I sense Morris didnt know how great he was and how many people loved him. Ernest T. in the scene where he gets kicked out of the army is amazing. The epitome of creativity. Completely uninhibited. He creates this fantastic character for the ages.
This is true. Howard Morris gravestone: was this guy great or what?- It reads at the top: "It's me, It's me! It's Ernest T.!" How many gravestones make you laugh with delight. Howie Morris never dies.
Thank you very much for posting this. I looked up his tomb on Find-A-Grave and saw the "It's me, it's me" inscription. It makes me feel good to know that Mr. Morris thought enough of we fans to do this. Nice to know that we fans of the show were loved in return by kind and gracious people like Betty Lynn, Howard Morris and others.
I love how Ramona Wiley fell for Ernest T at that fancy party. A wonderful scene when he keeps picking up Ramona and she keeps giggling like mad. I love it!
I just finished that episode, which brought me here. I thought he was in way more episodes, I think of the Andy Griffith Show and he comes to mind. What a great character. I was shocked to learn he is from the Bronx.
Andy was a wonderful character, Barney and Ernest T were the most memorable characters in television. And, not only did Ernest T become so visible memorable, his character voice was one of a kind.
I realized that as I watched this interview I was smiling big. I am lucky and very happy I saw Howard perform. He made me laugh, and in a good way. He gives me hope for humanity.
And for the record, in the first Andy Griffith Show he appeared in, he was taken out deep into the woods with Barney to bother a 'relaxing' Sheriff Andy. And as a TV Repairman.
Genius of comedy and voices and acting. He could do proper British, Brooklyn, hillbilly, anything. His voice work on The Flintstones show alone is amazing, from Weirdly Gruesome to airport announcers to little boys to an old lady. Mr. Morris was a real entertainment legend, unsung to most; a talented writer, performer, director, and more.
Damn good thing he wasn’t recently in Pittsburgh. Did he say sword play or fore play? Excellent interview except for those who hate Jews and justify hate. Mainly republican Protestant wasp assholes.

This man is incredible !! Howard Morris,....Earnest T Bass? He was even born in my home town, Bronx New York. I am just finding this out not even 5 minutes ago. Wow. Earnest T Bass was always hilarious...
I remember being a little kid and whenever Howie was appearing on a tv show whether it be Thriller, Andy Griffith Show or Danny Kaye etc. The whole family would sit down and watch. Extremely talented man. One of the very few that defined early television. We are so thankful to have had him in our living rooms.
An exceptional character actor, above and beyond! I saw him in a supporting part in a tour of "South Pacific" in the early 50s when I was a small child and I became a life-long fan.
Howdy do to you & you it's me it's me it's Ernest T !!! He was a nut & a great one !!! Still have a VHS tape containing the four main episodes he played on the Andy Griffith Show & never get tired of watching them !!! R.I.P. Ernest T !!!

Howard Morris is best remembered for his character on the Andy Griffith show and also one of the writers on the 1950s your show of shows which shows what a talented man he was but to understand his greatness, you people must see his film who's minding the mint made in 1967. This is a comedy film in the classic tradition. It stars basically an all t v cast. Can you imagine bob Denver as a sex symbol? Howard directed this forgotten masterpiece . A truly great comedy which needs to be rediscovered, I speak from the heart on this one.
If memory serves, "Who's Minding The Mint?" also starred Jim Hutton (who died very young) and Miss Dorothy Provine. Ms. Provine was best known as perhaps the one truly levelheaded Character in "It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World." Oddly enough among other screwball Comic talents in The Movie was Howard Morris's old friend Sid Caesar!😂🎤📺🎥B.W.
For all of his background, it's a curious thing that he got into doing cartoon voices for Hanna-Barbera starting in 1962, but stopped after an alleged falling out with Joe Barbera in 1965 or '66.
I'm glad so many remember and appreciate him as, say, Earnest T. Bass. But that's just the tip of the iceberg, especially when re-reviewing so many of those Sid Caesar shows! Talk about versatile, committed etc etc...er, and, er, HILARIOUS! ;-)
I laughed over him when he was on, "The Show of Shows," and I was a little girl and he kept on making me laugh through all his bits on "The Andy Griffith Show," and "The Nutty Professor," and many other hilarious moments. The best!
My personal favorite of his various characters was Mr. Holdeker on the Dick van Dyke Show, "The Masterpiece." He absolutely nailed the German art expert character - very funny!
I actually heard of him through a Twilight Zone episode. I looked up his bio,and saw he was an accomplished actor, cartoon voices, director, producer. Just an amazing man. I read also he did some of the voices of the McDonald's characters. Wow!
I always loved the AG show. I loved all the characters of the show. But honestly, the one that always and still does make me laugh the hardest is Ernest T Bass!!! Howard Morris was a genius! And I too wish that the AG show had more episodes with the Ernest T Bass character than they did....He was Soo phucking funny!!!!!
In my opinion, and probably many many others, "Your Show of Shows " was "the" best show, in its entirety, ever created and performed. I wish, and I'm young, I wish there was a show that equaled it's talent in performers and writers. Even though TV had just relatively begun, I think it reached its apex when this show was on.
"Show of Shows" could not be done today. 3/1?/2020. It was live and most entertainers really can't do live without crude language and skimpy costumes. We have to be able to edit out the trash. We don't eat garbage why listen to it. 💥💥
Actually it's easy to replicate. Go and find four superversatile Seriocomic future greats on the level of Sid Caesar, Imogene Coca, Howard Morris, and Carl Reiner. Then give them precision timed Comic dialogue written by emergent Wordsmiths like Woody Allen, Larry Gelbart, and Neil Simon. Above all else no sinking to the depths of easy crassness (at least not on air). After that it's a lead pipe cinch.😏😂🎤⌨📺B.W.

he's best known for his role as Ernest T. Bass on Andy Griffith and his voice work at Hanna-Barbera from 1962-66 (Jet Screamer, Montique Jetson (Jetsons), Mr. Peebles (Magilla Gorilla), Breezly Bruin (Peter Potamus), Atom Ant, White Rabbit (Alice in Wonderland) etc...), but by 1966, he left following a disagreement with Joe Barbera and most of his roles were taken over by Don Messick.
He was also the voice of Jughead Jones in Filmation's Archie and Sabrina cartoons between the late 60's and early 70's. And he was SUCH a laugh riot in both, too, WAY better than the CW Network's Riverdale (which is the Archies crossed with 90210 and the X-Files 👎👎👎👎). But anyway, I had no idea he had a fallout with Joe Barbera, guess that explains his absence from Hanna-Barbera during the 70's.
He looks a lot like Russell Johnson, The professor on Gilligan's Island. Howard Morris cartoon voice actor of Adam Ant, Magilla Gorilla's Mr. Peebles, Weirdly Gruesome on the Flintstones, Wade Duck on Garfield and Friends, many additional voices on the Flintstones & The Jetsons as well as The Andy Griffith Show as Ernest T. Watch Boris Karloff "Lethal Lady". He plays in two vignettes. Two separate characters; marvelous performances.
