulldog.

    • @GunSam
      @GunSam  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I may or may not get a Bulldog at some point. Lately I been a S&W man all the way, but I wouldn't mind a .44! I have about 1,000 .44 mag brass, I wonder how hard it would be to trim those down to .44 special length?

    I know some people who have answered the knock on their front door and they had their weapon on their body and when they open the door, they are shot point blank. If someone knocks on my door, I look through the peep hole first, if I don't know the individual, I do not open the door nor do I ask "Who is it"! I keep quiet and play the waiting game. If they try the door handle or attempt to break the door down, I wait til they have breached the door and then I waste the idiot. By opening the front door you are exposing your chest area to the individuals firearm and your chances of getting to your weapon is slim to none. Revolvers are my choice for personal weapons for home defense.

    As for squib loads, an even better plan is realizing that if you DO have a squib load when you are trying to save your life, just pull the trigger again. It will most likely push both bullets out the barrel and 99% of well made revolvers can survive a few of those. Instant malfunction clearing is just pulling the trigger.

I had a LCP I liked it for being little but as my arthritis is getting bad in my hands I can’t rack the slide no more and so I got the C Arms and love it I can put in my waistband and go

    I've only carried my G19, & occasionally G26 for several years primarily concealed. Never had an issue with a revolver especially 357 mag, but with the improvement of amazing defensive ammo for 9mm, the ease & cost of shooting, reliability of platforms like Glock, & generally two to three times the capacity as well as quicker reloads makes a compact or even a sub compact 9mm really stand out as the go-to for daily carry. With that said I love revolvers especially a 357 mag so when I got a great deal on a barely used Ruger SP101 in 357 w/ a 2.25" inch barrel I jumped on it. I grabbed a Clipdraw clip, & some quickstrips & pouch for reloads & love carrying the snubby appendix. While I am sure 5 rounds will be enough I was second guessing my decision tonight when a couple thugs were acting a little weird in the store tonight, but I think it is largely going from carrying nearly 30 rounds of 9mm vs 17 357 (2 reloads & +2). That feeling will take some getting used to, & I will likely carry my Glock if we get back to scum rioting, or if I am heading to rough parts of town. I do really enjoy having that Clipdraw on my stainless revolver though as I can simply carry it appendix with the clip on my pistol belt, & when I hop in my truck or Jeep I can easily reposition it for a cross draw which is much handier in a vehicle. While I love my Crossbreed Supertuck holster the freedom of not needing a holster is nice.

      I agree and you're addressing the "peaceful protests" and those random "pop ups" trying to get through an intersection or some craziness inside a store You want to be ready ( purchased another Mossy 1- home/ 1- away insurance)
      I think what I like about having a 2-inch snubby 357 is that maybe the only time I wouldn't be able to defend myself would be in the shower It's go time 24/7 you don't have to worry or think is one of the chamber charge it It's just go time
      I know it doesn't have the count my Glocks have and I love my G19 and G26 but with all the b******* that went down last year and with the "indigenous shoppers" the police stand downs and this overwhelming socialist wave whether I'm getting my mail or out in the trenches I'm going to have a say who wants to f*** my day up! 👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

    I'm 52 yrs old and enjoyed the privilege of owning a Taurus 38spl snubbie, a CZ75 and a 45 M1911 over a period of 30 years. I have also used at least another 8 different firearms owned by friends and the only one I truly miss is the revolver. By far the easiest to carry, the most trouble free, the lowest "maintenance" and the quickest to get into action in a emergency. FACTS. Especially at 3am in the morning when you're shaken awake for an emergency. Every handgun has pros & cons - EVERY one - and the key issue to consider is what you are buying it for. For close range personal defence the snubbie revolver (38 / 357 / 44) is the one you should always have.........

    Another reason to CCI a LCR vs LCP is that when the time comes to to use it, the person who wants to hurt you will be more intimidated by looking at the LCR than by looking at the LCP.

    I really like snubbies and have several. My go-to carry is a relatively inexpensive Taurus Total Titanium .38. All-in-all, accuracy, lightweight, trigger pull, shooting comfort, and ease of carry among others, this gun beats my much more expensive S&Ws. Also, I have an older inexpensive stainless Rossi .38 snubbie. If it's raining, dusty, sandy, muddy, any situation where I wouldn't want to take out my better guns, I grab the Rossi. Bulletproof.

      The first handgun I ever fired was a revolver in about 1994 that a friend's dad had, seemed easy to shoot. Many years later I shot some semi-auto's with a friend and soon figured out that they didn't point well for me, the tops just looked like a block, and I decided back then a revolver would be better. Skip ahead a few more years and when I went to buy my first handgun, it made sense to me to go for a revolver.

    The 2 inch 38 revolver, preferentially a Colt d frame, is the best compromise of size , weight and power. I have carried a hammer shrouded 80s vintage or a steel frame Colt Detective Special for years. With either BuffaloStandard or plus p 158 you have fight stopping power. The Agent usually rises in a pocket holster. If I really feel the need for more rounds , I will carry a second revolver. I can shoot the little Colts as well or better than most can shoot a medium frame 4 inch revolver. Most have been fed a bunch of crap about “ tactical “ firepower, which for personal defense is pretty much bullshit . You need more rounds if you miss a lot. There is a reason aColt is getting back in the da revolver market . They see the future. Civilians are going to be Magazine restricted, Glock owns the hicap polymer police market. Colt will go for the impossible to restrict da revolver, and the 1911 semiauto market, with a couple of 380 6 shot pocket pistols. I predict the return of the Diamondbacks and Anacondas but with variations of the new Python lock work.

    I picked up my little 38 used. I think it was actually south of $300, although I've long since lost the receipt. I was disappointed with my ability to shoot it at first. BUT it had something my G30 didn't have. I could just stick it in a pocket and go someplace where I didn't want to lug a 35oz (or whatever it was) gun that needed some extra clothing to conceal. I called it my "traveling light" gun because I didn't even bother with spare ammunition. Just had the five rounds. It did have some minor issues with the cylinder snagging. I learned a lot about J-Frames diagnosing and fixing that problem. It turned out the extractor rod was messed up. Got a replacement from Brownells and that fixed it. An Apex trigger spring kit made it easier to shoot. Kramer pocket holster hides it very well without it shifting about. If I was smart, I would have stopped looking for other carry guns.

    The one I purchased was immaculate in construction ,function,and groups were as good as my real Colt .38 Detective Special Gen.4 ,I purchased in 1974 New.{I once purchased a brand new 1975 Chevy Monte Carlo and on the way home the drive shaft and Transmission fell out on the ground] sorry I digress.I put a Pachmeyer grip on my RIA .38 and it even looks a good as my Colt .38.the machining had not one blemish,the only minus on this handgun was the horrible wooden handle and the purchase it has when you grip the firearm.The RIA .38 locked up really well, the firing pin was dead nuts centered on every casing of the first 150 rounds. The cylinder gap was as good as my Colt .38 which lines up and locks up like a tank hatch,so I would suggest your info could be directing a lot of People the wrong direction on this fine priced and one hellava deal on the price and value. I have searched high and low for a dependable .38 revolver because I could no longer carry my Colt .38 on my hip because of its value,I have been offered $1,100 plus I would not want it in a Police station evidence box God forbid I would ever have to defend myself and loved ones with it .I now carry the RIA .38 Special every day without a concern in any area. i would also recommend a Colt Python holster to carry the RIA snubby .38 .fits like a charm ,secure and comes out as smooth as a Baby's butt..

    Our carry choices in California are very limited by the roster (yes, average people can and do get carry permits). Micro pistols are limited so your best bet is a snub is. My main carry gun is the LCR in .38. Smooth tigger and accurate. That being said, even if it’s user friendly, it’s probably the worst gun for a first time shooter. I can put down 100+ rounds through my Glock/Beretta/Shield easy. No problems. 50 rounds through the LCR and the next day I’m feeling it at the base of my palm, thumb side.

    You can shoot gun next to your chest, no slide kick.
    You can shoot it from your pocket repetly.
    Like .38/.357 you have "two" guns. You can have easily differend loads and it still work well.

    • @GunSam
      @GunSam  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      One might also point out it's closer to 4 guns as .38 Long Colt and .38 Short Colt (modern loadings) can also be fired from it. So this also makes it capable of having recoil similar to a .22 LR with the Short Colt, which for some people is all they can handle. Saves money VS buying a whole new .22.

      @@GunSam I saw your video on the LCR .327. I'd prefer something of all metal construction and an exposed hammer. I realize the .327 Fed. Mag. is relatively recent, but I assume few revolvers are being made to fire it, because few people are interested in shooting it. A shame given it appears to perform well with some 40% less recoil than a comparable .357 Magnum.
