    A Herb chopper is a simple but functional kitchen tool for cutting herbs and small vegetables. This forged herb chopper is a fairly classic blacksmithing approach.

    It wont be a boring video John. All your videos are very educational and helpful. Even for seasoned smiths. Sure I use power tools, simply because I have them and know how to use them. But using hand tools is a good skill to have and also helps when switching to power tools later. ( if that’s ones plan). Using a belt grinder or power hammer/press can really get out of control and ruin your work if you aren’t careful. So doing everything by hand first is the way to go.

    Most of my favorite TH-cam forge artists have taught me something or another when they showed their grinding techniques. I would greatly appreciate seeing some of your style and technique, especially since not many of the forms and such that I have seen so far work fully for me. On top of that you have a very profound way of saying and showing things that connects with me (I don't want to talk for others) and makes it so that I can learn far more from your videos then from most of the other forging channels that I watch.

    I started to make one of these as my first project. I made some mistakes and learned a lot so far. Working out the handle is taking some time for me, and I ended up breaking it off. I think I can still fix it.
    I am using a 2.5lb hammer. The metal didn't move nearly as easy as yours is here. I imagine some of my difficulty is learning hammer technique. But I'm still excited. Your video helped a lot. Would you be able to talk more about drawing that handle out? The hammer technique behind it?

    Hey John! I dont know why you feel it would be a boring video if you use files instead of the belt grinder, or filing and grinding in general. I, personally, think you could show a little more of that than you normally do. One can learn lot by just watching, even if it's supposedly simple and boring tasks.

    I have a question that someone may be able to answer. I have several 24" circular saw blades that are 1/4" thick. I thought about stacking several pieces together and making a guillotine tool body out of some of the steel. My question is, would it be possible to forge weld the layers together in my coal forge or would rivets be strong enough to hold several layers together?

    • @georgem7965
      @georgem7965 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jason, yes, you could forge weld the layers together to make a heavier/thicker piece. However, experiment with some smaller pieces first since you never quite know the properties of a piece of scrap steel like a saw blade. sometimes they are weird alloys which do odd things. Also, do not try to make too large a weld at one time.
      Rivets might be strong enough too. Even bolts might work.

    • @Jason-jd1jv
      @Jason-jd1jv 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@georgem7965 Thanks for the reply. I have about half a dozen of these large blades which is over a hundred lbs of steel to play with. Not sure what to do with them but I didn't want to turn down such a generous gift. From what I've read there is a possibility that the main body of the blade is mild steel or medium carbon steel with carbide teeth. I'm just thinking of ways to use it that don't need to be hardened but such wide and thin material is kind of limiting.

    Man I love how I pay for youtube premium so that I dont have to see ads... Now every youtuber just puts their own ads in from sponsors. Im about to uninstall TH-cam. This is as bad as my employer from the flowershop I just quit not paying me for overtime. Whats that called stealing :/
