Top notch work 👍. The main problem with these Mantas is that for many years there was no availability of repair and replacement panels - so bodges like we see here were common place. This was a typical ' Bodyshop' resto from 25 years ago - horrid, but it probably saved the car from death back in the day.

When I watch this I wonder how much money have the previous repairers spent on filler, not to mention all the time it must have taken to sculpt it in to the shape of a car! Great work as usual.

    • @boldford

At least this time the vast majority of the money spent has been on putting metallic structure back into what I consider to be a lovely sculptured shape car.

Had a fair few motors like this. Top tip is to take a handful of varied-strength magnets with you when viewing - quite amusing to see the look on the vendor's face when you tell them where the filler is, how deep it is, and what the car's really worth because of that bodge. If you want to avoid the dust, a heat gun works well. Once warmed up it's easy to shave off.

Some people say when the cost of hiring someone for the repairs exceeds the sales price of comparable cars in good shape. Others say when the cost of parts exceeds the price of a decent car. If you DIY all the metal the limit might be not being able to finish the car within a lifetime. All a matter of definition. If someone else's parts car is in better shape than the one you're trying to fix it might be worth doing the parts car instead. If a vintage car is unique or extremely rare, the sky is the limit.

At least the semi-tack welded/hack'n pack job you uncovered was sealed up pretty good, I'm guessing the last guy didn't get paid to do it 100% but he definitely did what he could for the customer, very rare, could have been far worse.

Another lesson in how to do it. The person that did the original repair should be taken to task for the complete botch done to thr car. Mantas were of their generation and the big bucks were spent on the engine. Nobody around that time cared to much about the rust side of things. How do i know about these things "coz i was there."
