This is why every multiplayer game needs community-run servers. They are (mostly) safe havens from the rampant cheating that goes on in matchmaking because it's at the admins' discretion who can or can't play on them, rather than having to rely on an automated and circumventable system.
Shame that PirateSoftware will make a complete strawman to defend games that don't have this. Team Fortress 2, Black Ops III (with t7patch), and Titanfall 2 were only playable on community servers for the longest time.
Ai bot support in custom games should also be a standard feature. It keeps these games alive forever and is a fallback in case stuff like these hacks and cheaters occur.

My most absolutely charitable interpretation is that they're willing to hurt other people's experience to get 343 to fix the MCC client's vulnerability to cheating, either because they are so focused on that and don't care about other people or they don't see any other way to get 343 to listen.

The biggest concern for me is someone compromising your computer. This has been done in the past with other games (like BO2). With the kernel level access EAC has, it's a very real threat (and I have no idea the last time 343 updated it). This is the reason I dual-boot. If nothing else, 343 should be held accountable for the massive security risk they've dropped on the community. Selling an abandoned game is criminal.
5:02 if they take this step, I'm pretty sure the MCC and Infinite community would be legally allowed to collectively sue Microsoft for millions, if not billions in damages for allowing hackers to destroy private property.
Really goes to show what a fire shitnado 343i released to the public. It’s truly pathetic. How many of those clowns at the top are still there? The Kiki wolfkills or that bald guy who went from a community team member at bungie to the creative writer lead… We’re not putting the right people into the positions and it’s been showing for a DECADE atp.
Only anti cheat to have ever banned me from a game for no discernable reason. Their appeal system is a formality. They don't fucking care. Only other anti cheat that ever banned me as a false positive was Battleye back in the DayZ mod days, and they promptly responded and did right by me. EAC hasn't even given me an automated response despite sending an appeal every month since October 7th, 2023. Battlebit Remastered was the game they stole my money with.
Kernel level anti cheat is just corporate spy ware to collect even more of your data. There is literally no reason for it to exist. Thankfully Microsoft is considering siloing programmes that have kernel access after crowd strike took down so many computers across the globe which would limit the effectiveness of these forms of anti cheat that don't even work anyway.
Just a reminder to the "PC caused this" comments that the MCC would still be a mess had the PC ports and the updates that accompanied them not been made.
Additionally, this doesn't stop cheaters from finding ways to exploit the Xbox One version of MCC. I remember the day the JTAG cheaters came to Xbox 360, and they'll absolutely not skip a beat to abuse the Xbox platform if they cannot just cheat on PC
This is why we needed a traditional server browser on MCC years ago when it first came to PC that allows plugins (Like Halo Custom Edition) so we can deal with this stuff ourselves. Been saying it all along, matchmaking on PC allows cheaters to get away with things for far longer than they should.
Server browsers don't exist anymore because game developers want you to buy their next game installment and stop playing their last game. This won't change so long as people keep playing games by developers and publishers who are only driven by profit. Eldewrito is being developed again but the moment it gains any traction again, Microsoft will do everything in their power to shut it down. User generated content and mods combined with being able to host your own game server without the need for a developers dedicated server is the opposite of profitable. It's all about control and being able to force the end of a games lifecycle in time for the next game release is intentional design.
@@Dean..... I know and yeah you are 100% bang on, gaming is just too corporate these days when in the past on PC it was generally a bunch of nerds pouring their passion into these projects to be as fun as possible and giving the tools to the players so they can get the most out of the games they've made. With all the negativity that has surrounded 343i for a decade plus, giving back to the community would go a long way toward building up relations and help give Halo a good name again, this is why I suggest they give us traditional servers, that alone would be a massive step in the right direction.

It's a game / dev sided issue, not solely EAC. This same thing happened in Apex Legends, albeit without the self banning thing. Its okay friend everything is temporary and we had a fun childhood playing video games compared to kids playing with sticks and cans to kick. It sucks what 343 has done but evil corporations are always going to prioritize making money over a fun game for the fans
That's the crazy thing ain't it? People always go "Omg why do you care so much" when they mess something up. But like... we were the fans originally. It's a franchise we loved. Guys like us are the reason other people know about it at all. So if they don't care about it then why do they care enough to change it?
Honestly that dude will say all the fixed 343 can do, one fixed they can do is have multiple companies at this, one company can't do all the things since they are under staff (that how it feels like), plus it will get us more halo games
It's obvious looking at the news updates on steam, 343 would rather farm ESG points with their "insert identity politics here" player emblems than actually sell a functional product.
Pretty much. There is grounds to sue for this because of the severity of hacks (that could get even worse) and the fact that this is now in part a non-functional product people paid money for. Even whatever jargon may be in the terms of use can't fathomly excuse them for this happening.
I doubt they even care honestly. If it stops people from playing MCC, the hope is to get them on Halo Infinite where they have their battlepass and store..
I decided against it since taking control of someone’s actual account is probably not something they would risk, but ngl my first thought was “what if these ‘hackers’ are hired by 343 to make MCC less desirable, so people play Infinite instead’ lol
@@scpgamer I really want to see the rest of the improvements they were working on, like cross-platform play, completed and released to us as well. I think the best chance of getting it now might be to port HALO 5 to PC (with cross-platform play, mod tools etc.) and have 343/Microsoft treat H5/MCC as a single product from a commercial perspective. In other words, H5 would become part of MCC from the point of view of having a single team of staff having to split their time between updates for both H5 and MCC). However, given the difficultly of actually putting H5 into MCC, H5 could technically be a separate executable and not part of MCC from that point of view.
Skill matching and all the missing playlists from classic Halo 2, 3 and Reach are what killed it for me. MCC was a downgrade over Custom Edition and Project Cartographer.
If the fine for hackers is in the millions and they can actually afford to pay it, I would assume developing hacking tools is profitable. Is it more profitable than income earned from an older game? If so the hackers they will win in the end. A game can only finance active development for so long, especially if people are more willing to pay to cheat. I have no idea just thinking out loud.
Counters: AimShit - Causes enemy hackers to snap aim and shoot at everything but your body. AntiWalls - No box or seeing you through walls, but shows all the other players behind them for the wall hacker, so the hacker ends up oblivious and confused. ReboundReport - Rebounds a hackers bullets off of your body and back into their head. Also sends 100,000 bot cheat reports through the banning system, and changes the other hackers killcam to a blatant cheating montage video from TH-cam. 100,000 more reports added after every single attempt/rebound kill.
So many games are like this. It's more rare to find a lobby without cheaters in EA Battlefront II right now (which also uses Easy Anti-Cheat). Last night I was top of the scoreboard, when suddenly every time I went to Respawn at Default spawn, or points A,B,C,D or E, my camera would be a view of the sky. I could only get around this by spawning on a squadmate. Other times, the hackers switch everyone's camera view to a slow pan through the map, or outright close the lobbies when they're losing.
They should make it so you automatically load into one of those servers or shuffling them around for variety for you, as an option at least. I personally hate browsing custom server lists, but that's just me.
As much as I hate defending 343, I think you hit on an interesting point Mint. 343 probably doesn’t have the resources to address these issues in MCC. And on top of that, I bet there’s a certain level of them not wanting to either. I work in software development and while it’s not in the video game industry, I do see it all the time where the older legacy apps just get harder and harder to support and eventually just get to the point where no one in the company thinks it’s worth the resource allocation it would take to fix. Sadly, I think that’s what’s happening to MCC here
Man, it’s crazy that they can do all that. You usually don’t hear about cheats to that level unless a game is very very old. They should 100% continue to do at least security support of MCC, as sooooo many people still play it.
I've come across them in the CGB every time I've played over the last few months, one of the players I banned in my own lobby kept returning with different profiles and even told me to stop banning them. The CGB is literally just a modified party system so all the downfalls of matchmaking still apply here, what we've always needed for MCC on PC is a traditional server system with plugin support like Halo Custom Edition had, that way we could manage our own system for dealing with these people.
@@Phantom_Aspekt I've had my frustrations with players abusing kick after host dips out and they get privileges, but these exploits are on a different level. Ouch. Yeah, our lack of options on this end add insult to injury. For all the outcry TF2 players have made over the bot crisis, community servers have been a thing in that game for most of its life and this kind of vulnerability is unthinkable. I've probably put more hours into Halo than any other game except maybe various Pokemon saves + fan games + battle sim time, and it's downright depressing to see this happen.
@thelouster5815 Didn't clip it, as I didn't think of it at the time. It happened on Xbox, which is double bollocks that a PC player would cause me grief like that.
Any chance we could get a mass-class action lawsuit going against Microsoft/343? It's definitely been more unplayable for me the last few weeks, and I pay only $17/month, but feel like I get cheated out of my monthly value by getting kicked/cheated on. I'd guess thousands of players would feel the same way, and would be onboard with a class action lawsuit to settle this.
At this point, we literally need to consult the Halo Community Yellow Pages to find the smart lawyer around who knows how to properly draft a bill for the U.S. Congress to ratify that would outlaw the use of cheats in player vs. player arenas in video games and the production of cheats for player vs. player arenas in video games.
Mmm, maybe a Class Action lawsuit would be better, with an Eye towards actual jail time due to this being massive prosecutable Fraud. Add that it has many people involved and this turns into a RICO Act level Offense by Microsoft, 343 and others.

While I don’t totally think it will happen, I sort of feel this stuff is just going to get MCC delisted by Microsoft, or have its multiplayer functions wiped. I would love for them to give MCC some TLC, but it just doesn’t look like it’s going to happen.
File a law suit. MS and 343 enables all this. They are not protecting the customer. Customers are being punished. Ppl need to hold others accountable and that’s not just the hackers.
Thankfully I have not encountered cheating except for once. But I really hope this issue gets resolved. I want to stream Halo! If cheating/ banning starts happening too much I'm not gonna do it
Do it, breh. Get the pizza and bread sticks for the guests, too! And, support local pizza chains, not big corporate ones like Dominos, Pizza Hut, or Papa John's. Buy from a smaller pizza restaurant, it'll taste better anyway.
I wouldnt be surprised if this evolves into a massive security issue where hackers can take account information and take people's debit/credit card information. If so, M$ must get on the ball as it would cost them so much more than development time fixing it.
Ah EAC, the worst anti cheat on the market and yet the most used, really weird why that’s the combo. Hackers cracked the thing ages ago, hell I see EAC screw with regular players more than hackers. And it’s not like 343 or MS care about, well, anything, least of all their community
By the way, most of this stuff isn't possible with the Editing Kits, especially at run-time in an official matchmaking lobby. The hackers/script kiddies are using some form of cheat engine.
This is why I don’t play multiplayer on PC. People cheating in online games is just sad. Sea of Thieves and Halo MCC both have cheating problems on PC, and those are the main games I play when I play online. So I stick to Xbox with no cross-play.
I'm glad 343 is at least acknowledging that there is an issue and is able to force Microsoft's hand, but this was always going to be the eventual reality when development on MCC stopped a year ago because the Halo community lost their minds at the thought of adding some monetization to prove the justification of continued development.
I'm just wondering why everything needs to be actively developed 7+ years after release. How did we reach the point where we're expected to not just be complacent with, but celebrate the games we paid for being made into something different from what we paid for years ago, then accept the cease of functionality when servers shutter, ignore the scam, and consume new product in the cycle anew.
@@IaeyanElyuex there's not really any proof of you saying that other games are finally updated after 7+ years after release, but with MCC's case there was Halo 5 which forced 343 to drop MCC.

I've not played MCC multiplayer at all, but i don't remember any of this kinda shit happening when I placed halo CE PC servers back in the day (2010-12) so its kinda sad to see this happeneing.
I never saw any malicious hacks in all my time on the Halo: CE PC servers either, which is kind of crazy to think about. Most hacks I saw were just hacked servers that were made purely for fun. Good times though. I miss goofy stuff like flamethrower wars and Warthog only demolition derbies on Blood Gulch.
this is also happening on Destiny 2 STILL even after they brought on Battle eye. People are still circumventing it and ruining PVP, especially in Trials of Osiris.
This is exactly why Halo or the MCC in particular should of never been brought to PC for the multiplayer especially with crossplay. It should of stayed xbox exclusive. Doesn't get rid of all the cheaters, but it would of done a lot to keep it alive, once PC gets involved there's cheaters in every lobby on any and every game. Halo was meant for xbox and controller players too and yet nobody wants to bring that up either. Or the fact that people will intentionally TK you for the power weapons you already picked up. Along with constant 4+ man stacked teams when you're playing solo. I played Halo 2 when I was a kid doing splitscreen matches with the whole family, sadly those happy days on that masterpiece of a game are long gone.
At this point I think 343 is concerned about making money without doing a lot of work and stopped caring on optimization. Halo is dying and there seems to be not much we can do besides watching it burn

The pros of being an console only game = no cheating skill less pc players
This is why every multiplayer game needs community-run servers. They are (mostly) safe havens from the rampant cheating that goes on in matchmaking because it's at the admins' discretion who can or can't play on them, rather than having to rely on an automated and circumventable system.
Shame that PirateSoftware will make a complete strawman to defend games that don't have this. Team Fortress 2, Black Ops III (with t7patch), and Titanfall 2 were only playable on community servers for the longest time.
I mean there sort of is via custom games browser. The host can kick players out
Ai bot support in custom games should also be a standard feature. It keeps these games alive forever and is a fallback in case stuff like these hacks and cheaters occur.

Cheating on any games is pathetic, but cheating on games from 2001 to 2012, that old of games, is just fucking as sad as it gets.
I will NEVER understand why cheaters cheat. Like, even if you’re bad without them, there’s always room for improvement! And improving yourself and your abilities actually feels good!
Why even bother when you’re not even playing the game?!?

@@rorykeefe8954 You probably shouldn't assume that cheaters have functioning empathy for others. A better assumption is that they are sociopaths and narcissists who take pleasure in the rage of others and feel powerful when they are affecting someone negatively, or that they are so focused on hurting 343 that they don't care about who else they hurt as long as they get what they want (which is likely the case for the TF2 botters, who were mad about the hats economy).

Is it Microsoft they go after? They'll lawyer up and stop that from happening

Easy Anti-Cheat is so bad. Idk why companies use them, they are just as bad as punkbuster
Because it's free or cheap as free. Word of advice. If your software is cheap or free, the product is *YOU.*
Really put the "Easy" in cheating
343 better send a cease-and-desist letter to the cheat hosts. That should prevent them from updating their cheats when they are patched.
Maybe with a demand as big as absurd it sounds depending on the age of the site and go one after another

EAC is stupid. It's good at banning innocent people but bad at preventing cheating.
@MintyLime703 my friend had to completely reinstall EAC the other day because every game would crash
Almost like kernel level anti-cheat isn't a good idea or something...
It's a game / dev sided issue, not solely EAC.
This same thing happened in Apex Legends, albeit without the self banning thing. A hacker gave cheats to pro players during an official Apex tournament remotely. Both MCC and Apex just have lousy, reactive devs.

I care a shit load about Halo. It's literally what helped mold most of my cherished childhood memories. That's what hurts the most I suppose... 343 has pretty much gone backwards with mostly everything. 😞 so much potential
Its okay friend everything is temporary and we had a fun childhood playing video games compared to kids playing with sticks and cans to kick. It sucks what 343 has done but evil corporations are always going to prioritize making money over a fun game for the fans
Just like with Star Wars, they went out of their way to make an intentionally bad product
Everything that’s happening right now is intentional
That's the crazy thing ain't it? People always go "Omg why do you care so much" when they mess something up. But like... we were the fans originally. It's a franchise we loved. Getting piratesoftware's eyes on this is a fantastic idea.
Honestly that dude will say all the fixed 343 can do, one fixed they can do is have multiple companies at this, one company can't do all the things since they are under staff (that how it feels like), plus it will get us more halo games
This reminds me of Arby and the Chief
It's obvious looking at the news updates on steam, 343 would rather farm ESG points with their "insert identity politics here" player emblems than actually sell a functional product.
343/MS won't do anything until they get sued.

Halo needs the same treatment that the Titan fall 2 community gave with North Star. Halo needs a custom server browser.

Ouch.

this is also happening on Destiny 2 STILL even after they brought on Battle eye.
