  • In this tutorial I will show how to knit my version of a seed stitch. NOTE: cast on an even number of stitches - knit 2 rows - Row Counter (RC) indicates 002 - bring to E position the second needle on the carriage side and Every Other Needle (EON) except the last needle - with a latch tool reform the stitches from the needles in E position into a stockinette stitch - knit 1 row - Row Counter (RC) indicates 003 - bring to E position the second needle on the carriage side and Every Other Needle (EON) except the last needle - with a latch tool reform the stitches from the needles in E position into a stockinette stitch - knit 1 row - repeat row 2 and 3.

Perfect timing. I was just wanting to start a baby blanket for my first real project and thoughts seed stitch border would look nice and keep it from curling.

Hi Theresa :) I agree the seed stitch is well worth the effort to prevent edges from rolling. I haven't made a tutorial about it yet but when knitting a project where the edges will be seen I like to slip the first stitch on the first needle closest to the carriage. All you need to do is manually unravel the stitch on the first needle closest to the carriage every row. It sounds time consuming but you have to reform the stitches every row anyway when doing seed stitch so unraveling the first stitch isn't that much more work and it creates a nice finish edge.
